This is an article devoted to answering the question: "How much money will a new non-premium need to spend on a kit of essentials?"

These calculations are based on him going to the market and buying stuff from the shops there(not going to trade chat, for example), and if he is actually looking around instead of just going to the 1st one he sees. Also, it is based on the averages of prices from all the shops in the Merchant District as well as the most supplied food shops in the district. Finally, these calculations are based on what others and I have brainstormed over a long period of discussion what a new player would need right off the bat.

Calculations
- 1 Stack of Bread: 1 + 0.4 + 0.32 + 0.45 + 0.32 + 3.2 + 3.9 + 0.6 + 0.1 + 0.45 + 0.19 + 0.51 + 0.2 + 1 + 0.3 = 12.94 / 15 = 0.86
- 1 Stack of Carrots: 0.25 + 0.16 + 0.2 + 0.6 + 0.1 + 0.15 + 0.19 + 0.5 + 0.3 + 1 + 0.7 + 0.4 = 4.5 / 12 = 0.38
- 1 Stack of Cooked Fish: 0.75 + 0.6 + 0.64 + 1 + 3.2 + 0.19 + 1 + 0.5 + 0.5 + 0.5 + 0.4 = 9.28 / 11 = 0.84

0.86 + 0.38 + 0.84 = 2.08 / 3 = 0.69
- 1 Fishing Rod: 0.75 + 0.7 + 0.2 + 0.05 + 0.1 = 1.8 / 5 = 0.36
- 1 Bow: 0.39 + 0.05 + 0.2 + 0.05 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 0.99 / 7 = 0.14
- 1 Stack of Arrows: 2 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 3 + 1 + 2 + 1 + 1.5 + 0.39 + 0.75 + 0.2 + 1.96 + 2.4 = 20.2 / 15 = 1.35

- 1 Diamond Hoe: 0.8 + 1 = 1.8 / 2 = 0.9
- 1 Diamond Sword: 1 + 0.49 + 0.5 + 0.5 + 0.5 + 3 + 0.8 + 0.5 + 0.25 + 0.9 + 1 = 9.44 / 11 = 0.86
- 1 Diamond Axe: 1.5 + 1 + 0.9 + 1.2 + 0.75 + 1.2 + 1 = 6.55 / 7 = 0.94
- 1 Diamond Shovel: 1 + 0.7 + 0.4 + 0.25 + 1 = 3.35 / 5 = 0.67
- 1 Diamond Pickaxe: 1.5 + 1 + 0.9 + 3 + 1.2 + 0.75 + 1 + 1 = 10.35 / 8 = 1.29

- 1 Diamond Helmet: 2.5 + 3 + 1.25 = 6.75 / 3 = 2.25
- 1 Diamond Chestplate: 5 + 5 + 2 = 12 / 3 = 4
- 1 Diamond Leggings: 4 + 4 + 1.75 = 9.75 / 3 = 3.25
- 1 Diamond Boots: 2.5 + 3 + 1 = 6.5 / 3 = 2.17

- 1 Stack of Coal: 2.4 + 1.12 + 0.6 + 0.49 + 0.19 + 1 + 0.1 + 2 = 7.9 / 8 = 0.99

- 1 Stack of Oak Logs: 0.6 + 0.8 + 1.5 + 0.8 + 0.8 + 0.6 + 0.8 + 0.6 + 0.75 + 1 + 0.64 + 0.4 + 0.32 + 0.8 + 0.05 = 10.46 / 15 = 0.7
- 4 Stacks of Stone Bricks: 4 + 0.8 + 2 + 1.2 + 2.4 + 3.6 + 0.4 + 0.8 + 0.4 + 0.08 = 15.68 / 10 = 1.57

- 1 Stack of Food: 0.69
- 1 Bed: 0.99 + 0.5 + 0.5 + 0.1 + 0.2 + 0.1 = 2.39 / 6 = 0.4

0.36 + 0.14 + 1.35 + 0.9 + 0.86 + 0.94 + 0.67 + 1.29 + 2.25 + 4 + 3.25 + 2.17 + 0.99 + 0.7 + 1.57 + 0.4 + 0.69 = 22.53 silver

Analysis
On average and in theory, the ordinary non-premium player that just joined the server will spend 22.53 silver before he goes out to explore in the Wilderness.

You may quote me on this topic for research purposes, as well as help me out by thinking and
finding out more ways to make these calculations more understandable and accurate. Just thought this one would be a little fun one I'd do for the weekends.

Next week is Black Friday, and I'll be releasing a giant article on where you should go in Regalia to do your annual Alorian shopping. ;)

Finally, feel free to ask me about how the calculations were set up as well as argue with me on this front, but please use statistics, not just opinions. :)

I know how much you like your constructive criticism, so I'll do my best to provide some.
First up, good work. I was wondering, if a new player had the intelligence to look around, would they not buy pure diamonds instead of the armor. One can make almost 4 diamond helmets at your listed average price. Also, on a more pernickey note. Your use of = is not always accurate. Yes, it's clear what you mean and it's perfectly reasonable you keep using them that way. However, for example, 0.8+1 does not = 1.8/2. Just thought I'd mention it. But anyway, great work!

Oxoman,
I appreciate it. :) In terms of the first point, I am assuming that they will be only looking for raw items and not the actual materials used to make them. However, I will take that price into consideration as I start up my study. :)

For the second point, I see what you mean. I just use it to save space, but whenever I do these again I will make sure to keep that fact in mind, hopefully so that the people reading it can be able to understand it. :)

Anything is a little finicky when it comes to noobs.

Perhaps this is their first server and they don't even know what a chestshop looks like, and they keep frustratingly trying to punch down the walls of a Regalian home, or they are Factions pros and instead ask a faction for their materials.

All the statistics in the world will most likely have to leave a great margin of error when it comes to new players.

Ozgho,
Agreed, this is just an approximation of how much the average new player will spend in the beginning. This isn't probably close to accurate to the real result, but this is just something to calculate the theoretical possibility of them buying this, spending that, etc.
