Hey so I was just reading up on the basics behind this server, and discovered that the worlds are not infinite...that concerns me. What happens if you run out of ores? Has it happened in the past? Should I worry about this when taking interest in the mining industry?

sorry doe, MC worlds were never infinte, it ended alway's in "the farlands"

World are deleted and created. Not frequently, but they are.
I would make sure you have a good amount of ores/precious gems/mined items before starting a business (if you decide to), just to be sure that you have surplus.
I believe there's another map that's currently in production as this is written.

The amount of resources in the world far exceed the need for it. plus years of duping exploits, the span of months where fishing poured tons of resources into the economy and mcmmo adding even more loot from mining it is vastly unrealistic for the world to run out of resources in fact there is actually severe deflation over time.

I'm fairly sure that the Jorrhildr map has already been completed and is just waiting for a good time to be entered into the game. The staff are fairly close I think to finishing the Hadar map. So theres a decent chance we might be getting a new map soon. And keep in mind while the current maps are finite they are still quite large.

Infinite wants and limited amount of resources is what drives the economy. If the staff were to fulfill the infitinite amount of wants then the economy would be in the water closet. The mining industry is actually in the water closet because there is metric **** tons of minerals in circulation. So your logic is completely false, and you should take a basic economics course.

actually they alway's did. only after bèta 1.8 they were removed and an invisable wall got put instead. @JakeTheNerd
Infdev to Beta 1.7.3
From Infdev to Beta 1.7.3, the area at the edge of the world was known as the "Far Lands". This phenomena was fixed in Beta 1.8, as the result of an unintended side effect of the large changes in terrain generation changes. This resulted in the disappearance of the Far Lands.
1.8 (Upcoming)

In 1.8, the fake chunks beyond X/Z 29,999,999 do not render , similar to how terrain past X/Z 31,999,999 in pre-Halloween Update versions would not render. Also, the invisible wall preventing the player from entering the Far Lands has been removed and has been replaced by the new world border, allowing the player to go to X/Z 30,000,000 by using "/worldborder center" to move the border. However, if the player attempts to go past the boundary, their connection will be lost, giving an "Illegal Position" message, even in singleplayer. When the player rejoins, they will be at the position they were at right before they crossed the boundary.

I don't think you need to become an economics professor to understand this... He was just asking a question, not stating it is dead, just answer the question, don't be rude :P

@JakeTheNerd and @arthur

Your arguments about worlds with infinite chunks are invalid because the server uses world borders. Also if infinite chunks did exist as I stated above the mining industry would continually be going into the water closet.

Also @Joshy54100

People on this server could benefit from a basic economics course. That is why I posted the MIT courses. If MIT courses seem a bit too over the top (which I can vouch they sometimes are) Just google high school economics and you can find a myriad of videos.

i'll explain. i never talked about infinite chunks. i was talking about the fact that worlds are not infinite and never were it. the worldborders on massive (and pritty much any other server) act like the natural world borders. explenation enough?

I don't see how my argument is invalid. All I did was inform someone who was mistaken. Just because this server uses world borders, even though we can't reach them, doesn't change the fact that the games actual borders exist.

@arthur

I'm not to sure what point you are trying to prove. All I did was say that they where removed a long time ago. I'm aware of the fact that the Far Lands where removed in 1.8 when it was released on September 15, 2011. All that your post did was support what I had said, but you still try to prove me wrong?

This quote is probably the most hilariously wrong thing I have seen. Don't you remember the logistic growth model from calc ab?
Yeah, if allowed infinite time to run a simulation what he said is wrong, but realistically the amount of resources that have been fished, mined, salvaged, and duped is ginormously huge.

if the staff were not to release a new world for another whole year I could see scarcity becoming rampant. Although certain things obtainable by mob drops would slow decay rate, they still would come close to running out. This also would be the best way of fixing the market up.

You have to remember that not everyone on the forum has taken calculus or a high level math course. And for those who haven't, some would rather spend their time doing something else (although calculus is fun...) instead of watching videos on math in their spare time.
I'm not saying that watching educational videos is boring. I disagree with that. But others might not have the time or might choose not to watch them if they have time.
So an infinite number of mathematicians walk into a bar. The first orders 1 drink. The second orders 1/2 of a drink. The third orders 1/4 of a drink. To this, the bartender says, "Whoa guys! Know your limits."
