On the night after the closing of the Regalian post-Lo Diet, the church bells rung for two hours straight. A signal that not many Regalians have memory of, or witnessed in the past besides the succession of 301 AC. The heralds took to the streets with lanterns and guards as they announced with bellowing voices:"The rule of Alexander the First, Alltmeister and ruler of the Regalian Empire has come to a close, granted by form of abdication. Long live the Crown prince and the Empire!" This never before act of abdication came at the headlights of a failed military coup, an intended attack on the Emperor by conservative elements within the government that was foiled from within by loyalists who stayed true to the Empire's cause. The High Lord of Calemberg, Ulric Typhonus, was chiefly accused and confessed to the crime, but was pardoned by the Emperor after a long drawn out display of emotion between the gathered nobility, the Emperor and the supporters of the conservative cause. The Emperor passed a final judgement in naming the Holy Minister Aethelred Coen the successor of the Supreme Reverend Wolffram Ultor, who had become too infirm to continue his position as highest in the Unionist Church. The Emperor had triggered article one of the succession act of 304 AC, dictating that his own sons were to be passed over for a yet unconfirmed heir to be presented by Imperial assent, leaving the citizens at large about the true identity of their next Emperor, at least for now. Evidently, the Emperor's oldest son Raynaud Kade immediately raised hell and protest, claiming to have the true right to the throne. Time would tell if any of the nobility would entertain the notions of this young ling. Many of the nobility had whispered how this relatively peaceful outcome had averted civil war in the Empire, however the tide of progressiveness had not yet come to a close. Those who lauded the arrival of the intelligentsia governance, were now uncertain in their endeavor, whoever the successor would be, could overturn whatever decision the last Emperor took on a whim. With the nobility still divided on the matter of governance, and Kade members of the Imperial Family already starting to create noise about disputing the succession chosen, only time would tell how the support of the people would fold, and whether the Empire was headed for a period of peace, or another period of disasterous instability.
Aaand guess what during all this government stuff Here come the Qadir to wage war upon Regalia Wheeeee
Meanwhile, the commoners tend to their crops and whether or not it'll rain. Purposefully ignorant of who will sit on a chair next.
Just when Niantha was beginning to love Emperor Alexander... We're in for another ride. In other news @Doc_Cantank AETHELRED FINALLY GOT THE POSITION HE WANTED.
He's still there, and he's got new priests leading the faithful in a triumphant fanfare of trumpets and horns.
OR we could deal with the crisis at hand (IMMORTAL BONE DEMONS) before we plunge regalia into political instability..right after doing exactly the opposite of what I said above XD.
Why not both? Complicated things are fun. Actually, why not have the Songaskia invade while we're dealing with the Bone Horrors and a civil war?
I still high-key want this to be an exist invasion or something tbh. It would make for a lot of opportunities for character development and rising in power. Like, if a chunk of the military leaders ended up dead because things are so desperate- thats the kind of thing that movies or books would do lol. The empire is getting desperate and pulling people in as quick as it can. Opens the door for characters who otherwise would normally have to be around for years to gain some notoriety, has room for plot twists, conspiracies, yada yada. (I went on a little tangent im sowwy)
Bruh! This is the exist invasion. It is just getting ignored because the we got wrecked high and Lo by a undead/reliveing queen who was Freyanticly destabilizing the people.
Vampiric deathling songaskia pull up in a lambo, their purple suits gleaning in the sun. One of them whispers into a guards ear"You work for us now, ho. " And that's how Regalia became Detroit.
