WANTED CRIMINAL: SYLAS ATWOOD
~ 16 July, 307
~ 16 July, 307
One Sylas Atwood is to be apprehended on sight and brought to the Violet Order, dead or alive. He is wanted for the kidnapping of Madame Haeddi Harhold that occurred just yesterday and which was swiftly resolved as we can always expect of our law enforcement. It is unknown at this time who specifically retrieved Madame Harhold, although it is understood that House Harhold, moments after the notice was published, announced a bounty of 100 regals which was further supplemented by the Violet Order's own bounty of 500 regals. It was at this collective sum of 600 regals that His Grace Duke Hengest Harhold placed a 2,000 regal bounty for the return of his kin. As mentioned before, it remains unknown who claimed this 2,600 regal bounty. Nevertheless, we are glad for the return of Madame Harhold and wish her well.
NEW SECRETARY OF FINANCE IMPLEMENTS POLICIES; HALTS PAYMENTS TO ALTALAR
~ 16 July, 307
~ 16 July, 307
The newly appointed Secretary of Finance, His Grace Archduke Louis Delmotte, has announced fresh initiatives to balance the Imperial Treasury and maintain the solvency of the Empire; they are designed as follows:
"Management of State Funds
- All expenditures by other secretaries must be directed through the Secretary of Finance, who will determine where the state's finances are best spent.
- Upon request, the Secretary of Finance may delegate spending of state funds to other secretaries, which they may spend on an agreed plan.
- All spending of state funds must be recorded in a weekly report, which is to be sent to the Secretary of Finance each Friday for review.
- A trial system where title-holders, aristocratic family heads, the clergy, and other secretaries may assemble and propose economic reforms and new taxes, will be running once every two weeks in the assembly hall.
- Aristocratic families, after paying Levy or State tax for three consecutive weeks, will be permitted to have house guards equipped with non-military grade armaments.
- Aristocratic families who refuse to pay any taxes are hereby barred from operating any organization in the capital city. This includes heading knightly chapters.
- Noble families, after paying levy tax for two consecutive weeks, will be permitted to have house guards equipped with military-grade armaments, on the property the noble family owns.
(B.) This is only applicable if the noble family is also paying Imperial and State tax.
(C.) This is only applicable for as long as the noble family continues paying Levy tax.
- Noble families who pay neither the State or Levy tax will forfeit their privilege of being permitted to have armed house guards in the city of Regalia.
In order to put the grant of expanded privileges into effect, the Patriarch/Matriarch of the family must acquire a signature from the Secretary of Finance and then permission from the Lord Commander."
HOUSE ROTE SPLITS; DENOUNCES HOUSE TYPHONUS
~ 18 July, 307
~ 18 July, 307
In a denouncement published by Thea Rote, formerly of House Typhonus, the Rote branch of Typhonus seceded from the family line and lodged accusations against the Typhonus line.
"To Regalia's peerage, and the commoners of the city, House Rote has officially decided to disband from under the Typhonus banner and reclaim their name, home, and honor back as commonfolk.
We hereby denounce the Typhonus name and their family for the sake of the wellbeing of Griptham, the Rote's lineage, and our sanity. Living under a strict banner of conservativity extremely limited us in our ability to voice our opinions, praise the spirit openly, and to live our lives as we see fit. All former Rotes, now Typhonus, are fully welcome to join us in our departure, as we fully accept the responsibilities of leaving our noble house and reinstating our original family line. In the name of Abelhard Rote, our previous patriarch and loving brother, we will continue his lineage, his family name, and his legacy as House Rote. Commoner or not, we stand together, and in the name of the Spirit, we will continue to fight for Regalia and it's people, with or without the luxuries of nobility. May the Spirit guide you all in your journey, it was a pleasure to be among the peerage, but it seems our time has run out.
Those following in the newly reinstated Rote house are:
Theadora Victoria Margery Rote
Leopold Diggory Rote
Elizabeth Rote
Caspian Rote
Any and all wishing to follow us are welcome, merely make yourselves known."
It is assumed that Leopold Rote, former Count of Griptham, has abdicated his title. Thea Rote has decided to remain within the Violet Order, but recognizes the possible loss of her rank as Crown Protector, as well as her Knightly Title. Caspian Rote's betrothal to Madame Haeddi Harhold is also presumably dissolved.
BLACKHAWKS WANTED FOR TREASON
~ 19 July, 307
~ 19 July, 307
For crimes committed against the good Archduke Delmotte and his family, the whole of the Blackhawks are wanted by the Violets on orders of Commander Rodrigo Peirgarten. His missive states the following:
"With the word of the Commander Rodrigo Peirgarten, the entire Blackhawks Syndicate and all of their members, as well as close associates, are here and forth charged with treason. All of their members, followers and supporters are to turn themselves in to Violet Order custody within the following 24 hours, and if they neglect to do such they will then be charged additionally with Regalian Law 17, which details the criminality of resisting arrest and attempting to escape punishment.
The leader of the now dishonored Blackhawks, Cael Ladveer, is especially to turn himself in for arrest on grounds of treason. Failure to do so will see his punishment elevated to severe consequences and morbid bodily injuries that he cannot go back from, once caught.
Furthermore, since we have no faith that the members of the Blackhawks will actually be willing to turn themselves in, like the cowards they have proven themselves to be many times over, we will also be creating a bounty backed by the Archduke of Basta, the victim of these dishonorable crimes committed against the safety of him, his house, and the well being of his children.
- Cael Ladveer, Leader of the Blackhawks, a figure usually dressed in a robe and mask but actually suiting the description of a greying brown haired old man with a wooden prosthetic and green eyes, is wanted for five thousand regals, the reward being the offer from the Archduke of Basta.
- Any other known members, followers, supporters, and even sympathizers of the Blackhawks, are wanted for one hundred regals each on their heads, the reward being the offer from the Violet Order. Any one of these dishonorable curs captured may then be brought to Greygate to suffer their rightful punishment."
Question One: How did you come up with the idea to tax the nobility and aristocrats for expanded house guard rights?
"We're in the midst of a war with the most dangerous enemy that the Empire has faced to date, and it's not as if we're winning by a landslide - or at all for that matter. The 'The Tax for Arms' scheme is a temporary method to raise funds for armaments and resources to better improve our chances at victory. As of current, the state is expending all of its revenue and is only breaking even, and that's exactly what this plan hopes to amend; acquiring a surplus of funding so that in the event that something goes terribly wrong we're prepared to respond and easily bounce back."
Question Two: How do you think the common folk can get involved in the war effort?
"Its as easy as signing up to serve. If for whatever reason someone is incapable of serving as a soldier, whether it be from a lack of experience or a disability, donations are equally appreciated. Those who act patriotically will not soon be forgotten, and I urge everyone to help - An inch of support can go a mile."
Question Three: Are there any specific ways the businesspeople, in particular, can help?
"As detailed in my recent amendment to 'The Tax and Arms Scheme' businessmen and the aristocracy can pledge support by donating funding, which they will, in turn, be rewarded for."
Question Four: What are your hopes and goals to achieve in your position as Secretary of Finance?
"I can only hope that my position as Secretary of Finance will bring about an economic boom that rivals those of the past."
Question Five: Does the permission to have house guards with non-military grade weaponry become taken from Aristocrats on refusal to pay taxes?
"Aristocrats aren't required to pay any taxes to the Emperor, State or Army whatsoever, but at the same time, they're also not entitled to armed house guards under the usual circumstances. Having house guards as an Aristocrat is only a privilege that they can acquire while actively paying tax unless of course, the Lord Chancellor deems otherwise."
Question Six: What does the future hold in your position? Any light you can shed on what's next from the Finance Office?
"I'm unable to comment or make promises for plans of the future without first consulting my peers and the Lord Chancellor. The duties of my position often intertwine with the other secretaries, so it's difficult to predict what's to come."
Question Seven: How do you feel of your son's success at Court?
"I'm proud. As any father should be. I can only hope that his service to the Emperor leaves a positive impact."
Question Eight: What are your thoughts on the treason laws just passed by the Lord Chancellor?
"As long as they work appropriately then I have no issue with them. Her eminence the Lord Chancellor is capable enough to determine if changes are needed based on the data that's coming in."
Question Nine: Any big plans for your son, Marceau?
"Well, he's my heir. The future Archduke of Basta & Irvelle. But other than that? No."
- Is he not the future Baron of la Cresse as well? Or will you retain that title and pass the Archduchy?
"He is."
- How do you feel about his spot on the Lord Chancellor's Advisory Committee?
"Good on him, I suppose. I know that he'll do well."
- Any other thoughts to wrap up?
His Grace shook his head.
