Well before the first records of Triad activity in the Sihai Free-Ports, the Triads claim an ancient story brought about their origins--
In the Early Kingdom Period legend tells of a brave warrior by the name of Wa-Liang, who was among the first to be blessed with the form of the War Dynasty upon the lunar cycle. He fought the dark beings with honour upon the field of battle, and his form was said to be unrivaled. Upon the eve of victory, he and his followers were invited to the court of the King of Xx'en -- being men of Tan, honourable and just in their war-like ways, they accepted expecting a grand feast to rival the centuries. When they arrived there was much joviality, and the feast began; in horror, Wa-Liang's men watched on as the brave warrior's throat was diced by the blade of a lowly Xx'en warrior. The first death of the traitorous Xx'en conquests. Fighting broke out in the feasting hall, and all but three of the warriors of Tan survived; they roamed the lands to gather those honourable, so that the evils of Xx'en may never be exerted again. These men would later form the first Triad. - a verbal tale passed down through the Triad.
This ancient tale though differing over the years, is the foundation of the triads sense of hypocritical honour. When the Triad first arrived in Regalia amid the harsh winter of 301AC, what they had called the 'Gold Mountain' (or Regalia) was as alien to them as the smoldering ruins of the Southern Kingdom. A land of strangely dressed men, a city of reflecting gold, and amid the slums to which they arrived, races from around the western world for whom the Sihai were at first repulsed by. The Jade Kalmian served as their initial front, a restaurant whose questionable take on Sihai cuisine was widely accepted by the lower echelon of Regalian society -- and a place where dealings of a clandestine nature could be made from the back rooms of privacy.
The men of the triad (Sometimes referred to as the Jiù Jīnshān, or the Jīnshān for short) are as would be expected predominantly Sihai. Despite the racial roots of the gang, many non-sihai find their place within the order. Orcs as muscle, Ailor as local voices, Nelfin and even sometimes Yanar as arcane advisors. The Triad is nothing but pragmatic in its dealings, and though it values its roots within the Sihai Empire, it does not allow such origins to hold it back from growth.
