As to what this journey entails and what will be told, that is yet to be seen but it will get there soon enough. Though, my fellow reader, I hope you’ll be there to see it through. Now, onto the main edition of this month’s reading.

Main Issue: Wintertide Gift Guide for 309 AC

    By Eponia di Civita

The snow has already dusted the streets and with the Wintertide decorations already having been hung, it’s time my fellow readers, for the festivities and gift-giving to begin. With plenty of shops dotting Mainstreet and the Imperial Isle, there’s no shortage of businesses offering wares for this Wintertide season to give as gifts. But with so many options, it must be a hard decision to make in finding the right present for a family member or friend. However, if assistance is needed or having trouble finding somewhere, fret not, this simple guide will help soothe those worries by giving some direction to the right place.

Though, to note, this gift guide will be split up into two parts as there were so many shops to discuss. So if you don’t see a shop on here that meets your needs, wait until tomorrow for part two of this special guide.

    Al-Saeati Bazaar

The first shop on the list, the Al-Saeati Bazaar is a unique business that sells Clockwork and other items that are unique to this specialty. Armor and weaponry are also sold at this Mainstreet business.

“We sell anything from household machinery to the finer equipment such as Clocktik spiders, music boxes, telescopes, and even the rare Isaq’tilay, which is what you’d call a fridge, leaves our workshop from time to time. But we also make armor on request, or weaponry, which we can engrave equally well.” The owner Mister Amir Razavi explained.

When it comes to certain items for Wintertide, Mister Razavi mentioned several items that came to mind for a perfect present.

“Right, I already mentioned the music boxes we produce, a popular gift around this time of year. We make smaller trinkets, decorative pocket watches, fine jewelry, more artistic, moving structures of metal, like moving statues. Fancy pens, and so on.” He stated.

Mister Razavi suggests the moving statues for a recommended present due to their nature and how life-like they can be.

“Imagine having a small, metallic bird on your desk, singing a song, flapping its wings to the turning of the mechanisms inside of it. All sorts of structures are possible.”

These types of gifts would be lovely for someone who has a fascination for engineering, or just in general exotic and unique mechanisms that would add a twist to day to day life. As a final note, Mister Razavi said that appointments can be made prior by simply just penning him a letter.

    Buzz & Bumble Sweet Shoppe

This quaint little shop sits underneath the Golden Willow, a simple sweet shop whose candies always have a slight twist to them through alchemical means. It’s sweet owner, Lalima Lymila, has been in the sweets shop business for some time, dating back to almost 100 years ago opening up his first sweet shop and bakery with his sister back in Ithania.

“This shop is in the spirit of the old store. Here I seek to combine Alchemy with candy into truly unique treats and sweets.” Mister Lymila noted when asked to describe his business.

While he hopes to dazzle each sense with all of his sweets, he did note that his Sweet Shoppe sold seasonal Wintertide candies. Particularly: Fanfare; gum that makes a trumpet noise once it’s bubbles pop, Everwarm Pastries; something to keep you warm out in the cold, Old Man’s Candy Canes; a candy that will visible age your appearance for a short time, and Sugar Plum Visions; something to take before sleep to ward off bad nightmares.

Mister Lymila recommends the Wintertide log whose effects he left as a surprise for people to come see for themselves. He explained the treat as, “Cake with an icing center rolled over on itself. The cake and icing is mundane in nature, but the alchemy kicks in with the chocolate end piece, which is shaped like a family of raccoons.”

These candies are perfect for a fun and surprise treat for children or anyone that has a sweet tooth. Though, it’s best to keep in mind the alchemical effects of these treats will not work on anyone who is not prone to be affected by such things.

    Caring Claws Veterinary Clinic

Situated on Mainstreet behind the Burning Bridges Clinic, a vet clinic founded by Marchioness Natharia Mac Conall that has all types of services for a person’s furry friend, of either shape and size.

“We strive to help those who can not help themselves. We offer vet services, adopting as well as supplies.” The Marchioness explained.

Even though a new pet for a loved one or friend would always be a perfect wintertide gift, there’s gifts still to be given to a current pet. The marchioness explained that the vet clinic is offering new seasonal toys that are adorable and durable for a pet. As for a certain someone else, she suggests gift baskets for anyone who has a passion for animals as there is a plethora of variety for each type of pet when it comes to this gift.

If none of that sounds like a good gift, fret not, as there’s always a pet for someone at the Marchioness’s clinic.

“It depends what your loved one or friend would like… But considering our place is literally for animal lovers alike, you would need to come in to look at our stock!” She stated.

    Circus of Cards

This particular business does have a location, but for reasonability and practicability, Circus of Cards is owned by an infamous jester named Miss Laria Mogun who specializes in services in any sort of games and fun.

“The Circus offers all sorts of things, from toys to games, to tricks and pranks! And of course, the know-how to teach anyone who’d want it how to show off those tricks and plan those pranks.” Miss Mogun stated.

She also explained that there’s also a collection of knick-knacks and oddities that the business has accumulated from all over the Imperial Isle. So if something stated above doesn’t fit a certain taste, any of these mysterious bits and baubles may be a good gift, but Miss Mogun gave an indication that these are also of the weird or kooky variety.

Anywho, many of Miss Mogun’s products are safe for any age save for a few such as one named as the ‘Wannabe Mobster’ which is more of a trick for adults than children.

“It’s basically a modified cigar cutter you put someone's finger into, and then WHAM! Makes a startling snapping noise like ya just took their finger off, but all that broke was a smidge of balsa wood.” Miss Mogun explained while describing the device.

There are certain wares in her stock that are perfectly suited for Wintertide. A good gift would be either the aptly named snowball scoopers for the cold outdoors or an Eternal Rose for a special loved one.

Starting with the first, in Miss Mogun’s own words, it’s a perfect gift to make the perfect snowball. “Lets ya snag the perfect snowball in a second, or make that perfect base for a snowman.” She stated.

Onto the second gift, the Eternal Rose is a delicately crafted wooden rose crafted by local wood singers, that also crafted the snowball scoopers for Miss Mogun.

“I’d recommend taking them into someplace like the uh… Perfume apothecary across the way after that to get them scented. The smell will last forever, and they make for a nice room decoration as well!” Miss Mogun explained when asked about the Eternal Rose.

If neither of these gifts seems like a perfect gift, Miss Mogun says a game set can never go wrong. She recommends a game called Battleship, a two-player game of naval combat though with fewer tactics and more simplified.

All of these wares would be a good gift for children or just someone who enjoys games and tricks. There’s always that one prankster out there, no?

For discretion, while her shop may be out of reach for some, the best way to contact Miss Mogun for any of the Circus of Cards is simply by letter to arrange a meeting.

    The Paper Dragonfly

An aptly cultural themed shop based around the Sihai cultures, the Paper Dragonfly is settled on Mainstreet and across the way from the Burning Bridges. The shop is run by two lovely owners, Miss Seishan Wei and Miss Novellia Tsai. As Miss Seishan put it when describing her shop. “The Paper Dragonfly is an importer of Sihai fine goods; from teas, dishware, to books translated from Wa’an into other languages. We celebrate our cultures, and invite regalians to do so.”

The shop does offer some wintertide items, specifically the teas which Miss Wei explained were incredibly popular. Paired with one of their exquisite tea sets, this would make a great present for this season. Though if another gift is in order, there are other items in the shop that could be an equally wonderful wintertide present.

“In addition, any writer would love our calligraphy collection, and a seamstress would find our fabrics to be of the utmost quality.” Miss Wei explained.

However, another recommendation for a present was the Paper Dragonfly’s jade jewelry sets. “I believe that our jade jewelry would make a wonderful gift for family and friends, but especially your loved ones. We have kinds that feminine, but also several masculine varieties.” Miss Wei stated.

This shop would be the best present for those who favor the sihai culture or just have an exotic taste for things. As well, those would just be more interested in learning more about the culture and would like to have a piece of it inside their homes.

“Any customer who might be interested in learning more about Sihair culture, to please any member of our staff. We love to teach others about our homeland, and would be happy to share what we know. There is a spacious seating area on the third floor, where we would be happy to share our knowledge, and enjoy a cup of tea together.” Miss Wei elated.

    Petunie

Another unique shop on this list, Petunie is a business run by Lady Lucrece Peirgarten that sells high-quality accessories and hat wear.

“With exclusive releases of fashionable hat wear, hair accessories, and general accessories for any reason or occasion.” Lady Peirgarten stated. When it comes to specifics, the Lady explained that in her wares is a collection of charms themed around birth months through floriography. Which, is the language of flowers for those who didn’t know. There are also purses, fans, and a few hats that could make a lovely present. Though there a upcoming plans for this wintertide to release more themed wares for the season.

“We plan to release a much larger collection for wintertide for all of the peerage to be able to browse through. Scarves, watches, sashes, and hats! - the list goes on.” Lady Peirgarten explained.

The lady recommends a customized hat or some type of headwear or accessory for a present from her shop, for they have a more personal touch to them. But suggest other wares if those aren’t to someone’s liking.

“Though- if headwear is not something they like, I’d suggest a watch of a purse from our collections.”

If any of these gifts are of interest, Petunie can be found above the Burning Bridges which can be accessed by the stairwell near the Regalian Foodcourt.

    Rosencrae Apothecary

An alchemical shop run by Miss Iranela di Ithania and Kayhdin Kee'lyth, the Rosencrae Apothecary is settled on Mainstreet near the Caring Claws Veterinary Clinic. As said, this shop comprises many alchemies of differing varieties.

“Medicinal, utilitarian, body care, entertainment….We do our best to have a wide selection of alchemy that would suit most who walk in.” Miss Iranela explained.

While the Apothecary mainly focuses on its medicinal purposes, their perfumes and alchemies meant for entertainment are a highly popular choice at the shop.

“Perfumes are likely the best items we currently have for wintertide gifts, but Ser Marillia is working on a particular line of fragrances specific to the holiday. They’re not out yet, but hopefully will be soon.” Mis Iranela explained. As for reference, Mister Mirillia is the main creator of all the perfumes that are sold at the Rosencrae Apothecary.

There’s still plenty of other wares that would make a good wintertide present outside of perfumes. Miss Iranela commented that she’s planning to release new bath fragrances to accompany the perfumes. Though if that’s not something a buyer is looking for, she stated that there are also fireworks, sparklers, and smoke bombs of varying colors, for those wanting a bit more excited she commented. If either isn’t what someone is looking for, there’s also a small item called the ‘Dreamchaser’.

“A small jar of liquid that flows and glows gently for an hour once shaken. Like… A colorful candle at your bedside, but without the flame.” Miss Iranela explained.

She certainly recommends the Dreamchaser and the perfumes for a wintertide present this year, and as well specifically Las Amantes Saficas for a scent. “It has just a hint of pine under its floral scent, which I find quite lovely.” Miss Iranela said when describing this perfume.

There are still many other wares that the Apothecary sells, and constantly creating more each day. Though that’s left for customers to come by and see for themselves, Miss Iranela explained.

    Songflower Spa

Another shop that’s a bit out of the way and found at Clawcourt 12, the Songflower Spa is owned and run independently by Miss Elena Wilson. This spa shop sells plentiful spa products for day-to-day needs, and as well as having differing spa sessions or treatments. Miss Wilson lists massages, haircuts, and manicures just to name a few examples. The Songflower Spa also provides differing packages with a combination of these treatments.

“There is a full spa session which includes all of the treatments above plus a little bit in the sauna, which can be bought by itself for a person too.” Miss Wilson stated.

Most of the wares sold at the spa are mainly for beauty and cosmetics though with a few extra things. “I have quite a big selection of products, but some of them are massage oils, lotions, candles, some teas, face masks, and nail files.” Miss Wilson explained. Among these are also some exclusive wintertide themed products such as the candles and oils that smell and look the part of this festive season.

As for recommendations, Miss Wilson recommends the spa session which can be given as a gift for one person or even a couple.

“Well I would give the spa session since it includes all the services above, and if they don’t want any they can skip over one. Or if it’s a present for a couple the deal is for two.” She explained. “It’s the sauna time, massage, manicure with wintertide art if they want and hairstyling.”

    Two-Claw Hunt Shop

Same with the previous shop, the Two-Claw Hunt Shop sits underneath the Willow adjacent to the Buzz and Bumble Sweet Shoppe. As the name of the shop implies, the owner, Barbossa Yaotl, explained that the shop is stocked with wild game, hunting supplies that can be customized, pelts, and some other unique items. Such things are soft raptor plushies and rabbit foot charms which are said to bring good luck.

As for preferred gifts, she recommends giving someone a pelt or stew meat for this cold and chilly winter season.

“We’ve also got pelts. Wolf, deer, sometimes fox. Good for the winter. Should keep you warm. Just, if it comes from an animal, we...probably have it?” Miss Yaotl explained.

The Two-Claw Hunt Shop offers bountiful gifts for anyone who has a passion for hunting or is just even interested in wildlife.

    Uncommon Scents

Another shop nestled underneath the Golden Willow, Uncommon Scents comes from a humble beginning with an ever humbled owner, Miss Safrina Vermillie. Miss Vermillie’s business started out as a small exclusive service inside the Golden Obscura, another popular business that dedicates to high-class food and drinks, and along with special services by its workers. Through there, there was only time for her business to grow because of how popular her products became along with the service’s particular niche, individuality in each handmade item that’s made by her.

“We’re about making the right thing, the individual thing, for everyone who comes in. Everyone loves feeling special, we like making people feel special with only the highest quality service and products.” Miss Vermillie explained.

Now as to what service Uncommon scents offers? That would be customized perfumes and colognes, and recent addition of custom soap orders. Each order is tailored to each customer specifically. Though that is the main feature of this shop, Miss Vermillie said there are also seasonal perfumes that are made in bulk.

“Every season, we prepare three standards, seasonal scents. These usually fit one category each: a feminine scent, a masculine scent, and something that is more…without a preference. Each season yields three and only three–unless I’m feeling spontaneous.” She stated.

If the custom orders are too high of a price for someone, the seasonal perfumes are at a very cheaper price if money ever becomes an issue for getting a Wintertide gift. For this Wintertide season, a popular choice among the seasonal scents has been Dream, especially among the nobility. But, Miss Vermillie dutifully recommends getting a custom order, for every detail through the process is tailored by the customer.

“It is just the best process. It’s as enjoyable for me as it is for the person ordering. Everything is custom, down to the glass bottle design and color.” Miss Vermillie explained enthusiastically.

This would be a wonderful place to get a gift for a certain someone who adds their own little personal touch to their person, or someone who would like something very intimate.

    Weaving Wishes

As such with the business beginning this list, the last shop mentioned, Weaving Wishes, is settled on Mainstreet near the Greygate Prison. Owned by Miss Medea, this small but quaint shop offers its services as a weaver. Though Miss Medea does more than just sell fabrics and other roles of textiles.

“We also provide clothes, rugs, tapestries, or services like ironing or redying your wears.” She explained.

While all of these services are provided to both the public and the peerage, Miss Medea offers the service of Haute Couture to only the nobility. This refers to personal hand-crafted clothing made from exclusive and rare colors and fabrics.

“No dress is the same, and each has a personal touch.” Miss Medea stated. She goes on to explain, “That is what makes haute couture special- it is exclusive and customized to that wearer. It makes the whole experience from ordering it to sewing it, personable.”

Though outside of that, the shop also sells plushies which are seasonal for this Wintertide. Some plushies that are on display are penguins and snowmen.

As for recommendations for a wintertide gift, Miss Medea recommends plushies, ugly sweaters, and even ornamental pins.

“We have pins and cufflinks that you can stick on your clothing.” She stated.

Weaving Wishes would be a perfect place to get new clothing for either friends and family and have enough variety to cater to different states. Though if part of the peerage, haute couture is highly recommended as each dress or suit is always one of a kind.

*All Shops mentioned in this article can be found on Mainstreet or underneath the Golden Willow, or are independent sellers
