Hello!

I recently proposed a player base trading card game in another thread. (https://forums.massivecraft.com/threads/massive-trading-cards-idea.55181/#post-680352)

My idea is this:
Create a trading card game based off players (with their express approval) and custom mobs. I would have common cards (for example, undead cultist or enderman) and more rare cards (looking at you, Tokuu).

I'm not 100% on how I'd distribute, but I would completely randomize the total card library into packs of 5. Then I assign numbers to those packs. When a customer wants to buy a pack I ask the randomizer for a number, pull that pack out and sell that to them.

The packs will be a set rate. Players are then free to trade them at whatever amount they desire. I will not regulate pricing on cards in any way. The only variable in these items will be that some cards will have smaller runs than others, and therefore will be rarer than common cards.

There has been some precedent to whether this violates the server rules on the grounds of gambling. So that's why I'm asking here: is this idea a violation of the rules in any way?

I believe this technically is gambling as players don't know what they are getting. It's like setting up two dispensers. One had a stick and the other had a yellow item. A player has to pay 100r to pick the dispenser. Whichever they pick, either an item for less than what they paid or an item worth more than what they paid comes out. That scenario is gambling and In this case, it being so similar with players not knowing what they would get is basically the same Concept. While card value is really determined by how a player sees that mob or player on the card, it's still them paying for getting something they don't know.

This will probably be considered gambling due to the rarity of some cards and the randomization part.

If this is the case, then how is server lore and voting any different?
I don't think rarity is the issue. Its more the case of not knowing what you're getting. With voting you know if this is your first or so vote, you'll be getting any of the items in the range of what the vote rewards are set up for. When voting you aren't putting in any regals so you aren't gambling your money away.

That is run by Administration, We are not administration, we are peasants in their server, Not allowed to gamble.
No, voting is different from gambling. In gambling you give in regals with a chance of getting something worth more or worth less than what you put in. Voting on the other hand is free and you get an item which is worth more than free. Also the gambling rule still applies to The staff team, they cant enforce such rules without following it themselves.

On a personal basis sure but not like if it was an event
I'm talking about when they aren't doing staff work. When staff are acting like players, they follow rules as players. When they are hosting events and such, then they have more permissions.

Regardless, if you really want this to happen I would suggest messaging the staff privately and pitching this to them as something they could potentially host. Because it might work out better that way

I'd be down for the idea however it may be advised to tell players that the contents may or may not be worth the risk. But yes, talk to staff

1. They've done some kind of trading card game already.
2. Of this is my idea and I'm doing the work, I should benefit from the proceeds.
