Information from this World event goes into effect 24 hours after this post has been made. The information is not available and the characters should not return to regalia with knowledge of the outcome.
The response of the Regalian Empire to the invasion came no less than a week after the Qadir had taken the Rim Isles. The Regalian fleet levied a total of 20,000 troops, led by a variety of nobles and military personnel alike to the Isles for a counter attack. The blockade made way for the transports, and before long the Regalian troops managed to land on the coastline of the southern island on the Rim. The immediate threat the Regalians faced before they could set up a stronghold and recapture castles, were the roughly 12,500 Qadir troops split over various strong points around the landscape. Ulric Typhonus ordered a split of the army, favoring 4000 troops on his kinsman Liam typhonus, 5000 on Julian Kade to represent the Kades, 3000 to Mathias Paschen, 5000 to Gustavo Anahera and finally 3000 Christopher Black. These armies individually outnumbered their opponents on every field, but the numbers were proportionately in favor of some of the armies. After all the officers and tacticians were divided among the armies, it came to much of a shock for the Red family that they had been completely shut out of the battles. The Red family's present members were confined to a supply train at the back, far away from any battles to be able to exert any influence on anything.
The first battle led by Liam Typhonus was on a small town called Steinberg. Steinberg was a small Rim town which held 2,500 Qadir defenders. Liam Typhonus was supported by his kin Maximillian Typhonus as a tactician, and had family friends Jared Silverhand and Marek Dredros as bodyguards to ensure his own safety. Maximillian Typhonus, despite being a talented tactician, made a tactical error to order a direct assault, falsely believing in the direct superiority of the Regalian artillery batteries and the courage of the front line troops. The frontal assault suffered heavy casualties as the Qadir had mounted smaller cannons on top of houses for support fire, a small Qadir design that was unknown to the Regalian army. These smaller cannons shot shrapnel or cannon balls around the town, crashing into buildings and causing severe casualties on the first army. Marek Dredros in particular took a heavy hit, a cannonball crashing into a building near him that collapsed on top of him. Marek Dredros was carried off the battlefield bloodied and with nearly every limb broken. He would not return for the rest of the war. Liam Typhonus meanwile picked up the pieces with Jared Silverhand and both fought excellently to make up for the mistakes made by Maxmillian. After several hours of fighting in the streets, the Qadir sounded the retreat horn and the Regalian troops were victorious, claiming the town, but at heavy costs.
The second battle led by Julian Kade happened in a small valley between Steinberg and the hill towards Kreutzfeld Castle. The valley itself was similarly defended by 2,500 Qadir troops who lined up fairly equally to the opposing 5000 Kade led troops. The Kade host was supported by Thomas Kade and Ludwig Fuchs, both as tacticians. Thomas Kade was further assigned three guards, being Shayin Crassanm Tristan Lamperouge and Tevlos Vanimba. Julian had no further bodyguards. The battle started with Thomas making a series of errors when instructing the skirmishers on the front lines without their pavise report. The disorderly return of the troops after losses from Qadir mages caused Thomas to make further and further error, until he was removed from the command post by a coercing Shayin Crassan and a more forceful Ludwig Fuchs. Ludwig Fuchs managed to successfully turn the situation around, and competently used the cavalry at their disposal to collapse the Qadir flanks. The battle was swiftly won, Julian distinguishing himself as a competent officer once more as he managed to break the center line without any additional support. The group had however suffered losses due to Thomas's errors, proportionately higher than the Qadir. The Qadir chose to retreat to the hill to reinforce another army there that was to defend against Mathias Paschen's army.
Mathias Paschen was effectively outnumbered due to the reinforced army of the Qadir on the slopes of the mountain. A direct assault would have resulted in severe losses for the army, something Harald Fuchs instructed the troops to do. Mathias Paschen in a stroke of brilliance sacked his tactician immediately, and ordered his artillery support to shoot at the mountains above the enemy positions. Soon when the cannon fire hit the rock, the layers shifted loose and a true avalanche of rocks dashed down the mountain, crushing the Qadir army underneath who had dug in among the rocks to defend the slope. This brilliant move was followed up by Mathias himself and his bodyguard Cassius Paloin charging at what little was left of the Qadir defence, in what effectively became a cleaning up operation. They mercilessly slew the Qadir present, wiping out nearly the entire enemy host with not even as much as 50 casualties. It is arguable whether Mathias's choice to blow up the mountain pass to the castle resulted in the losses of the subsequent battles, but for the time being, insurmountable glory had been attained by the Paschen house.
Gustavo Anahera's 4th army was tasked with the assault on the castle itself while Christopher Black circled around with the 5th army, intent on attacking the Qadir supply trains. Gustavo's attack on the castle ended up in a complete disaster, despite the attempts of Graeton Pileran to correctly instruct the troops to make sure of the hidden passages and sewers to rally into the castle during the siege. Confusing and plain contradicting orders issued by Alexander Smiter who clearly had never been in any position to lead anyone, caused the army to clash with itself in numerous cases, firing volleys of arrows at its ranks and retreating when victory was near Gustavo Anahera meanwhile ordered the retreat as the attack had become too disorderly to continue against the castle. Tobias Firehold was severely founded, hit by several arrows in the back. He was incapacitated from the rest of the war and sent back to Regalia to recover. Rently Reyers distinguished himself well as a bodyguard of Gustavo, shielding him from several arrows with his shield that would certainly have hit Gustavo and potentially even killed him.
Christopher Black attacked the supply train on land, Terrain not entirely familiar for the noble. It also didn't help that his army was tactically supported by someone who had no schooling in tactics and was unknown to everyone. The frontal assault was taken by surprise by the large Qadir force that laid in waiting. The Black led army suffered an absolutely terrible defeat, nearly half the army was killed and a retreat was called for within 20 minutes of the fight's start. Christopher Black fought valiantly, saving many soldiers from certain death and escaping with the rest of his troops. he even managed to prevent his Bodyguard William Helios from being wounded, an ironic outcome as William Helios had actually been contracted to protect Christopher instead.
With the attack on the supply train defeated and the Qadir castle held, the full plan that Ulric had laid out did not come to fruition. Ulric tried in vain to rally the troops for a second attack against the castle, but failed after suffering minimal losses and simply calling the retreat. Cedric Kade made no real effort this battle, having a large ballista projectile grazing past his head leaving but a little cut on his cheek, but a much larger dent in his bravery. Lysander Lamperouge on the other hand made a glorious attempt and succeeded at saving Ulric's life when he was about to be hit by a cannon ball. Lysander saw the wall mounted cannoneer aim at Ulric, throwing himself on top of Ulric who was with his back aimed to the wall instructing the troops. This move saved Ulric's life, as the cannon ball hit but meters behind them, certainly having hit Ulric in the back if Lysander has not come in between, resulting instead in a mere splash of mud and flying dust.
Ulric eventually called the retreat as the assault seemed once again pointless, satisfied that Steinberg had been captured and a foothold had been created for more Regalian reinforcements. No doubt the Qadir would once again strike to chase the Regalians back into the sea, so the defenders prepared themselves for the defence while sending the ships back to Regalia for additional troop transports.
In Regalia the news of the battles had meanwhile been well received. The court was heard to be displeased with the continued persistence of noble rivalry even in the war against the enemy that should have united them, but commended the Paschen family on their notable presence and actions. Any further sign ups for the war would be redirected to Ulric Typhonus, who would continue to recruit talented individuals for the war.
