Part of the ongoing discussion internally in how to break open some of the more linear race lore, the first to come around is the Varran Creative Expansion, by which we mean, creating sub-races for the Varran race, as opposed to inventing entirely new races. The exact taxonomy and genus categories not making sense doesn't really matter in perspective of real-life terminology, rather, the focus here is increased creativity and fun. Previously, the Varran race were purely feline, and they fulfilled that role well, but in comparison to say the Elves, the Varran were a very homogeneous race with little internal variety. This creative update, creates far more variety. The Varran have been switched from an entirely Feline race to a predominantly Feline race with a few sub species.

Changes
  • "Old Varran" are now called Warran Varran, and they remain largely the same. The old 2 birth types have been removed and "Old Varran" are just a base-type now with Minimum Slim and Max Ripped Body Shape as well as a flexible personality. +10 of their Proficiency boost in Rogue Training has been moved to Perception Training.
  • Yarran Varran have interited the "Bulk Cat" properties of the previous Varran, and have been given sabreteeth, to act as the "big Varran" sub niche.
  • Sarran Varran are a Civet-based Varran subspecies with an intensely fluffy and airy tail, as well as a heavy emphasis on dancing, contortion, stage performance and beauty. The Sarran are petite creatures which act like diplomats and entertainers.
  • Ovirran Varran are an Otter-based aquatic Varran race which largely focuses on the lacking aquatic niche since the disappearance of the Maiar. They have also invented Spandex. Because why not.
  • Rakrran and Bakrran Varran are two species of Varran closely related to one another with Raccoon and Badger oriented designs, their niche being thieving and rogue, expert sneakers and burglars.
What Should Players do?
  • Those who have a Varran App already should just change the Rogue Proficiency to Perception. A re-review is not necessary, it is within the 10 point change margin, just @tag a new lore staff member to re-tag your app as approved.
  • Consider making a new character with one of the sub races! They are yet a little underrepresented in the cultural sections, but are sure to make an impact in roleplay one way or another, as the Varran race has been just been expanded.
What more is planned?
  • We are reviewing all races with the intention of playing "Tall" not "Wide". What this means is that we want to focus more on the concept of racial diversity, and less on adding more and more races.
  • Avanthar Body Shape mechanics will change a bit, as well as their Imprinting being more Proficiency based.
  • Isldar aesthetics will allow for more individual freedom with Dregodar appeal.
  • Maraya will have their race split into 4 sub races each with their own role in Maraya society.
  • Orc will have 3 new subraces, Dwarf Orcs, Slender Orcs and Athletic Orcs for more diversification.
  • Url will have 3 new Head designs: Boar-like, Polar bear-like and horse-like (all still have the Url Horns though). Url will also gain a new form of Symbiosis, ingestion of the worm, which changes the head shape of the person as well as the furred legs, but nothing else about their body or mental state.

OH WOW
hell to the yes! excited about badgers n otters! bless up

I like the Sarran! They breath a peaceful occupation that is rather lacking in roleplay. However, it states they are very mercantile oriented in terms of gems and stones, would it be safe to assume they are greedy, or just reasonably attracted to the gems and stones? It states they aren't thieves and they seem all around more interested in looks and more peaceful hobbies than anything malevolent.

The lore implies they like them for self-decoration through jewelry.

I just hope that the Url rewrite doesn't remove the giaraffe heads. My url would lose his amazing aesthetic. Also, I love the new subraces for the Varran. Can't wait for the dwarf rewrite.
