Do you people agree that no matter how good a faction, it will always fall eventually? I have played about a year and seen many rise and fall but I wonder how it always seems to happen. What are your thoughts on this?

-raises hand slowly- Yes... Always. I hope Mithril won't fall for a long time. I've been in a few abandoned factions, to the point where I was forced to lead it. All my friends left and it just went to Hell in a hand basket. It's really sad, too. I've been in what... four during my time on this server and I've been on roughly 9-10 months, probably less. I dunno. It sucks.

It really does depend on wether the leader will be there for the long run.
If he goes inactive or away and doesn't have a good heir then the faction will just collapse.
My faction is 1 year and 4 months old, the reason it stayed alive was because the leader never got auto kicked and he gave its leader ship to someone else(me)
A factions fall can also be caused by every officer in the world wanting to start their own faction rather than work towards a great one or them rather wanting to run away from the problem instead of fixing it. The reason my faction survived this long was because it had loyal officers, without them you're at square one.

Okay, I've been on for roughly a year and 8 months, and here's what I've seen so far. There are two main types of factions, burn-outs and stable ones. Burn-outs will usually fall rather quickly, but stable factions can often survive upwards of six months, some living for years while undergoing dormant and active phases.

Burn-outs are factions that usually last 1-3 months, and are active for about 1 of those months. You can usually tell if its a burn-out faction if the leader/most of the officers are relatively new to the server, and the faction has a surprising amount of people for its age. Like if a faction's 1 week old but has around 20 people or so. While burn-out factions may look healthy, with often more than 5 people online at a time, this is usually due to the fact that they undergo a spurt of recruiting as the officers are still active. After around a month, the faction almost immediately drops dead as the first generation of officers go inactive and the leader, unused to losing members, either rage-quits or becomes depressed and can't handle recruiting more members. Burn-out factions can rarely transition into a stable faction, but only if the leader is extremely lucky or has had a lot of experience with leading factions on other servers.

Stable factions are an entirely different thing to burn-outs, mainly as they usually last more than 6 months. Stable factions are usually extremely hard to "kill" as their leaders are usually active and dedicated members of the community. Even if the faction loses around 99% of its members, the leader may occasionally simply go on a hiatus and come back dedicated to bringing the faction back into its former glory. Stable factions usually have 20-30 members, but some may have more than 50. Unsurprisingly, factions with more than 50 members will often not go inactive for a rather long time, gathering enough momentum among its officers to keep up a relatively steady stream of new recruits.

@SaintsDemon I loved Algaron's architecture but I don't see them actively pursuing any wars at the moment or stopping vampires so I wonder why you posted disagree?

First of all, I'm not fully engaged in Algaron anymore -> @Sevrish is the person in lead. However, I see Algaron still as an active faction, though they're making some changes currently that might affect activity

You may notice that there are no longer evil vampire factions screaming in global. That is because we destroyed them. From what I see, most random people saying they are vamps, or wanting to be one, are new-non-prem-not in a faction people, making them a bit difficult to hunt. We have no concern for vampires in Regalia, that is up to the Guard/Crimsons to deal with.

Nothing is permanent. Every single faction will fall one day. Some last longer than others because they are built to last, like Alamut and 9thlegion.

Lamplight is celebrating two years. We are in it for the loooooong haul :D

I remember the great noobs of mordor, oh how we raided every single faction we came in contact with and got our asses kicked... ahhh too bad that faction fell apart by the raging people of aloria.

The reason big factions fall is becouse in order to be successful with a faction you need to sacrifice a lot if time of your irl life which doesn't hold in the long run. As simple as that ^^

Rooseus is right. I had to re-create a faction every time me and my friends went on vacation, and now I got loads of homework so I come once in a couple of days online

Buuuulllshit. Im studying and still got enough time, though you have to sacrifice IRL time but not that much if you do your stuff efficient. The main reason might be a mix of motivation, endurance and the IRL-time tradeoff

Haha, saints. You know the time schedule is different between the Leader and builder you know

Difference between studying and socializing is very big. I by my self spent a lot of time on server when I was bored, school was really hard, tests and all kind of stuff, and when I got home, I wouldn't go to town for a coffee or something like that, I would just sit on my chair and turned on minecraft. After the school "hard time" passed, I started going out for weekends and get drunk with friends, every day two coffees and such stuff, and eventually stopped playing minecraft. As you could probably see, or not, I don't know what is your ingame activity, but I'm very inactive now, and I care more for being socialized. :)

I believe MassiveCraft should be an extension of real life, as should any virtual hobby. If it starts detracting from your real life experiences - ultimately becoming less like entertainment, and more like work - then you need to stop playing. The problem is that MassiveCraft will not be around forever. You also may lose your friends that are currently on the server as they can time out due to inactivity. If you had sacrificed your real life for this, then you'd essentially be depressed in real life.

Sovereign legion, formerly 9 thlegion, and before THAT Badru is I believe the oldest faction to date that is still around, even older than the Sacred Alamut.

Massivecraft4EVER!!!!!!!!!!

I think officers should be encouraged more to stay in factions. A large part of the difference between a long standing faction and a short burn faction is the officers. Sooner or later the leader gets bored or goes inactive or whatever, and then it's up to the officers to run the faction. Problem being that all the competent ones have often left to create their own factions, which then do the same thing.

Look at Alamut, that faction has been around for a long time, same with Algaron and SovereinLegion(Used to be 9thLegion). There is a lot of ancient factions on this server. You'd be surprised at the amount of old factions is out there.

Alamut has basically "fallen". It only has 4 people, and they are mostly inactive. The other ones are good examples though.

I don't know about that, lately I've seen Cowboys talking in General chat quite a bit lately as well as Disturbed in my ally chat. Only person that can really be seen as inactive would be Kapry.
Doesn't mean the faction as a whole hasn't generally declined though, that's the point he's making. He never said it's completely died out, just it's inactive.

Well, me, as an old member of Alamut on their glory days, must sadly say. Alamut is dead, Valyria died too and also for me ALgaron is not the same with @Sevrish . With this im not saying that Algaron is better or worst. It is not just the same. For me its just a faction with a new leader. Many factions died many factions appear. I've been around for 1 year and 6 months now. I cant count how many big factions i saw falling. But one thing i must say falling or not the great factions never die as long as they live inside your memories. So long live Alamut, Invictus, Algaron, Pariahfolk, Auxillian, Bloodshed, Argonia, Yukuro/Chronikatr and 9thLegion.

(sorry if i forgot any other big faction)

I've been playing Minecraft clans, factions, and towny servers for 3 years now. I can honestly say, no. Not all factions die out. Some will last until the server ends. Mabye not under the same name, but the same basic group will tend to stick together through thick and thin. I speak from personal experiance. I've been playing with the same basic faction for three years. Though we gained and lost members, the 3 of the core are still there. When speaking strictly in terms of massivecraft, factions like Alamut and Algaron still go on, though the old farts may not exactly be thriving, They're still there. Mabye not the same as they were, but they're still there and still kicking. I saw Alamut recruiting just the other day, so who knows? Mabye its coming back.

YAY I'm not in a burn-out!

I BROUGHT THIS BACK AGAIN muahahahahahahahahaha.

Yeah, I did become dedicated to bring my faction into its former glory. It's pretty good now, and I eventually got leadership, and I still work hard to make it better. There's always room for improvement.
