Backstory:
Vivienne landed in the precariously landscaped garden of the elderly couple Willem and Cynthia Woodward. They had lived near the outskirts of a small village. In their youth, Willem and Cynthia were unable to bear children. When the asteroid fell into their garden, they saw it as a gift from Orion. While Willem and Cynthia accepted Vivianne without hesitation, the town's sentiment differed. Rumors about the Woodward household spread like wildfire. Some people thought the couple had made a deal with some demon, while others believed dark magic was at play. These rumors worsened with the development of Vivienne's magical capabilities.
Vivienne's magic came to her much like growth spurts. A surge of arcane energy would wash over her. Magical outbursts would occur during the most mundane tasks, like sweeping or doing the laundry. However, any attempt to channel the energy was fruitless. This aggravated Vivienne to no end. She was afraid of the power she had, and angry that she couldn't control it. Willem, sensing Vivienne's anger, started teaching her how to garden. Their garden spanned many Vivienne had no idea how gardening could correlate to her magical ability, but she obliged. Willem showed her the ins and outs of gardening. He compared Vivienne's magic to a rose bush. Each root, leaf, and stem of the bush worked to create a budding flower. If treated recklessly, someone could prick their fingers on a rose thorn. But those who tended to the rose bush carefully were rewarded with beautiful flowers. As Vivienne's gardening skills improved, so did her control over magic. Roses quickly became her favorite flower.
One day, Cynthia brought Vivienne to the town to go grocery shopping. She warned her of the dangers of the townspeople filled with hate and prejudice, but it fell on deaf ears. Vivienne, bored of the menial task of shopping, wandered towards the town square. A gaggle of children approached her, berating and tyrannizing Vivienne for her otherworldly appearance. They snatched the star crown off Vivienne's head, causing her physical form to start dissolving. Cynthia, having noticed her child missing, rushed over to the commotion only to find Vivienne dissipating into stardust. Cynthia erupted at the children, scolding them for their irresponsibility. She hadn't yet known of the properties of the star crown. The parents of the children, unaware of the kids' actions, only saw an old woman yelling in the street. They picked up their children, protecting them from the crazed lady who had yelled at them. Cynthia returned home with tears in her eyes and Vivienne's star crown.
Later in the day, after the public outburst in the town square, the adults of the village decided that they needed to put an end to the Woodward's witchcraft once and for all. The townsfolk formed a mob and marched down to the family's house. Vivienne was nearly reformed after what happened earlier in the day but was still unconscious. The mob barged through the front door and ransacked the house, searching for any signs of dark magic. One townsfolk spotted an ornate wooden box, which contained the shards of Orionite from Vivienne's star birth. This was all the evidence the mob needed to justify their beliefs. The mob collectively decided on a punishment, execution. The couple stood hand in hand as a member of the mob sliced through their chests.
In the other room, Vivienne had just finished regenerating. Hearing the commotion and sensing the people in her home she ran out, only to find her parents lying wounded on the floor. Despair, rage, grief, she didn't know which emotion to feel. She felt herself slipping, but she had no time. The mob was coming for her next, and she wasn't going to take it lying down. She cast her magic upon them, setting several civilians ablaze in swirls of amber light. Then she turned her attention towards her parents. Their stillness was unnatural. Vivienne took their hands in hers, kissing them softly before returning towards the mob. Many of them had already charred, leaving a toxic, putrid smell in the room. Caught up in the action, Vivienne failed to realize that she had set her house on fire. The fire already encompassed the room entirely. Vivienne fleed, a deep, ravenous hunger still aching in her chest. Blinded with rage, she returned to the town. Suddenly, she didn't seem to care much about the roses, or pricking herself on a thorn. She set fire to each building she passed. It exhausted her to no end but it didn't matter to her. Not anymore. Her fury ended when she felt a foreign pair of hands lift the star crown off her head once more.
Vivienne regained consciousness in a strange building. One she'd never seen before. It was much more opulent than the buildings she was used to. Beautifully gilded pillars of marble shot up to a vibrant stained glass ceiling. Leather-bound books lined nearly every wall. Vivienne sat up, noticing a familiar wooden box next to her. The box that contained her Orionite. A rattle came from the door across the room. A wise-looking man opened the door and entered. He explained to Vivienne that he was a fellow mage. He lived in a tower obscured by forest and wildlife and was traveling to Regalia when he found the remnants of the city, which had been decimated. He saw Vivienne clearly in an episode and decided to subdue her. The mage offered her an internship; he'd teach her how to use her magic if she worked for him. For the next five years, Vivienne spent her time learning to wield her magic while cleaning, cooking, and housekeeping for the mage.
Come Vivienne's 20th birthday, she decided that her life was too stagnant. While she enjoyed her time with the mage, she realized she'd never lived anywhere of importance. She went from living in a small village to living and an isolated tower. It wasn't terrible by any means, but it was lonely. Amontaar called to her. A bustling city full of culture and life. In her old village, Vivienne was deprived of friends because of her Orion heritage. Perhaps, in a larger urban town, she could discover people much like herself. However, when Vivienne told the mage of her plan, he adamantly disapproved. After all, he and Vivienne made a deal. That didn't stop her, though. She snuck out of the tower one night, taking nothing more than the clothes on her back and her Orionite shards.
