Following the armies departing for Ithania to quell the rebellion, the Emperor hosted a Defilee at the Imperial Palace, inviting the collective nobility, foreign dignitaries as well as vassalized lords and other people of importance. The Imperial Palace was positively packed to the brim with the cream of the crop of the upper classes of Aloria. Kings and Queens wandered the halls with Ambassadors and Princes, even representatives of the Qadir Sultanate and Elven Kingdoms were present. The Emperor had started an initiative of world wide order, and all states were one way or another involved in discussing the fine lines of it all. The opening of the Defilee was spectacular, a fireworks display with over three thousand rockets, seen far and wide across the city. The entire Imperial District including the bridge had been closed to the citizens of Regalia, creating a single highly controlled security island where the Viridian Order and Imperial Guard controlled the streets and the Palace respectively. Every precaution had been taken to ensure the safety of the guests and the Imperial Family. The Emperor’s direct family who were not sent to war were present at the throne room where the Emperor was to receive gifts from the dignitaries.

From the Qadir representatives, the Emperor was handed a fine hand crafted set of silverware. Contrary to tradition, the Emperor did not wear his gloves so as not to offend the gift givers, even if his Imperial Guards had advised him otherwise. Gifts were furthermore received from the Ithanian Lobby, the Calemberg Lobby, the Sancella of Union, the Viridian Order, The Arlora Kingdom, the Elven dignitaries, Dwarven ambassadors, Allar Alchemicars, Vultaro Syndics, Daendroque Princes, Colonial Lords, Ch’ien-ji Monks, The Iron Bulwark, the White Order, the Court of Scholars, the Caliphene Republic, the Dorinn Republic, the Violet Order and the Imperial Family. The Emperor personally received them all and then deposited them on the long table next to him.

The festivities were well on their way, the Emperor mingled with the guests and for once the Imperial halls were filled with laughter and joy as all these dignitaries and races were somehow able to get along this particular evening, even if they had a long history of killing each other in past centuries. Entertainers came and went as fine wines and food was dispensed in opulence. Gifts were also returned onto the emissaries and guests, a fine display of an orchestra and a grand ball. The Emperor again against better judgement shook hands with most foreign heads of state so as not to offend them and to create a better understanding of one another. It made all the Imperial Guards nervous, but the Emperor’s desire was law and he had dictated it should happen. And yet, the Imperial Guard's nervousness was right.

At first the coughing went very unnoticed. The laughter and talking in the rest of the Throne room which doubled as a ballroom drowned out any sound from any individual as the string quartet played ever higher tones. The clanking of silverware on the dining plates as the guests were eating was quickly interrupted by shouts from the back end of the throne room, Imperial Guards were sprinting through the Throne room in their heavy armor, interrupting even the strings quartet. Suddenly a shrill shriek echoed through the Throne room, Empress-Queen consort Juliana de Lobo walked around like a madwoman speaking vile words in her native tongue that none could understand. Her eyes were wide open, almost ready to pop from their sockets while she held a handkerchief covered in blood. The whole room fell quiet as people from the adjacent rooms walked in to see what the commotion was about. Then the Empress-Queen looked at the crowd and pointed at them with a shaky finger while shrieking: “You’re all after my beauty!” Her face turned red and she ran to one of her servants who was holding her head cage, the ornamental piece the Emperor had convinced her to take off for this occasion. When the Empress-Queen cleared the stage, it became apparent that the blood on her handkerchief wasn’t hers, but the Emperor’s. The Emperor was supported by a few Imperial Guards, violently convulsing as doctors and other Imperial staff rushed onto the stage to figure out what was going on. The entire situation was chaotic, the servants had no idea what was going on and meanwhile hundreds of assembled guests were gaping at the scene in silence.

The Emperor then collapsed, foaming from the mouth as the doctors tried to tear the various corsets and linen clothing from the Emperor. A group of doctors rushed onto the stage with a crate of bottles and concoctions, desperately trying to administer a variety of them to the Emperor who was now tearing blood from his eyes. More rows of Imperial guards raced into the ballroom, forming a wall between the stage and the actual ballroom where the guests were still completely frozen in motion, some ladies of the court even having their spoons halfway to their mouth, trembling and shaking the fine jelly on top. The composure of the Imperial Guard was quickly disrupted by an explosion on the gifts table, and a fiery blaze consuming the entire table and all objects on it. Some of them broke line and rushed to the table to douse the flames as servants rushed forward with flasks of water. Eventually the bells of the Imperial Palace were rung calling all guests away from the ballroom, where the Imperial Guard quickly rushed them out of the throne room.

The news of the Emperor’s condition was well suppressed first, but the news came out quickly that he had been poisoned with an unknown substance, and while he had not died, he was now in a comatose state from which he did not wake. Doctors continued to try and awaken the Emperor to no avail, so emergency protocols were activated across the Empire for exactly such a situation. Full executive authority was granted to the State Council and the Arch-Chancellor was elevated to directive ruler of the Empire in absence of the Emperor. Martial law was imposed onto the Regalian City and most if not all dignitaries and ambassadors were detained to the Imperial Palace, if not in comfort, still a prison now. Normally when the Emperor would be poisoned, the Crown-Prince would succeed, however since the Emperor had not died, the State could not force him to abdicate in his unconscious state. As such, the inheritance could not be executed while the Emperor yet lived, and the State Council of Lords now enjoyed full control over the Empire without the Emperor looming over them and approving their decisions.

This political power vacuum caused immediate shifts all over various segments of political and non-political society. In the days to come it would become more apparent what would happen, as nobody could predict how the various noble families would react, who would try to seize power, and who would try to maintain the status quo. Then there was also the issue of the poisoning of the Emperor. It was assumed one of the gifts was laced with some form of poison as the Emperor’s food and drinks were tested by his servants, yet nothing but ash and splinters remained of the table as it had completely burned down with all gifts on it. Time would tell who would take up the case of investigating the attack, attempting to discover who was behind it all.

    OOC notes
    • All events in this post are common knowledge.
    • A set of two month only Player quests will be available soon in which everyone (any race, social class, gender, whatever) can investigate various parts of the case to discover clues. Obviously only higher nobility can investigate the Palace itself, but there will also be case leads in the Sewers and poor district where only commoners can go.
    • The War posts are put on a backlog for now until there is something “to play around with” for all players, instead of just the nobility.
    • All noble characters may roleplay on this post pretending they were there (even the ones sent off to war). By reason, all nobility of Regalia were invited.
    • All Imperial Guard/Viridian Order Knights may roleplay on this post pretending they were there with the Emperor on the stage and witnessed it first hand, they were assigned as guards.

Charlotte was just sitting at the side of the table, eating her meal when she heard the shouts. Her mind, fogged by the upcoming Barlowe ball, was not prepared for this. And then the explosion sending her anthem flying across the room, landing on a nearby paper no more than a charred piece of parchment.

She started gasping for air, slowly rising from the chair.

With the imperial guard swirling about, she darted towards the gathered nobility, getting as far away as possible from the crowd. She won't pee herself this time though, she won't.

But the worse news came soon enough. Andrieu Anahera as full-powered Emperor. Oh dear.

Anton found himself caught up, in the sudden frantic rushing of guardsmen, and nobility alike. Standing from his chair, his was knocked into by the full force of a plump Ithanian Baroness, discovering he was now seated upon the table in bewilderment. The Duke marched his way forward through the rushing crowds, eventualy gaining a glimpse of what had just unfolded with gritted teeth. the sight only furthering his newly arising belief. His only wish, that more around him would see as he did.

I was invited, I attended, It all start well, the grand fireworks, the dignitaries from all corners of our Aloria. It seemed a fine time to mingle and make friends and allies, but also fine time to cause a scene, though I kept that at the back of my head. No-one ever could do such a thing, how would they anyway?

Well, I guess they did, and while I pranced around and drunk with Daendroquin Princes and briefly conversing with the old fart, Duke Rosales ,the scene would freeze, all of the most important men in Aloria gawping in fear at the sight of our Emperor being hauled by a platoon of Imperial Guards. It would all descend into chaos as the gift table burned and the Guards holding the foreign dignitaries by force, whilst the Higher Nobility all evacuated. I'd place a supportive hand on the dying Duke Rosales to help him out and ponder upon the new opportunities this unfortunate accident has brought.

The Allar Alchemicars had served as a well founded reminder to the ever vigilant and equally famished budding Alchemist, Philip Kade, that everything, and anything touchable, or consumable, could in fact have been a warrant to their deaths. They were surrounded by enemies of the State, with each race holding a well sewn grudge against the other they now stood, mingled, danced and ate beside.

Seated so closely to the Emperor himself, the young Kade could only have restrained his sister from participating in the festivities for so long, allowing her a selection of the sweet custards at the least. It was when the first sign of trouble struck did Philip snatch Astrid's spoon straight out of her grip, tossing it to the floor. A state of misplaced completion once more filled the relieved young man as the Emperor collapsed - it had happened. Tragedy had struck, finally. Just as Astrid had predicted. Philip made haste to take key note of the Emperor's state, advantaged by his seating - the lack of gloves, the foam, and the blood. All the blood. With a confident nod he glanced over to the table of gifts - surely all could be solved with a little deduction and investigation.

It struck Philip almost like an backhand then as the table he watched with such smugness burst open into violent flames, incinerating not only the majority of evidence left behind, but along with it the remainder of Philip's hope. Quickly the Kade composed himself - no this would not be the end of this tale. He had faith in the Alchemists of the state in regards to healing the Emperor, even against the long retained skills of any Allar. Philip knew, however, that if nothing else, whilst the masses flocked to their Cathedrals, threading prayers of good health and salvation, he would be all too occupied carving himself a piece of glory by solving this mystery.

"Alchemy is the future of Regalia.." He mumbled to himself, watching as the Emperor was stripped and diagnosed. It was Philip's most repeated of phrases, spoken with such certainty. How quickly his faithful optimism had been twisted into a sick irony had left a dry smile on his lips. Offering three soft, gloved claps, Philip pried his sister away from the simmered scene.

"Come, Astrid dearest. We've an archive to visit and much work to be done.~"

Dangit, the only relatively good (By modern standards) emperor in years, and he's poisoned. This is why the Regalian Empire can't have good things.

Nero Valor sat with a drink in his hand, sipping it before glancing at the collapsing Emperor. He stood, rushing over to assist his Emperor, yet was shoved back by the Imperial Guards, falling abruptly to the floor. He rose, however shocked, remained calm, and returned back, giving a long, frustrated gasp, looking over at his niece and family members with distraught. ((They all showed the same expression. GG ANDRIEU U WIN.))
