Who wouldn't want their very own airship in massive? I mean seriously, it would be fantastic right? "But wait, can't you only do that with client side mods?" Not anymore!

http://dev.bukkit.org/server-mods/orange451-autocraft/

This plugin adds the ability to craft PvP airships which are (you would think it would be laggy but with sharding coming up, this may be possible) apparently lag free. This is my small input for the month or so. I know it's probably a terrible idea, but hey, why not just post right :P

how would this work with protected lands?

Do you mean with the whole napalm and tnt thing? Cause if you are, explosions are turned off (you still take the damage just no mess) and fire spread is turned off (meaning that it would be a pain to put out, but not unmanageable)

I mean how would it work when you fly into an area where you don't have build permissions, I know it would still fly, but what if it was left there or obstructing something. It could open up new ways to grief and troll as well as making realistic walls even more ineffective.

Does the server have this many players, this many mobs, this many worlds, this many plugins, and so on and so forth?

I was just making an observation. But if you really must know ...

- It had space for 80 players ( 56 slots was the usual amount filled )
- How the hell am I supposed to count mobs?I don't know what the spawns were set to by the Operators.
- It ran three worlds. Each with a varying size and difficulty level.
- I don't know all the plugins they had since I was still just a regular member, but here's what I knew they had.
: MCMMO
: Factions
: WE
: WG
: LogBlock

Those are the basics I knew of.
Now I ask you don't snap at me again.

I'm not snapping, I am simply asking you an honest question. This server seems a lot more basic than Massivecraft is, and that is the exact reason I was wondering. I want to compare this because a lot of other servers don't have the quality that Massivecraft does.

Back to the topic at hand, this probably could be achievable after sharding is finished, but I'm already seeing ways airships could be used to exploit the enemy's base.

Also, the bigger problem at hand is whether or not we can make this compatible with sharding. I think Cayorion would probably prefer making an in-house plugin himself than using somebody else's.

Well, by the looks of it, you can pilot any airship even if another player has built it, so unless it's parked so high up like past sky level there will always be a way to get it and either bring it into the fold of your sky navy, or you could bring it to ground level and destroy it.

An air ship plugin would have a huge impact on almost every aspect of gameplay, it wouldn't just be adding something to massive, it would be entirely changing it.
Yes you can take over or destroy an air ship that has been parked in your base, but if its made just to get over your wall its probably ugly and non-rp, and having to destroy them would get quite annoying, especially for anyone that gets raided frequently.

Aww, but that's the thing, the admins can easily structure it to be harder for the player to make a airship just for getting over walls (which you can already do to a extent with ender pearls)

Er... no. I have used a similar plugin called movecraft I think it is called and everytime you used it would crash the server. Also it can only face 1 direction. Ok if it was the Zeppelin mod as that detaches from minecraft physics. But everyone would use these all the time and would crash the server and I can think of some ways it would be abused too as technically you would then be building in other people's faction land.

Now, let me present a scenario...

As the sun set on the kindom of Noobsania, the sentries on the turrets trembled as they began to hear war drums of the approaching horde. The king of Noobsania, Lord Ragealot, sighed and looked down. "We knew this day would come. Long has the tension grown between Noobsania and the kingdom Griefland. It was only a matter of time before they attacked."

Meanwhile...

Lord_Applesauce looked at the kingdom from the deck of the airship. As lord of Griefland, it would be a proud day to see Noobsania fall to his legions. He watched his army of infantry march up to the door, while he flew in his ship, follow by dozens of other ships. He turned around, to see his right hand man, the dashing and handsome Golemlord. Golemlord stood waiting for orders, and looking quite good as he did it. Golemlord saluted Lord_Applesauce, and began to ask, "Sir, shall I give the signal for the airships to begin bombarding the walls?"

Lord_Applesauce shook his head. "I have something great planned. We are going to drive all the ships above the castle, and then leave them there! Then they will have to spend hours dismantling our ships, and we will run off! Muahahahahahaha!"

The handsome man known as Golemlord sighed. "((don't you think that might be a little abusive sir?))"

Lord_Applesauce glared at Golemlord and said, "((stfu noob I'm pro at PvP))"

ok, first xD. And second, wouldn't the people of noobsania just be able to take the airships and add them to their fleet? Thus strengthening their forces and allowing them to attack the people of Griefland.

And as for you point YaJrab, this is actually a fined tuned version of movecraft (as movecraft has essentially died) Sure people would use them, but do you think the admin would allow for just anyone to do it? They are smarter then that, and know what they are doing. It could simply be for premuims and the like, and several rules set inplace. If it was to crash the server, it would be as simple as going into the javascript, finding the errors, and fixing them. Me and my buddy did this all the time for a old server we were apart of. If a mod or plugin was being weird or crashing, we fixed it. Not saying it worked everytime however, but it sometimes does. Sure it might be abused a bit, but what can't be abused? There are rules set in place to stop abuse of glitches and the like, and some new ones would have to be set in place for airships as well (though i'm pretty sure that this has only a 20% chance of getting onto the server).

Well my point is it wouldn't be that hard to make ships, I mean it's just some resources. Imagine that the ships were just flying pieces of wood and wool, and there was little value to them. My point in this is the Griefland people are basically cramming the city with ships, to the point where there is no sunlight getting in, it's hard to move around, and it generally looks terrible. Sure, they could move them, but it would be tedious and annoying.

Wait.... wouldn't airships make walls completely obsolete? A.k.a making it so no static defenses will work now?

Well yes, but at least you have to get ahold of some fairly rare items! With this plugin you can literally get some wool and sail over the enemy fortifications!

Actually, this plugin (if I'm correct) allows you to set building parameters. So maybe 2 dia blocks per ship, therefore making airships more valuble and harder to obtain.

Why can't we just test it out? For a week on the server and if everyone hates it, get rid of it.[DOUBLEPOST=1367871173,1367871116][/DOUBLEPOST]And yes I am aware of sharding and all that jazz but I mean after.

I would have to say 3 wweeks, a week is too short to get good feed back.

If possible they could make it unable to enter enemy factions at all

But where's the fun in using it if it can't help you destroy your enemies? I mean sure, if your enemies just leave it in your territorythen it's a bit of a eyesore, but that's grief to a extent, and that's punishable ;)

How bout this idea. Make it so tnt and cannons mounted on airships can destroy blocks on other airships, and also make it so each airship has to have a "command" block, which if destroyed will depower all cannons and systems on the airship, leaving the crew trapped on a floating island. This could lead to some interesting air battles or ships, and possibly even boarding parties which try to find and destroy the command block on the enemy's ship.

I think movecraft is better, if it didnt go dead. Movecraft was really good at not causing lag, used it on my old server.

Can there be more than one person on a airship?

I think this would be lots of phun and nice to have on this glorious server.

You can't just claim every airship, you would run out of room eventually and have to start smashing them.[DOUBLEPOST=1367906423,1367904874][/DOUBLEPOST]As I stated earlier this isn't something that is just added to a server, it would become a focus of the server.

I don't think you realised this when you suggested it but this isn't just a suggestion to add airships, you are suggesting to alter PvP, the architecture of factions, a change in what's considered griefing and ownership of construction.

You can control ships others made but when should you be permitted to? Can you steal another's ship when its in their faction land? what about in the wilderness? They spent time making it so is it any different from destroying or taking over anothers building?
They may have been flying it through the wilderness but had to get off before they could get it to a safe place, in which case you just stole their property when they had no chance to defend or protect it and probably making them die from fall when they log in again.

As for a trial period, a lot of problems would only become major issues after it had been active for a lengthy time. I think any trial period less than a month or so would be casting the plugin in a good light, leaving out much of the bad. The end of this trial would leave a mess of airships scattered across the worlds requiring far too much effort to clean up.

This plugin would make a huge change to Massivecraft, and as fun as airships would be I think it would be a change for the worse.

If we have airships we will get air pirates >:D

Ok, let's go through this one by one.

1: Server focus.

Yes, it would more then likely become a focus of the server but would that necessarily be such a bad thing? It would add such a new and interesting aspect to the game that i think it would be great for the server.

2: Changing.

I pretty much new what i was suggesting when i did suggested it. Yes, it would alter PvP, but not in such a way unlike how cannons did, with airships, it would be more like moving cannons. Now, if you mean the architecture of factions literally, then yes, it would require you to build something of a air dock. If you mean it more metaphorically, then, a restructure of any faction hierarchy would be as simple as appointing a trusted member in the faction as a "Skycaptain" or something along those lines. Yes, a new form of Griefing would be introduced, but this can simply be taken care of by setting up a law that says one is not allowed to just park and leave a blimp in another factions territory. Yeah, there would always be people who break this law, but there are ALWAYS be people who will grief, and more then likely they have/will be punished. Now, what belongs to a faction is just that, you built it, it's yours, but, this can add a very interesting element to thieves and bandits. While the components of a airship may not be valuable, the collection of all them together make it a valuable item, and as i have learned (the hard way mind you) theft of valuable items is allowed. (also, in a side note, who is actually going to log off on one of these things close enough to the ground to be jacked? Just park the sucker at sky level, and you will be good.)

3: Trial period.

While more then a month would be something of....overkill, i think that a 3 week -4 week trial period would be a good idea. Why? Simply because that would let people get failure with the idea and allow them to get some time under their belt for them to figure you if they like the idea or not.

4: The end.

Yes, it would change Massivecraft in huge way, but I personally don't believe it would be for the worse.

I concur with these points, they are reasonable and well-thought out. You also listened to the comments here, that's a very good step.
