Hello, I am going to preface this as while I am new to the server I have been watching things for a while through my friends who play here. With the server being essentially restarted there exists a niche opportunity to blend survival and role play into a hybrid system which does focus primarily on the role play side, but also has inherent survival implementation. Allow me to elaborate on this.
Crisis of Kings attempted to mix in role play and survival with application to the nobility system as well as pure lore building in general as I recall there being an ability to gain points for Crisis of Kings via lore stories. Forgive my ignorance on that subject as this my first time venturing into the forums by myself.
With the survival worlds being on an equal playing field this means there is little excuse to not have some role play interactions there. Enter my proposal for a Warlord System.
How it would function is a hybrid between noble role play, crime role play, and survival/factions role play. Noble in a sense that there should be a high expectation as to the quality of what is dealt. Aggressive politics and what I believe MonMarty referred to as 'contra roleplay' where those who breed conflict reap the rewards.
Crime roleplay is introduced in how the Rat Court system has various different groups competing for the title of Rat King as in for this Warlord system I envision a high figure. The prize for winning. The survival aspect is based on the simple fact that Warlords raid and while you can do combat in a role play formula it becomes too buggy when put on a larger scale, especially for the purposes of having combat be a focal point for a system.
The above may be hard to follow, but this is mostly a spitball so it can be taken apart by others for questioning, additions, etc. so now allow me to explain the system in the smallest way I can.
In the old times of the Ailor people, Warlords ruled over the masses. The strongest had the power and those who raged war the best was the champion of all under him. No town or village dared draw the ire of the Warlord, joining his cause out of fear of being raided and wiped into oblivion. Enter the dawn of the Regalian Empire. As years pass, the Warlords lose influence, nobility and the Emperor decide the power as the old systems of raid and pillage fall into the past. However, what if these practices were never lost but simply adapted?
Warlords still exist as the highest levels of mercenaries. They are as powerful as they are few, only dotting small areas of the Heartland of the Empire. How the system functions would be having a Warlord gather a group of people under him. Say five to ten. They engage in aggressive role play, playing an antagonizing role to counteract the shrewd politics they live inside of. Have them engage in PVP skirmishes in the survival worlds to gain points and power. They may form factions and raid other factions to gain points as well. The idea is that power is gained through actual combat as well as role play.
I don't have a firm idea on how this would all play, but given time I hope to draft up a rough system for this. Have a look and comments are appreciated.
