Ok, so..The worst problem with events. Everyone loves events, events are great! Everyone likes events but there's one glaring flaw, which effects a lot of players

TIMEZONES

Timezones. A lot of events, and some important ones, are held too late for some people in the UK! That's why not many UK players bother with events. It gets on my nerves and probably gets on other's nerves too. Us brits who use the GMT time probably won't attend events because they're too late. Like, who's going to stay up at 11pm for a military meeting which will last until 0:00. Not many people, but it suits the American time zone because it suits the hosts. It's not balanced much. Here's a list of some appealing events that are a bit late in the UK if on weekdays.

When?: July 22-23, 6 P.M EST (9:pm Sunday GMT)

When?
July 16th 5pm CST (That's 22:00pm Thursday GMT)

OOC
When?: July 8th 10PM GMT
Where?: A TP will be set up

These are a small number of events which are too late for people in the UK unless adults. Adults aren't going to staying up at 22:00 if they have a job. Who's going to be playing minecraft at 22:00? Not many employed people. Not many younger people, who at this time of year could have exams such as GCSE's or Exams to determine what set they get in next year, or even SATs.

Now you're probably thinking, 'they don't have to go'. But it makes it seem as if it's suited for the American public or other nations that has a similar time zone. Just hoping that we could make more events suit British time. Thnx lol.

My perspective has and all will always be this. Host your events to fit your own schedule. If people can't make it, oh well, if people can, great. Most of the weekend events are scheduled for around 9 PM or 10 PM GMT making them accessible for most people. There are several events scheduled during a day, typically three at most. This allows for a majority of people to be able to attend at least one event. But again, my philosophy has always been to host events that fit your own schedule and attend the ones that follow this same trend. If you want more GMT centered events (I'm unsure what time you had in mind to be optimal) simply host them yourself, or work with other people to get them out. I hosted an event yesterday which I wrote up the thread for the day before. Why? Because it fit with my schedule and I knew it wouldn't take a lot of time to set up. I see the point of the thread and it is well written, but the best solution is to make your own events to fit with your schedule. You lead me to see that there are other's in GMT with the same issue so if you all worked together I'm sure you could host many events. I live in the EST and miss most every event due to work so I can see your feelings, but then again, I get off work at 9 or 10 when these events seem to happen for GMT, but all the same I hope that you find a solution.
Just take note of who is hosting events and the majority of players. Most are from the United States so naturally most hosts would be from the US or adhere to the US to reach the most players.

I understand you're philosophy, it's a good one. But if you're from the UK and you can't make an event which will actually be popular, then what next? You can try and contact people and even centre it around your own people. There are higher ranking players in popularity, if you ask me. You know, like the Coens. Their events will get a lot of views because everyone knows them. What if you're not even a noble and wanna host something? Or you have like 3 followers? A lot of the more popular players ARE from the US. Everyone knows them, so if they host a public event it'll get A LOT of guests probably. But if you're a low noble from a little known house, and you want to host an event, then it can be quite hard. Let's say a lot of people from Houses like Coen or Kade are from the US, and will make it to fit their schedule. And it's usually nobles, and sometimes high nobles, that host events. If the most popular are from the US, they'll make it to fit their schedule, that's right. But if it's not at least balanced then some people won't even bother anymore and numbers could decrease. They might not to be able to have as many players as they could. If you wanna do late GMT events on WEEKENDS, I don't mind because everyone stays up later than usual on weekends, but on weekdays it can be a little boring for people. That's just what I think. I could have the very unpopular opinion but I don't care. In summary I think some events are just a little late. What if these events are vital to your character or what they are involved in and you can't make it because it's too late? Like the military assembly, though there are strict invites. It could be incredibly vital to your character and impact them massively (pun intended) and you get to miss it because of time zones. I believe there should be more balance. Though a lot of nobles are European, this is just if they weren't.

Aaaaaactually. I am European, house Kade has one from Australia, one from America, one from the UK and another from Bahrain. House Coen is ran by someone from the UK, has a Swede in it, a Canadian, another person from the UK, one from Denmark and only one from the USA. In the cited example families, only one person is truly from the USA (two if you include Coen's wife, but even when her relatives are from the UK).

The reality here is that us Europeans who are part of these families actually prefer events and roleplay closer to bed time because most of us just aren't in the roleplay mood when it's light outside. The same problem sort of applies to Americans, but we "already" make them bend over backwards by making them roleplay between noon and evening to suit Europeans, who (despite being in the majority with some of the more active families) are in the minority to as much as 20 to 30% of the server population.

I feel 11 PM events on the weekends in GMT are very reasonable. I would even prefer them at 1 AM. That being said, we cannot dictate a change in hosting times, Everyone just hosts events when it's convenient for them. Sometimes I host events at 10 PM, sometimes at 3 AM because I like switching it up between Pacific Americans and Europeans. Remember, when it's 9 PM in the UK, it's barely noon in California. You don't exactly want to be forced to hop onto a roleplay event straight out of bed just to suit a European. Midnight European time is a really healthy medium time that suits practically anyone but teenagers with repressive parents and Australians who don't like getting up at 8 in the morning to roleplay.

On a side note. It's not that an event won't be participated in if it's hosted at say, 8 PM UK time. It's just that you don't get to have East to West US people and no AUS people at all since it's well into 3 Am there. You play an event with 30% turnout essentially because it's just not reasonable.

Ah, ok. I just felt I should write it as a lot of the time I feel some people aren't able to take part in events. Do u know how to lock threads? Can I do that myself or does a staff member have to do it?

I think it's still a valid request to make. I suppose it's more a personal appeal for people to host every third or fourth event one or two hours earlier to get a different crowd.

The Aussies are always late to the party all the cool people are

A lot of us in the US have jobs as well. Most of my shifts are super early so I can't host any events till it's late in the evening for Europeans. We're forced into certain timeslots as well.

i try to make my events as convenient as humanly possible, but you can't always win, and some people can't show up.
