Third of May, 309 A.C., Mirabella Wymarc.
Sanguine of Regalia, I thank you for trekking the long path to make it out here this evening. Perhaps as better encouragement I'll add that there is wine and ichor inside the ballroom for if you wish to socialize when I've spoken my word, and that anyone is free to add their opinions at the end as well. I have noticed a depression in our people, even before Ayas' death, but death, afterall, is a catalyst. Even if you didn't know him personally I'm sure those around you influence your thoughts on him enough. No matter how you feel about recent events and happenings, this message should apply to all of the Sanguivorous population.
Firstly, we must move past the obstacles blocking our path -- No, not just to move past, but to /push/ past, knocking down whatever is in our way. Some have us trained, in the sense that we often underestimate ourselves. From time to time, we have been tempted to believe that society has become too complex to be managed by self-rule. But if no one among us is capable of governing himself, then who among us has the capacity to govern someone else? All of us together, in and out of government, must bear the burden. So, as we begin, let us take inventory.
In Dorkarth they sit in fine facilities, drinking wine and looking down with noses in the air at the whimpering Sanguine of Regalia. Do not think for one moment that the Dorkarthian Nobility care about you, about us, because they don't. If we look to the answer as to why for so many years we achieved so much, prospered as no other people on Aloria, it was because in Dorkarth we unleashed the energy and individual genius of man to a greater extent than has ever been done before. Such was stolen from us when we left the homeland and we have no claim to glory now. That is not to say we can't have greater things; we have every right to dream heroic dreams. But who gets paid for honor?
The crisis we are facing today does not require of us the kind of sacrifice that so many thousands of others were called upon to make. It does require, however, our best effort and our willingness to believe in ourselves and to believe in our capacity to perform impactful deeds, to strike back, to fight for our brethren, to believe that together we can and will resolve the problems which now confront us.
A lesson which should be well-learned amongst our Sanguivorous population is that of Diplomacy. Much too often I see fists thrown before words. Using words before jabs often elevates one to a higher position than the opposing side, for when speaking and when being spoken to, one does find exactly /why/ they are fighting, /who/ they are fighting, and /what/ they are fighting for. Education commences at the mother's knee, and every word spoken within the hearing of little children tends toward the formation of character.
This evening, encouragement is in store. As you push through fiery boughs ablaze, remember to stop and consider the lilies; for every leaf you leave unturned there is a humble hermitage of polite pests and considerate cocoons of busy butterflies. While others may be enjoying the fruits of our labor, we can stop and admire the niceties along the path from time to time. You will not find the princes of Dorkarth at your table or in your courts but you will find what they left behind for us. The best thing to ever leave my imagination is that cry of war, like a musical cadence that had not yet arrested the attention of a single soul.
Your pride overshadows your humanity, utilize it. The hand of harsh reality often slaps us awake from thoughts of unity and peace, when we are reminded that 'good' and 'evil' are simply subjects to their masters, and that life is not worth living without blood. So, Sanguine of Regalia, be proud; Look at the stars above you this evening, they do not hang by strings from that inky night sky, but by the will of their creator. They do not exist by natural means, and neither do you. So let pride be your necklace and violence your garment as you sweep the streets of this steel-coated city. They dance in delight at the dastardly downtrodden and damned; they can punish us all they want, but we'll always act best in their heads. Why do they seek to cure us, to rid us of our power, our glory, even our cuisine, our fashion, our mannerism and our thought-process? They would not do so if we were not a force to be reckoned with. My pearl in the world is that the threat still exists.
You and I, as individuals, can, by borrowing, live beyond our means, but for only a limited period of time. We are borrowers, stealers, murderers, liars scum of the earth and traitors to the government. But one day soon I hope we can provide for ourselves. We are what we repeatedly do.
Blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb. Glory be.
