The Last Witch Hunter: To Capture A Mage

To late did Cedric realize that he had thrown the grenade too hard. The lapis grenade went spinning right into the hearth were a blazing fire had just been brought to life. It laid there for less than a second and then the grenade exploded sending blue dust puffing out from the fire. Unfortunately the majority of the lapis dust had been incinerated by the fire, but fortunately Jonny was sitting right by the fire, and got a mouthful of the dust. Jonny toppled out of his chair violently coughing. The fire suddenly leapt higher in the hearth as it began to feed off of the lapis dust. In an instant the innkeeper was yelling, his wife and he ran into the kitchen, while the man that Cedric had seen at dinner pulled a dagger from a sheath in his boot and ran over to guard Jonny. Cedric dramatically walked down the steps with sabre in hand. "Run Jonny!" cried the innkeeper. Jonny was starting to recover from his coughing fit, but even in his weakened state Jonny had an angry fire in his eyes. Suddenly Cedric wished he had worn his special boiled leather armor. Jonny stood, raised his arms, and started screaming in a foreign tongue. Cedric was not about to wait and see if the lapis grenade had done its trick. He reached down and grabbed a wooden chair that had been precariously thrown to the floor earlier that evening. Cedric could feel the air heating, and saw fire begin to pool in the air before Jonny. Cedric didn't waste another moment as he then chucked the chair at Jonny. The man with the dagger screamed "No!" and leaped in the path of the chair. With a sickening crunch the man collapsed with the chair. Now the only thing the man and the chair had in common was they were both lying shattered on the floor. Jonny did not stop casting, and now a fireball large enough to consume Cedric was about to be launched.

The door to the inn was smashed off its hinges, sending it flying a few feet inside. Grunt surveyed what was happening through his dull eyes, and fixed Jonny with his angry look. Grunt the orc roared angrily and charged Jonny head on. He did not seem to notice the fire as he stormed through it. Jonny was lifted off his feet when the orc rammed him, and was thrown backwards. Luckily for Jonny he was not thrown into the fire, but he was slammed into the wall where he crumpled and did not move. There was no sound in the inn now, except for the crackling fire that was consuming pieces of wood that had fallen into it. Cedric strode over to Jonny, and patted Grunt on his way there. He unclipped his restraints from his belt and cuffed Jonny's limp wrists together. Cedric was about to allow himself to say some snappy catchphrase, when the innkeeper's wife charged out of the kitchen with a club, and gave Grunt a large thwack with it. Grunt being 7 feet tall, and the innkeeper's wife being 5 feet 4 inches, she only hit him on his turned back. Orc turned and asked her, "Grunt?" The innkeeper's wife screamed loud enough to wake Jonny, and then she went flying past Cedric back into the kitchen.

Jonny was gasping for breath, since being rammed by an orc is not considered to be the most pleasant experience. Cedric looked the boy over, "You probably have a few broken ribs. Try not to move, boy." Jonny though in great pain gasped out, "I am seventeen. A man already. Don't call me boy." Jonny was close to unconsciousness, but Cedric leaned forward anyways and said, "Age does not make a man, but experience does." Jonny was already unconscious. People began to trickle out of their rooms and down the steps, finally having enough courage to see what was happening. There were gasps, and "Oh my", and the occasional drunken slurs directed at the witch hunter and his orc. "C'mon Grunt, The Grand Vigil of the Azure Order will be pleased to receive this one." Cedric then cockily marched out the door, but returned a few minutes later to retrieve his clothes, and then more humbly walked out. Cedric and Grunt went to the stables to mount their horses. Well Cedric had a horse, while Grunt had a stocky pony. Nothing else could bear his heavy weight. Cedric had draped Jonny over the back of his horse like a sack of apples, and then had fastened him down using rope that he found in the stables. Cedric gracefully leapt up to his horse, but it took Grunt three attempts before he could comfortably sit on his pony. The two began the week long trip to the Ithanian capital of Havenreach. There Cedric hoped to find one of his old informants, to assist him in returning Jonny to his rightful place. They trotted out of town with the sun beginning to rise at their backs.
