The Nekht Ȧteb (Black Tongue), so-called due to the long strip of black fabric they wore at their fronts, were a mercenary band composed almost entirely of laypeople led by Sálspati. Prior to their reformation as the Khamáafut and service to Clan Morathes they made their earnings protecting ships and caravans in contested regions of Daen and Daenshore. The Black Tongue’s final job took them from the Brother Kingdoms to South Rivel, where leadership and members of the company split to serve Clan Morathes on a permanent basis. The Clan’s ascension to the upper echelons of nobility has necessitated new hiring and vetting of capable fighters for use in defense both domestic and abroad. The Khamáafut, while primarily tasked to defend the honor and safety of the house they serve, may find themselves contracted for war and glory.

Some members of these warrior bands are descended from Selk, one of Bahiti's children, and his partner Baraka. They could effectively be considered a vassal house sworn to protect the interests and members of Clan Morathes in exchange for goods, land, lodging, and financial compensation.

The Khamáafut’s service is predicated on loyalty either to the individual in the case of their employer, or the money and opportunity they provide. Beyond this they have a focus on presentation and professionalism. Their arms and armor, whether produced by themselves or bought, are a representation of their brothers-in-arms and their employer. Every gleaming shield and sharp-edged sword should exemplify these traits, and every enemy dead is an example of why their pay is what it is.

    • House Guards are granted lesser armor permits (and may cover up to 50% of their body in armor), and weapon permits when in the presence of their noble charge.
    • At direction of a Titleholder, guards may detain an individual for 3 days following any crime committed against their noble charge.
The Khamáafut also operate under a loose code of conduct.
    • To serve Clan Morathes and the Heri-tchatcha with valor and faith.
    • To guard the honor of fellow Khamáafut and Clan Members.
    • To defend against weakness and deceit.
    • To never turn one’s back on a foe.
    • To uplift the Khamáafut and perform exemplary service.

The Khamáafut are divided more by personal difference than they are rank, but in the heat of battle when a decision needs to be made there has to be at least one head to turn to.

    Heri-tchatcha | Commander-in-Chief
The Heri-tchatcha is the commander of the Khamáafut and is expected to impart their fighting skills and knowledge onto the rest of the guard.

    Arihat | Captain
A step below the Commander is the Captain, who serves in place of the Commander during absences. They're largely responsible for maintaining discipline and training new recruits.

    Saew | Guard
The rank and file of the House Guard, afforded no real expectation beyond the defense of their brothers-in-arms and Clan Members.

    To Thabit son of Nkosi,

Your age is the least of our concern. So long as you are capable and willing to serve we will have you. Join us at the Erntehaus Estate at your earliest convenience so we might test you and see whether you are fit for service.

    May Nebapehty Guide Your Steps,
    Duke Nefer shel Morathes
