With the upcoming changes to Factions, this just came to my mind when someone mentioned "trade caravans" being something they look forward to. This got me thinking. What good are trade caravans if you can use /trade? Obviously, having to trek long distances to trade your things would be far more fun! Thus, I propose a simple idea, yet one that could have a profound impact.

Make /trade have a distance limit to a few chunks, or even a few blocks. That way, the benefit of secure trade remains, but players must still go to each other in order to exchange items.

With no central market, people are going to have travel at least some distance, even if it is through portals, to shop for items if they want to buy something from else someone else. I would love to see people travel from faction to faction, trying to find people to sell their wares too if they don't want to setup a chest based shop at that time.

As long as the distance isnt too short, I would be down. I think a limit like 100 blocks would be enough to not be overly obnoxious while still making people travel to cities to trade for goods.

Yeah, I like /trade for security reasons, and also because it makes EXP tradeable. But it will also be nice to see factions with their own personal markets again, as well as players trading more frequently in person. This is probably the best compromise.

Maybe it'd insert some new life into faction cities!

Basically my thoughts in a nutshell. I'd rather have both options available since they cater to two things. Trade is a nice feature and is my go to because I for one to not care to waste time travelling just to make a trade.

If I buy things, I will travel to a faction. If I want to trade one item for another, I'm going to use /trade.

I think this is a really good idea as causes allies to trade with each other more often and enemies to hardly ever trade which is parallel to what would happen in real life. The formation of trade routes between allied factions is an interesting concept and this modification to /trade would definitely encourage their formation.

Everyone will trade at spawn.

Everyone will trade at spawn.
Trading at spawn will probably occur very often with this change, but this would cause spawn to not be empty and allow for players to sell/buy items directly from players instead of from a shop chest more often. I view the current trade plugin as similar to a teleport to player plugin on other servers: it is convenient and saves time, but it also causes things to be too easy and eliminates a possible experience. The tpa plugin commands were removed 6 years ago because of these reasons.

People won't go to each other, only pm and meet at spawn as they always did. Limiting /trade distance gives nothing and makes no sense at all. Also, since there won't be any centralized market, they would meet at spawn more often either way.

Still, I feel like having to go to spawn would bebetter than trading across the map. You still meet somewhere. You just meet in a safe sone. That isn't strange. I'd expect much trade to take place in safe zones in a place like Aloria.

I agree. Worst case scenario the faction spawn becomes a trade hub, which is still better than what we had before.
