Remembering the life of Emperor Henri III
(2 August, 91 - 19 February, 161 A.C.)
Tomorrow is the 147th anniversary of Blessed Henrîche le troisième Ivrae de Sange's death. He was 69. This Emperor is remembered fondly by the Regalian people as a reformer and restorer of professionalism. Inheriting the throne from his decadent father, Henri le deuxième, on 29 November 122 A.C., he collapsed the decadent court of his late predecessor and rebuilt it in his image: a model of professionalism still upheld in today's court.
The young prince was reared distinctly different from his father's own upbringing, being tutored and averted from the haute court and instead learned in the art of statesmanship and the Unionist faith. But it was not just the Imperial court that Henri III changed, but the very Viridian Order.
Despite some powers being revoked from the Order by Henri II, the Viridians remained an extremely potent force within the Empire. Henri III took prophylaxis against this Order in the same vein as his father, altering guard stations throughout the palace and generating acts to restrain the Viridians. Such as it was, when Henri III heard wind of a plotted coup against the Imperial Seat, the knights feeling threatened by his protective measures, and gathered loyal men for the arrest and execution of the conspirators. This was New Year's Eve. On 1 January, 123 A.C., the Viridian Reform Act was promulgated by the Emperor; through this mighty blow, the Viridian Order was deprived of their status as Imperial Guards and as the City Watch - now replaced by the Tyrian and Violet Orders.
Now with no threats to his reign present, the new devout Emperor embarked on reform, stability, and meditation; firstly dissolving the ancient Effleur Estate, thence marrying the sister of his respected chancellor Vladimir Kade (thereby permitting the Kade dynasty control over all Anglia), and thereafter creating the School of Sancella for seminarians. However, his long-lasting impact on Regalian affairs did not cease there: he supervised the generation of Sancella government, and reconquered the Opper Calem region from the Skagger Hordes.
The Second Holy War for Unification proceeded from the first. Henri III's grandfather Henri I had grown tired fighting in the former and occupied Wirtemcaller kingdom and had ceased war over it. Combat would not resume under his son and successor Henri II for he turned his attention inward towards pleasure and amusement. Thus it came to pious Henri III, who resumed hostilities and seized Opper Calemberg within a decade. The Battle of Bashtur's Sword effectively ended Skagger opposition and Regalia, already trouncing the Horde since the beginning, pushed its advantage to the last. Sadly Henri III would not live to see final victory, for the war continued until after his death in 161 A.C. to 179 A.C.. A full eighteen years.
So was the life of Blessed Henri III, a man who contributed immensely to the unification of the Archipelago and under whom no less than four schools began. Securing the succession with the future Emperor Allamaria, Henri III also secured the future stability of the Imperial Seat through restraining the knightly orders further with support from the newly made Codes by Yvrize Clair-vois-blanc, thirty years after the near coup d'état.

Lord Chancellor Establishes Advisory Cabinet
17 February
17 February
The 18th Lord Chancellor of the Regalian Empire, His Eminence the Grand-Duke of Basta-Irvelle Louis Delmotte, has formed a four-man advisory cabinet not dissimilar to the cabinet style employed by his predecessor in her waning days in office. As of the time of writing, two of the four seats have been filled by Faith Secretary Jared Kade and Violet Guard Commander William Howlester. The purpose of the body is to advise the Lord Chancellor on matters concerning diplomacy, economics, law, and warfare as stated by the Lord Chancellor himself. As such, due to its advisory nature, the cabinet nor any members will have legislative authority or enhanced powers as would be the case with the Secretary and Lord Commander respectively. We commend the Lord Chancellor for creating a cabinet and urge all future Lord Chancellors to do the same.
It is the position of this paper that the singular rule by one man or woman without knowledge is inept. Consequently, we urge reduction of arms in stable peace, that instead funding be placed towards the education of all first-class citizens and most especially the nobility for the purpose of enhancing our economy and the advancement of culture.

King Florent Rebuffs Ombre

The negotiated settlement between House Ombre and the Regalian State has been made public knowledge these past two weeks. The main points are understood to have been:
- That House Ombre submit to a 30,000 regal fine to the State;
- In return, Lord Chancellor Delmotte would design a new position to be the Ambassador to the Kingdom of Ithania;
- Additionally, the State would endeavor to avail the Ithanian government to cede the remains of the late Queen and if successful;
- Turn over said royal remains to the 'Southern-City States'.
Now, to the conduct of the matriarch of House Ombre, a principle negotiator and failed representative of the City-States, surely she must have been disappointed by the outcome but not as much as her constituents. While it is commendable that she strove for the return of the late Queen's remains, it is not comforting that failure produces ill-results. It must be hoped that the next negotiations between the King and any personages of the Archipelago will be more amicable and productive.

Spring Comes Soon

Spending time in La Portée du Paradis is always a pleasure, especially in the spring when the flowers bloom and the city comes to life more so than it is in the winter season. The fields of l'Île du Paradis are always paintable and lovers and friends alike enjoy the shade of l'Arc de Chrysant when the sun bears down. However, one phenomenon always oscillates with the seasons: fashion. As spring balls begin to appear on mailing lists to celebrate upcoming Goodwill Day, the Spring Festival, and especially Mother's Day, the tailors are once again swarmed with orders. I have it on good authority that pale violet red and lemon chiffon is the color combination of the spring. However, if that doesn't suit you as some young women who seek to make their mark here do, one could wear sea green and steel blue. Gloves to the elbow this spring are a must. Happy entertaining!

Sixth Edict Opinions
~ Juan de Cueño
16 February
{This opinion editorial concerns the recent sixth edict of Lord Chancellor Delmotte}
Article I: The 'Clicker' menace is, I am sure, being dealt with appropriately by the State. While precautions and prudence should remain the norm for the time being, I do not consider the threat to be potent in force as of this last month.
Article II: As magic was addressed by the Emperor himself and the Lord Chancellor has legally conducted the auction of magical artifacts, I consider this a moot point. Unworthy of further discussion.
Article III: I denounce the adoption of Puretek for war as an affront to cultured sensibilities of Regalia, Ithania, and Daendroque. The production of this technology on a scale hitherto unseen for the purpose of warfare will ultimately corrupt and decay the virile sense of honor among men, where fighting with blades and siege produces such. To be sure, I am not opposed to the creation and utilization of technology for the purpose of peace and prosperity - trade that is vital to the Empire and its Commonwealth. Nor am I against warfare to the chagrin of my Ithanian associates. But what I am against, to which I will fight with vim and vigor, is the destruction of what makes men virile, honorable and competent. I ask those who support adoption: how will shooting our enemy from afar equal the results obtained from up close? How accurate will these rifles be? And how will we prevent criminals and saboteurs from selling out these precious possessions, not only to our enemies but also to rebels?
I further ask the State whether it has considered the possibility of rebellions armed with this weaponry. And if by excluding peasantry from these weapons, to which they might benefit in hunting and self-defense on our imperial frontiers, how then can they possibly resist enemy, who may one day have puretek of their own, manœvers via guerilla tactics? (For clarification I was thinking of our Daen populations principally). Or even to resist an illegitimate government such as Anahera's? And if peasantry are permitted access and possession of such technology, to what class must they be limited? Surely the State will not trust an Orc or a Songaskian, both First Civil Status, with such destructive potential.
What then of the Peers of the Realm? Recognizing the noble right to wage war, I fear much ruination of ailor shall occur in the next noble wars of all against all. Will we be able to later name ourselves a society when we kill each other from afield? I doubt it. But there is hope in this scenario: that a universal noble compact forbid the bellicose usage of puretek against each other.
I return then to the impugning of our shared culture of honor and soldierly men. Men of a puretek future will have no need for bladesmanship. Thereafter cavalry will cease. From there jousts and tournaments, and lastly the masculine core of society, where brave warriors originate in the first place.
I formerly referred to the cultured sensibilities of Regalia and Ithania. Both I opine could learn from each other. The Regalian State could learn instead of pouring thousands into producing and maintaining antagonistic weaponry, to develop diplomatic bonds for the suppression of this puretek. Perhaps greater trade may flow forth from such beginnings; while the Ithanian Kingdom could learn to become more belligerent in its self-defense against the Kathar and other hostiles.
Continuing the thread of diplomacy, as I am not one to reveal flaws without providing solutions, the Regalian State could enhance its reputation as a Great Power through pursuing, if not the integration of the Elven principalities, then the suppression, forbearance, and interdiction of puretek arms. The Empire is mighty because of its wealth, manpower, and robustness of industry and culture. Let not this be decayed but enhanced.

As always, if you wish to subscribe to be automatically sent this, just ping me in a response to the newspaper (please try to keep it IC but if you're at a loss to how your character would respond, you can simply ping).
As was aforementioned in the Presentation, this paper is roleplayed to already have been well-established in Ithania and is now making the jump to the Archipelago. Professional translators have worked hard to bring accurate copies in Anglian, d'Ithanie, and Common so you may roleplay reading the paper in those languages if you'd like. If your character speaks Alt-Regalian they'll have to subscribe to get one of the few copies printed in that language
Thank you again and Happy Reading!
