    Basic Information (Expansion)

    • Time in Regalia: Verryl has not been in Regalia for very long, and it has been a long since she was last here. A week, maybe two at most; time is a blur when you decide not to keep track of it. She had very little intention of staying, at least not this long, though finds herself drawn back to the busy streets and bustling communities that thrive here. She has no set home and no real job, mostly picking up whatever she can do to make meets end as she travels; some describe her as perpetually running away, though she prefers the term 'avidly exploring'.
    • Upbringing: Verryl sprouted with three parents. She was their first, though not their last, as she became the 'older sister' to another Yanar her parents had several months later. Along with her four family members, Verryl enjoyed a lively upbringing with a community of Yanar and Cielothar alike. It was a loving community filled with friendship and a very lovely place to spend her early years that she wishes she could look back upon more fondly than she does.

    Personality

    Option One: The Question List
    • How would your character express Happiness and Contentedness?
      • Quietly, no major celebrations or jumps for joy. When happy she tends to talk more, asks fewer questions and just goes along with what's happening rather than resisting. She's also more likely to find the company of a friend to spend her time with when in a good mood.
    • How would your character respond to experiencing Fear?
      • Once upon a time, she may have frozen up, though now Verryl is more prone to putting up a fight when she's frightened. Her ability to produce a stave is one that she has grown comfortable with and if she feels as though she is in danger, she has no problems attempting to protect herself. If the situation cannot be reasonably fought against, though, she will turn tail and run.
    • How would your character respond to experiencing Stress?
      • Verryl does terribly in personal high-stress situations. She's more likely to ignore a problem until she's drowning in the consequences, and then taking off straight out of town, than trying to deal with the problem.
    • How does your character view Law and Authorities?
      • Neutral until she knows what to expect. They differ from place to place; just because they genuinely attempt to help people in one city, does not mean it will be the same in the next.
    • How does your character feel about Races other than their own?
      • Complicated. She's more inclined to trust her own, and those similar to her, than races that are further detached from the natural world. The exception, of course, is Scorrico.
    • How does your character feel about Religion for themselves and other faiths?
      • Once again, complicated. Once serious about it, now unsure with often wavering faith. She admires those who can keep trust in their own faiths, no matter what it may be.
    • How does your character feel about the Arcane and Magical in the world?
      • It exists, that much can't be denied. Those who use it for evil will eventually run out of luck; those who use it for good will eventually find happiness. Mostly, she's neutral.
    • How does your character feel towards their family?
      • She loved them while they were still here.
    • What is your character the most proud of about themselves?
      • Although Verryl finds it difficult to admit she is proud of anything, she is particularly pleased in her ability to pick up on new talents quickly enough. She likes to know the basics of at least a few frivolous skills and has so far accomplished that. She is also quite far of how far she's managed to travel alone, and the fact that she has managed to hold her own without getting into too much trouble.
    • What motivates your character to move forward and better their life?
      • Though she'll never admit it to herself, what she's looking for most is a home. A community of people like her who she can trust, a place she can belong again.
      • Verryl also hopes to someday, at least as a side-job, make a small business of selling handcrafted sculptures or clothes that she has made with the help of her natural abilities on top of her own desire to learn.
    • What is your character's biggest insecurity?
      • Opening up to others. She had suffered loss before and believes that opening up will only result in painful losses once more. She doesn't exactly shy away from social interactions, though she keeps to herself and doesn't share much information about herself.
    • What is your character's biggest fear?
      • Forever being alone and never finding a place where she can be happy. Being doomed to wander the world for centuries, potentially, with every connection she makes to another living being slipping away through either her own faults, the cruelty of others, or simply through the cracks of time.
      • Her second biggest fear is heights. Anything higher than about 30ft is too tall for her and she prefers keeping her feet firmly on the ground, thank you very much.
    General rundown:
Verryl is a lot more cynical than your average Yanar. It always seems to surprise people, that she's so... negative, so community-isolated, given all the assumptions that Yanar live in groups. Regardless, she tends to see and prepare for the worst first, keeps her distance from happy things in fear they crash and burn, and sticks to herself for company.
She also hates being touched, like most yanar, though is a lot louder in her displeasure about it than others would be. She makes no secret of how much she hates it and will gladly make a scene if it means people will stop touching her.

    Skills:

    >> Verryl has a decent enough sense of design. She's good at putting colours together whether it be furniture or clothing or otherwise. What dress to wear and what jewellery to compliment it, or what colours the painting you want to hang in your living room should be to make it fit in - she'll probably be able to figure it out if you give her some time.
    >> Considered one of her greatest skills by herself, Verryl can also sleep just about anywhere. Travelling about the world doesn't always leave time to find a nice Inn room and she's no stranger to having to tuck herself away in some decently sheltered shrubbery, or on an uncomfortable park bench for a few hours of sleep before she moves on.

    Likes:

    >> Verryl loves music. She plays the flute herself and doesn't mind playing it as a street performer at times, to earn a little extra coin. Mostly, though, she loves listening to other people playing. If she meets someone performing on the streets or hears someone playing in a bar she could sit there for hours listening to them play.
    >> Another love of hers is bread. The smell of it too, but mostly she enjoys being able to get up early to buy the freshest and warmest loaf from any available bakers nearby. She's tried her hand at making it herself though, in the end, nothing beats what she gets from bakeries. If she smells bread she just lets the smell carry her to the source.

    >> Finally, for Verryl, nothing quite beats being able to lay in the sun and soak in the heat. Having travelled to many places, and experienced the colder areas of the world even briefly, she can definitely say she much prefers the warmth and grass to snow and rocks.

    Dislikes:
    >> casual contact. it's not exactly unusual, and while all (or most) yanar do hate contact, verryl very much detests it. Friendly casual touches - hate. Hugs - despise. Even handshakes she won't tolerate, preferring to bow if she's forced to greet someone formally just to avoid it. It makes her skin crawl.

    >> owing debts. Verryl will shy away from most help because she feels like she will have to repay it, and hates that feeling hanging over her. she avoids favours where possible and always tries to establish a repayment before accepting help.
    >> the feeling of wet clothes. either clothes wet from rain, or puddles, or falling into a river, whatever it may be. it feels bad against her skin and she despises it. she tries to get out of wet clothes almost as soon as she gets into them.

    Life story

    Shortened version- (~600 words).

    222-252AD.
Born in Teled Methen, Daen, with three parents - Cyim'wym, Jarlon, and Evnis. A younger sister is born a few years later, Ni'malvan. Verryl is raised in a thriving community of yanar and cielothar where she learns how to fight with a stave, how to take care of the land and improves her gardening skills, becoming a guardian for the solur garden that has been created here. She also learns to play the flute from a family friend.

    252-259AD.
The land where Verryl and her community are living falls into hardships when communities outside of their own begin territory disputes. It worries the ones living there and it escalates until Verryl's mother, Cyim'wym, is killed. Grief-stricken and scared, half the community - including Verryl's family - flee to Daendroc to escape the violence. Here Verryl gets a low-end job as a farmhand, gaining some experience with caring for farm animals. Unfortunately, her sister is killed during this time in an accident.
Wanting to escape the painful memories and deaths they've endured in Daen, Verryl and her remaining two parents move to Corontium.

    260-272AD.
The small family make their home in Calemberg. They struggle to make meets end, only being offered poor jobs, barely able to feed themselves and make rent. There's not much nature here and they struggle to settle into the harsh city. Evnis gets offered a job in Regalia and travels there, intending to return home very soon, only wanting to leave to see what Regalia is like before they uproot their family once more.
Unfortunately they never return home and three years later a letter arrives stating that they died three years ago - the letter just never arrived. Angry and in pain, Jarlon and Verryl move to the city of Regalia themselves so Jarlon can investigate. Here, Verryl gains a new love for theatre and performing.

    273-280AD.
Verryl and her last-living family member don't find any records of Evnis' death. Instead, they are welcomed by a happy and friendly community of yanar who live in the city. They spend a few years here, enjoying the cheerful life they've found, until Verryl decides to have a child with another yanar who she's become close friends with. It works and she gets a year of happiness from this before her child and sort-of-lover both take off and leave Regalia without her.
Heartbroken, Verryl begins to consider she's cursed, and though Jarlon disagrees, the two of them agree it may be best to go their separate ways. Jarlon leaves to resume his search for his missing life-partner and Verryl flees the memories Regalia has inflicted upon her.

    281-291AD.
Verryl joins a travelling theatre group. It has 5 members, including her, and she spends ten years travelling around Corontium enjoying her life. She saves money, buys the blue coat she still wears today, and generally enjoys ten years of performing and improving her skills.

    292-present.
The travelling performers finally retire and go their separate ways. Verryl returns to Daen to continue exploring. She gains some talent in fabric work and sewing so she can keep her clothes in good condition, as well as takes a minor interest in wood work to keep herself entertained as she travels.
At some point around 298AD Verryl sells her watch and stops paying any attention to time. She stops looking at time, days, months, years, completely disregards time.
The exception is 304, when she learns of the burning of Regalia's solur garden, after which she returns to Corontium with the intention of seeking out Jarlon, and to see if he ever found her missing parent. Currently she has been in Regalia no longer than two weeks.

    Early life. (222AD - 251AD)
Verryl was born in Teled Methen, Daen. She lived with her family, three parents and a younger sister born four years later, and loved her community, consisting mostly of yanar and a small number of Cielothar. For the most part, she spent her youth learning to take care of nature, tending a small solur garden, and is also where she learned to play the flute - one of her childhood friends was learning from her own parent, and Verryl was invited to learn as well. As well as this she's taught how to fight with a stave from her parents as a means of protection.

    Tragedy Strikes! (252-259AD)
The area where Verryl was living at the time got caught up in the middle of territory scuffles. Not exactly unheard of, but a surprise for those living there regardless - a few deaths occur and Verryl lost a parent. Grief-stricken and unwilling to risk their lives further, the group split up - those who wished to remain and defend their home, and those who wanted to escape. Verryl and the remains of her family moved to Daendroc with a few others. They struggled to make a new life for themselves there, however, having lived in such an isolated community for so long.
Now, unable to fully support themselves on the land, Verryl decided to try and find work to support her family. She found a position as a farmhand at a farm very clearly failing to stay afloat but struggling against all odds to remain - here she worked with their livestock, where she gained a little experience in dealing with animals.
Saving was still difficult, however, with mouths to feed and rent to pay, and eventually what remained of the small community they'd left Methen with broke up to find easier lives elsewhere.
Unfortunately, in roughly 257, a mere five years since the death of a parent, Verryl and her family lost their youngest, Ni'malvan, in what was considered a freak accident that happened so unexpectedly that the family did not know how to handle it. They made the decision to leave Daen and find a home in Corontium. It took a couple more years to save enough to afford it, but eventually, they were on their way.

Further tragedy to fuel a fun tragic backstory. (260 AD - 272 AD)
Finally, having saved enough, Verryl and her two remaining parents, Jarlon and Evnis, moved to the city of Calemberg. Quite frankly they hated it there- not enough nature, too militaristic, and it felt like a very unwelcoming place. Having been where they'd turned up when landing in Corontium however it was where Verryl remained for the next eight years of her life.
They found work, albeit miserable work, and avoided societies as much as they could. They rarely met other yanar, certainly not long enough to try and find out about any yanar-based communities in the city, so they kept to themselves.
In 266, Evnis died - or at least, she assumes he did. Verryl was never too sure how- he'd left the city, temporarily, to try and find new work in the city of Regalia. It'd sounded promising when they'd been told about it and he'd left alone, promising to be home soon. The day never came and instead, in 269, they received a letter that'd been backdated in some terribly organised mail system that stated his death. No details, no offering for funeral arrangements, just a notice of death for 14th December 266AD.
Jarlon refused to take this as a fact and so taking their few savings and abandoning Calemberg, the two remaining members of the family moved to Regalia City. This is where Verryl began her interest in theatre and acting.

The tragedy never ends. (273 AD - 280 AD)
Verryl and Jarlon never did find out what happened to Evnis, though found a kind community in Regalia when they arrived. They were happy for a brief few years, trying to move past the loss of the rest of their family by becoming involved in the community of yanar who lived in Regalia at the time.
This lasted until 277AD. At this point Verryl was aged 55 and, wanting to bring some happiness back into their lives, she attempted to reproduce with another yanar she had grown close to who was also looking to have a child without having to do it alone.
This did work, and the new yanar who took root was healthy, though in 278, only a year after, the other parent and her child took off one night without a word.
It was at this point that Verryl began to seriously consider that she was under some sort of curse. Jarlon very firmly told her she was being ridiculous, that there was no way whatsoever she was cursed, and they'd both been equally as unlucky.
Still, they wanted to learn what had happened to Evnis, and she herself wanted to get away from the places full of painful memories. So, deciding together it was for the best, parent and child said goodbye to each other and went separate ways in 280AD.

    Theatre years. (281AD - 191AD)
When leaving Regalia, Verryl met a small group of people who were self-claimed travelling performers. With her little experience in having attended a couple of plays while in Regalia, she managed to convince them to let her join the group - consisting of herself, two dwarves, a sihai, and an altalar.
In those ten years they travelled all over Corontium, performing in streets for money, and though not everyone liked them, and though not all of their plays were particularly kind - some based on stereotypes of races not among them, others on tragic events retold dramatically - she did enjoy those ten years of learning to become a better actor.
She scarcely spent her share of the money, instead intending to save, though it was in these years that she bought the blue coat that she still wears today. At the time it was considered out of fashion, and likely still is, but it became her prized possession.
At the end of the ten years, when the others were ready to retire from their dancing shows, and when Verryl felt like she had seen enough of Corontium, the group parted ways on good terms and Verryl bought herself a ticket back to Daen.

    Travelling years. (292AD - present)
Once arriving back in Daen, Verryl took what was left of her savings and headed off to explore. She never settled down very long, remaining at most a few weeks in each place. Along the way she learned the basics of how to sew and make clothes, using the skills to keep her small number of clothes in good condition. She worked whatever odd-end jobs were offered to make money, slept rough where she had to, spent her spare time learning the local cultures of wherever she went. As well as this, to keep herself safe and to have something to do with her hands, she began working on wood-work to make small wooden statues that she could sell whenever she got the chance.
Somewhere along the lines she grew tired of... time in general, sold her watch, and literally just decided to stop checking the date. Whenever she learned of the time, month, year, it was strictly by chance - maybe having a brief conversation with someone who mentioned a date, or passing by a town with a town-clock, the likes of that. The last time she heard of what year it was it was in 304, after the solur gardens in Regalia were burned to a crisp. It was enough of a horror for her to eventually learn of it even a month late while travelling through Daendroc for the ninth time in her life from the local yanar population.
At present, she has returned to Corontium to search for Jarlon and potentially Evnis, if he does happen to still live. Returning to Regalia has been startling for her after so long - it has changed drastically even is such a short time - but for now, it is where she remains.
