The Order of Therin​

The Order of Therin is a Unionist religious order based in Crookback Bay, founded by the undead priestess and mystic, Mother Alexi. Uninterested in a life spent in quiet praise, the Order instead seeks theosis, the elevation of the soul in image of the Divine. The Order pursues this not merely through the accumulation of sorcerous power, as might the Nonnateans, but also through the wholesale embrace of transformative affliction.

Highest among these modes of ascension is Undeath, a state which the Order asserts is brought about by the will of the Imperial Spirit itself. Indeed, it is from the undead son of the last Ivrae emperor that the Order takes its name.

The Order makes its home in the Church of the Helping Hand, a derelict abbey which overlooks Crookback Bay. Though internally focused on spiritual matters, the Order does not withdraw from public life in Crookback. Instead, the members of the Order provide their services as healers, exorcists, and undertakers. Nothing is done gratis, however. Not even the dead work for free, and the Creeds warn of the dangers of a laity growing overly dependent.

Structure​

Members of the Order of Therin are arranged into a simple hierarchy. While respect is demanded of each to their superiors, the Order does not require absolute obedience to any but the Reverend Mother.

Abbess
The highest authority of the order, Reverend Mother Alexi Petralia

Prior
The right hand of the Reverend Mother. An avowed ascetic trusted with authority over their spiritual siblings.

Brother/Sister/Sibling
Members of the order who have undertaken vows, cementing their commitment to the Imperial Spirit.

Oblate
Members of the order who assist in the Order's worldly goals, but who either did not yet, or do not wish to, undertake the Order's vows. An Oblate is considered adjacent to the siblings of the Order, rather than below them.

Postulant
An aspiring member in a probationary state. A postulant is one who has either not yet undertaken vows, or not yet been approved as an Oblate.

EDIT DISCLOSURES (2020-12-17): I am in the process of having my character sheet re-reviewed. I do not anticipate that this will create significant changes to this application, other than it may increase her medical science stat from 14 to 15 if approved. • Character Description: I think Ana is best described through her actions. Ana is the kind of person to visit graves that seem to have no visitors. She would offer tea to a stranger for their company. She fails to take action when forced to pick sides. She makes other people's problems her own. She turns to Unionist faith for salvation but remains open-minded. She is fond of youth for their dependency and elders for their wisdom. She would not mind dining with a sanguine if it meant she would learn their nature. This is subject to change as I explore her personality and see what design would provide more diverse experiences for the roleplay community.

• Relevant Skills: Ana is a trained practitioner that primarily uses traditional medical healing (medical science +14). She has basic training in lightness sorcery (lightness sorcery +3), but would not disclose or use this openly unless in dire situations. She is more specialized in Altalar and Ailor healing than other races. While Ana has not practiced formally as a healer for several months, she maintains her skills at home should there, one day, be a need for it. Ana has experience preparing bodies for burial, following Unionism theologies, and keeping gravesites in modest condition (gardening art +6). When required, Ana can be a compassionate listener, making her an ideal person to go to for the Church's counselling services. Ana worries deeply for the well-being of all and would be suitable to provide care for the orphaned or homeless.

Dear Mother Alexi,

Stone tells me you are a devout Unionist whom I should seek out for religious enlightening. I believe I owe you more apologies than the one I have given. You being 'thick-skulled' as you put it, does not excuse me from the looks I have given you or the crude words I have said, and I'd like to take this opportunity to make amends.

Since my embarkation in Regalia, I have moved from church to church, keeping graveyards in modest condition and helping visitors find their loved ones' graves. I have learned the process of body preparation, the meaning behind funeral prayers, and the impacts of grief and suffering. I find myself in the tough position of finding a church whose community I'd like to serve, and I would be humbled if the Church of the Helping Hand would lend me the opportunity to be of service to the Crookback community

My one request is that my work with you, should you have me, remain private. I do not wish for Stone or Travaisel, the man whose torn shoulder you healed, to know where I wander or whose wounds I tend to. I will offer you all that I can give if you can honour my wish.
