When Family Lies

John Claudio sighed while he was riding to his childhood home in Anglia. It was a small fort, something only the rich could afford, just as his father had been. He had been long awaiting the visit with the Claudios, yet, he could not find them wherever he may go.

The repetitiveness of the horses footsteps were starting to annoy John, especially on this humid August morning. His trusty Crysteel blade was sheathed on the side of the horse, just incase some unlucky bandit decided to pick on the Viridian. He could see it in the distance, as well as the massive farmlands that surrounded it. He payed local farmers to take care of the fort in exchange for fertile farming ground, a rather successful business for the Viridian seeing he gets a portion of their profit as well.

He made it to the fort, it had not high walls or anything of the sort but it did have very thick stone walls that would easily discouraged attackers. But no one wanted to attack and abandoned fortress, especially a Viridian's abandoned fortress. He would put his horse in the fort stables, still kept nice and tidy with oats and water all ready, as part of the farmers jobs. He unsheathed the blade from the horse, readying it incase some brave squatter might try to attack him.

But that did not happen. He checked every room just in case, but their was no one. He proceeded to his fathers room and stopped.

"If I ever see you step foot in the room, I'll make you eat horse dung for the rest of your life boy!"

His father once screamed at him when he attempted to go into the room. But now his father was to occupied being dead to care if he entered the room or not. And he did.
A great level of satisfaction came the Viridian as he entered the room. A massive portrait of his father in Viridian armor hung above a desk. Other than that there wasn't much besides a long hammock strung between the walls.
He walked over to his father's desk, he was curious what was in the files seeing he had never seen his father so much as pick up a pen before. The first cabinet he opened on his father's desk surprised him. All that sat there was a letter, addressed to him. But it didn't look like any handwriting his father could accomplish, it was much neater. Enticed, he opened it and began to read the beautiful cursive.

To John,
I'm sorry it had to come to you this way but you're the product of an affair I had with your father. I trust Hrothulf very deeply and love him, yet, I cannot stay with him because I already have two other children I need to care for. It's not that I'm picking favorites, it's I'm scared of being disowned by the family. I can't bear not seeing my first two children again and I regret ever having to leave you, but if they found out I would surely face harsh punishment. I assume Hrothulf has lead you in a fine path of being a Viridian or some other Knight School and I hope only success for you in the future. I love you though I don't know you and I am truly sorry that I'm so selfish. Please understand.

Love, Eolora Artemius, Your Mother

John looked at the letter with a mixture of shock and rage. Due to the condition of the parchment it was obviously very old. And his father had kept it a secret from him. He drew his longsword and cut a slash through the painting of his father, knocking the portrait down as kicked the desk over in utter rage. He stormed out to the stables, keeping the parchment in his pocket.
He saddled and mounted his horse, riding full speed to the docks. He no longer cared of the Claudio's affairs, he needed to get back to Regalia and do what every warrior dreaded. Study confusing timelines.
