Brute Squad: A compiled group of individuals given authority to perform a specific task, under the command of one with rights to arm them. The Regalian Alms Ministry is seeking recruits for The Brute Squad A letter from the Alms Minister, People of the Jewel City of the Crown Isle, it is my honor and my pleasure to have been given the opportunity to contribute to the security of the citizenry, both nobility and common-folk alike. Security is a right of all legal citizens, and safety is our goal. The Brute Squad is not a guard force. It is not meant to patrol the streets and dole justice, or even to make arrests. The purpose of the Brute Squad is one thing only: the safety of Alms locations and Volunteers. Let me make this clear. We will never be the 'easy target' one associates with a soup kitchen. We are not a helpless group of do-gooders who shrink in the face of threats and violence. We are a force for good, and we are forceful to those who intend to disrupt our work. This Ministry is not a political battlefield where personal gripes and grievances will be permitted to halt the progress we are making. And to all enemies or potential antagonists, ask yourself: who are you harming, by targeting the Alms? We are the one place you may find sanctuary, some day. In short, the purpose of the Brute Squad is to protect the Alms Sanctuary and the Alms Garrison, as well as to protect the volunteers and staff of the Alms Ministry. Sometimes, Brutes will be asked to maintain a presence during events, or they may be asked to oversee the community service of a released criminal. Be a forceful presence. Engage in Alms rp and be scary. Discourage anyone messing with events. Be yourself. The purpose of this is to make use of people who may want to donate their strengths to the people of the city, but can't engage in other guard work. As long as you follow the rules, you can be from pretty much any walk of life. (... Legal. Legal walks of life.) Knights may apply! The Knight System GM has made it clear that the Brute Squad, not being a guard force, is open to knights who wish to serve the city and its people. Be ready and disciplined. While Brutes are more diverse than other guard forces, this means we have to be even more effective, more proud of our work, and more upstanding while on duty. Emergency Response: In the event of a city-wide emergency, the Alms Locations will become fortified, and will protect nobility and citizens from harm. Brutes will be responsible for protecting these locations, while Guards deal with the rest of the city and whatever is threatening it. You will be trained, and you will be responsible. What we Aren't: The Brute Squad is not a Guard Force. Not a house guard, not a guard charter, not mercenaries. We are precisely what's been detailed above: a legal right of the Alms Ministry, to protect the locations and staff. As such, there are some differences between Brute rp and Guard rp. Brutes are permitted to have a criminal record. Obviously, if you do crime, you will be arrested. If you're arrested, you'll be fired. We are not as polished and strict as a guard force, because you do not have the responsibilities that guards do. Brute rp is open to a wider range of character types, with the caveat of 'don't embarrass us.' Brutes do not make arrests. They do not patrol or halt crime when they see it. They refer only to Alms Locations, or Alms Volunteers. Brutes are not arm decorations. When guarding, Brutes are permitted to mingle, rp, walk around, enjoy the location. They are a presence, and they are disciplined, but they are not so strictly whipped into orderly conduct like other security forces. Ranks Alms Minister: Archuchess Sivrid Sorenvik oversees the hiring of the Captain, and can also give promotions and fire members who embarrass us. Captain of the Brute Squad: Currently a position held by Archduchess Sivrid Sorenvik Brute Enforcers: The only promotion available to Brutes is to become a Brute Enforcer. Enforcers can give directions to other Brutes, and will be crucial during emergency situations in communicating the Captain's orders to the rest of the squad. Brute Enforcers are promoted when they prove themselves, either through consistent presence, or in an act of selfless bravery to the Ministry or its people. Brutes: Every recruit is a Brute once they have had their interview and been accepted to the Squad. Brutes may detain troublemakers using any means, so long as violence administered is equal to violence or threat of violence given. They are encouraged to hang out in the Alms Locations, during events, or just casually, to keep up a presence. Basic Responsibilities Discourage: Most of the time, jus thaving Brutes around will be enough to encourage people not to make a scene. Diffuse: Diffusing a situation is always the first attempt to prevent violence from happening. Use of humor, intimidation, compassion- whatever. It's the nonviolent approach. Remove: Once someone has proven they won't calm down, just get them out of the building. Toss them out, and don't let them back in. Detain: If someone has committed a crime on Alms property or harmed our people, Brutes are encouraged to detain them by any means necessary, so long as the violence administered does not outweigh the violence or threat of violence given. At this point, someone must alert the Violet Order to make the legal arrest of the person. Sanctuary The Alms Sanctuary in Rose Court is the only legally documented Neutral Zone in the city. As such, the Alms Minister can declare sanctuary for any person, meaning that even the Violet Order and the Nobility cannot demand their release. Only the Imperial Guard can override this Sanctuary. Sanctuary only applies while the person remains within the Alms Sanctuary location, and not one step beyond it. Brutes will be responsible for the safety of anyone being Sanctuaried. If someone comes to request Sanctuary, they are to be sequestered in the Chapel until the Alms Minister arrives to either approve or deny their request. No arrests can be made within the Alms Sanctuary without Minister approval. The Minister must be contacted as soon as someone arrives seeking sanctuary. For example, a Sanguine discovered in the Alms may request Sanctuary, but if the Minister disapproves, they will be detained on sight until the Violet Order can arrive to arrest them. If a sanguine is discovered and flees the Sanctuary, it is not the Brute Squad's responsibility to chase them; only to deny them entry in the future. How to Join Up We do not accept Brutes through letter rp. You may message myself to schedule an interview, but all interviews will be done IC.
