(Just been notified this is currently disabled rn but before you make it a thing again...) So since this was implemented, identifying new players has never been easier. However, someone made the decision to reward players with Regals if they welcomed said user. This has resulted in a large amount of spam. The intention for the feature was so that recruiting factions could easily spot and message new players and offer them a helping hand in a strange place. Instead people are spamming for the money. Move the "New user has joined" Message into Recruitment chat and make R: the default place new users can talk. People need to be subscribed to R: Chat to see if a new user has joined and there should be NO REWARD system for saying welcome or messaging them. I want the people who message them to be genuinely interested in increasing their faction's player count and helping new people. Massive has had other methods of supporting it's members financially in the past, come up with something else.
Yes, something that was a great idea for recruitment turned into a hollow money making scheme. I've seen so many people login, get weirded out, and leave. I was lucky enough to talk one out of it and he stayed, but with the regal reward its actually counter-productive.
The money reward has been lowering for a while now, going from 10 to 5 to now 4. I don't see the welcome message being solely a Factions recruitment perk, but moreso to make MassiveCraft as a whole more friendly to new players. The last server I played on did this, and I stayed there for years purely because of that first second feel good message. I like seeing the announcement that new players join because it helps me know that there is new blood coming in to replace the old guard that is phasing out and moving on with life. A minute of inconvenience is little compared to the few hours or years a new player could make in the future. As for the reward, yeah I welcome players for the money. It's free money and anyone abstaining for that reason alone is losing out. But as the money has dropped, I still welcome players the same because of the reasons stated above. As for spam, just leave general for like a minute or two. TL;DR, the welcome announcement is more than faction recruitment tools, and money is on the way out anyways.
I Come on every once in a while and when someone new joins it spams 5-15 with "Welcome" please end this annoyance

No money is made anymore, and a minor spam in general chat is better than alienating new players. Whatever Massive has right now is fine. Welcome folks, help em out.
