Lord-Protector Heinrich von Moritz summons Sera Mila Braunbecker and Sera Mary Zu to stand trial before the Viridian Knights to answer to charges of violating the first tenet of the Common Knightly Code, and in doing so profaning the Emperor.

The Knight Trial will take place at Arena Court at 7 p.m. EST Thursday. All Viridian Knights in the city are welcome to stand on the panel to render judgment, and all citizens are welcome to watch the proceedings.

The Knight Trial will combine elements of the Judiciary Trial and the Court Martial:
  • Both accused knights will stand together as co-accused complicit in the code-breaking.
  • The accused knights will represent themselves, and will each offer their own defense in the matter. There will be no trial advocates, as a knight incapable of standing for their honor is no knight at all.
  • There are no nunctos. The only interruption in the proceeding is if a witness who gave a statement objects to the authenticity or truthfulness of how their signed statement was used in the trial. There is no pre-trial discovery or debates over the admissibility of evidence. Knights are expected to stand for and speak of honor at a moment's notice, and leaving room for preparation leaves room for deceptive pre-trial plots.
The trial process itself:
  • Introductory: The accuser will present the list of tenets broken. The accused will enter a plea of guilt or not guilt.
  • The Debate: The charges and response: The accuser will succinctly present each charge and present any accompanying evidence with them. Then, the accused will respond to each charge, alongside any accompanying evidence.
  • Closing: The Accused then presents a 10-minute closing statement. The Accuser then presents a 10-minute closing statement, and suggests appropriate punishment. The Viridian panel will cast votes for guilt or not guilt for the charges accused, before filing its recommended punishment to the knight order in question.
OOC:
The trial process is much, much shorter now than it ever has been, so this shouldn't take more than two hours to get through. Feel free to come and hang out for drama and complex moral questions!

A short and simple reply is posted in response to the announcement

"If there is any that can be trusted to diligently and effectively investigate these matters and get to the truth of it all, It would be the Lord Protector."

"He has never been a cruel man, or a lazy one, to imply even for a second that the efforts he would put into such a trial were based on falsehoods or an idea to ensure foul play on the accused couldn't be further from the truth. Any that claim such, do not know the man, or his character. I look forward to seeing the results from these proceedings."

Signed
Lord Commissioner Trent Nathamlanne
