What is the Helerian Guard Order?​

The Helerian Guard Order is a brotherhood of Unionists that dedicate themselves to the protection and safeguarding of Unionism. The order is stylized like a regular military retinue and is expected to uphold similar standards of quality. The command of the order is filled with pious Unionists and exemplary men of the order as leadership is based on meritocracy rather than birth. Though, those of noble birth who join are regularly treated with higher regard than commoners. The rank and file of the order is oft occupied by either graduated men of the School of Lancyon or those in training under the Helerian Guard to protect the Synod. Graduates are easily inducted into the ranks due to the lack of necessity for training.

After being officially recognized by the emperor in 98 AC, the Helerian Guard Order has faithfully served the synod. Usually taking commands from the Supreme Reverend himself both in regards to the safety of hallowed grounds and holy laws, but also in times of war to be stationed under the command of a Unionist general. Though the order is also semi-autonomous, it takes heed of its sacred duty to safeguard Unionism within Regalia and the Synod.

Organizational Structure​

Supreme Reverend
As ordained by the Holy Sancella of Union, the Supreme Reverend is an outside official of the Helerian Guard. Though not carrying authority over the lower ranks, the Supreme Reverend gives orders, direction, and religious guidance to the Helerian Commander. On the authority of the Supreme Reverend, he has some right to dismiss and appoint the Helerian Commander if they do not meet the needs of the Holy Sancella.

The Helerian Commander
The official head of the Helerian Guard, they are in charge of enforcing the will of the Synod within the order. They negotiate with other parties and charters amongst other duties. They are the sole authority within the order, and the only one who may permit or dismiss officers.

Lieutenant Commander
The Lieutenant Commanders of the Order are charged with all matters concerning raids and training, ensuring that all within the Order act in strict accordance to the code whilst on duty. They reserve the right to personally punish guardsmen who break the code or act outside of Regalian Holy Law. They are part of the Commander's small council and the rank is the highest officer position one can attain within the Order.

Chaplain
The Chaplain(s) are a sect of the guard force specializing in Sanktist or Rettist skill sets. They are usually elected by the Sancella themselves, and have no authority within the ranks other than to assist troops in the field with combat and religious guidance. Though they can be ignored when giving orders, it may be prudent to follow them if no commander is present.

Captain
Captains are expected to make decisions in the city and give direct orders to those beneath them. Captains are expected to take up a recruit as mentorship, and have full authority to take command when no higher ranking individual is present. Captains also are allowed to accept someone's initiation rights and recruit for the Order.

Corporal
From the rank of Corporal one becomes an officer, which means they can give orders to ranks below, as well as take upon themselves a specific function such as Flag Bearer, Quartermaster, or Master of Ceremonies.

Hallebardier
Hallebardier are a step up from Acolytes, nominally a first among equals with Acolytes and may take command during emergency situations. While the rank does not innately offer advantages they are more likely to be listened to and trusted with sensitive tasks by their superiors. Nominally considered a full fledged member of the Order, any rank above Hallebardier requires a Sacrament of Entry to be performed.

Acolyte
Acolytes are the strength and muscle of the Helerian Guard Order. They are either promoted Conscripts or graduates of the School of Lancyon. These individuals, which make up almost the entire Guard, are tasked with patrolling hallowed grounds, searching for possible signs of vampirism, or any breaking of Holy Law. If found, Acolytes are charged with neutralizing, detaining and punishing individuals according to their own judgement.

Conscript
Conscripts are new members who have not yet been initiated or trained at all, and unaware of formations. Conscripts however can still be called to action if lack of manpower becomes apparent. Conscripts must have 10 proficiency in any combat skill to be ascended to Acolyte.

Note to those applying: Both in uniform and out of uniform, any member is a representative of the organization. Whether IC or OOC they are expected to withhold a standard similar to any guard in roleplay. All Helerians are to be the pillars of the community and to become a standard of the community. But on the street you're not required to adhere strictly to law. You should be more focused on providing a fun roleplay for others to join. Thus, you'll likely be on your own or in a pair - as a mass group of Helerians is no fun to roleplay with. A Helerian should strive to become an interesting character that does not need their hand held throughout their roleplay while working within the organization.
