Aloria Story Progression The Dark Queen Rises

As soon as the Dark Queen had finished her speech, her minions ushered in her dark rule by forcing the spectators out of the cathedral while the Deathlings flooded the city. The first to fall were the guards unlucky enough to get caught near the Cathedral. Completely unexpected and with the cover of night, the Deathlings assailed guard post after guard post. Some Violets managed to light the signal fire of an attack, sending the church bells across the city ringing almost non stop, for as long as the priests could until the Deathlings came for them in turn. The Violet Citadel could raise the alarm just fast enough for some of the guards to escape the onslaught, but eventually the horde of Deathlings reached the stronghold. The castle attempted to defend itself with its catapults, but the numbers of Deathlings were simply too many. The Violet Bureaucrats who were left at the castle in absence of the Commanders issued a surrender to spare the rest of the guards from being slaughtered by the outnumbering Deathlings. Curiously enough, the Deathlings were not killing indiscriminately. They killed those who stood against them, but simply accepted the surrender of those who lay down their arms. As such, the vast majority of the city guards were simply disarmed, either locked up in prison if they resisted or kicked out of the castle with nothing but their clothes on them.

The Imperial Palace caught sight of the alarm fires early enough. The gates had already been closed in anticipation of the war in the colonies, though with the coming storm in the Imperial city itself, the Palace truly entered alert mode as the cannons were armed on the walls. The Deathlings were smart enough to avoid the Imperial Palace, though they set up certain barricades around it either way with the intent to besiege it. The Military Governance building fared worst of all, the various generals and military staff utterly refused to surrender and the Deathlings eventually torched the whole building with everyone inside. Very few of the government officials made it out, many using various escape tunnels to flood into the sewers. Halfway through the night it became more apparent that the city was unable to hold back the flood and that the capital had fallen. Some of the battleship captains attempted to shoot their cannons at the Deathlings on the coast, though out of fear of damaging the city, only a few were shot.

The city was officially occupied by the tenth hour at night, the entire l event had taken roughly 2 hours to complete. Those who made it into the sewers or hid away from the Deathlings speculated that while the Violet Order normally had contingency plans, they could not resist a massive army of Deathlings that spew forth from the city’s own Cathedrals and graveyards, the places that had the least defences and choke points to defend the city in. The outer city gates were closed, though many citizens used various tunnels and broken segments of the walls which were badly maintained to flee to the countryside. Surprisingly, the Deathlings did not flood into the countryside of the Regalian Crown Isle, they were confined to the Imperial city itself. This obviously meant that the various noble Estates and Castles in the countryside still flew the Imperial Banner of Regalian control.

It was unclear what this occupation force was going to do aside from enthrone their Dark Queen, Freya Lo, as the new ruler of the Imperial City. No massive slaughters were enforced, no major cullings were performed and none of the city’s rights were suspended. Even the Noble Assembly continued to function, though it became more obvious that the situation around everything had changed, and the exact way that the new ruler was going to impact everyday life could only be felt in the coming days. Certainly, the Violet Order was replaced with the Lo Guard, an army of Deathling guards donning their own crimson armor, a twisted mixture of Crimson Inquisition armor and metal plating.

OOC Notes:

• The City has fallen under the direct rule of Freya Lo, the Dark Queen, supported by her Deathling Army.
• Any citizen can escape to the countryside. It is fine for Nobles to escape to their estates, but keep in mind you shouldn’t have to. The Deathlings are not causing excessive death, they just seized the City and aren’t really prosecuting anyone yet.
• Any citizen can escape into the sewers.
• No major city laws have changed yet, nor have any of the institutions stopped working aside from the Guards and the Government.
• The Violet Order is replaced with the Lo Guard.
• This all occurred between the hours of 8 and 10 at night on November 12th 304 AC.

• Be aware that the government is now controlled by basically an Evil Undead Army. If you start rioting or protesting in the street, your character will be executed. This is an oppressive regime, just because they just took the city with relatively small amounts of bloodshed doesn’t mean they aren’t bloodthirsty monsters and they will become violent if anyone tries to act like a hero.
• It is still fine for outside characters to be smuggled into the city by smugglers near the sewers and what not. The Regalian loyalists probably set up some form of transport into the city as well.
