This would normally go on a Wiki Update thread, but it's a major change that could affect all Songaskian Characters, so worth posting separately.

Reason:

  • The Songaskian race was originally devised to make Massive more universally diverse with a new skin tone choice (as way back when the Tokaige and Vespid existed, every "Human" was white skinned). The race had a major popularity boost during the Songaskian Occupation, but popularity soon waned after and only die-hard fans remained with the race. It has been reasoned that this was purely the case because the race's design was so alien. The uniform one-hair-color one-eye-color proved difficult for some people to get over, especially since you had nowhere to go if you didn't like white hair, and we frequently received inquiries about hair dye. Furthermore, the "lesser born" (with not white hair) Songaskians having to face scrutiny from their own race for existing purely because someone wants to play something that is more akin to a real-life person of African descent, was unnecessary. This fix aims to correct that by importing more creative liberties into the Songaskian race as a whole, while correcting some outdated assets of the race.

Effects:
  • Changed Songaskian language from Qadiriq to Sofaal to avoid confusion.
  • Implemented the Social Caste system to remove ambiguous social stigma of black haired Songaskia.
  • Expanded the gene pool to allow for more varied Songaskian Character designs.
  • General spelling & grammar improvements on the document.
  • Proper integration of Magic into present Magic lore.
  • Lowered physical prowess of the race to make them less physically capable than Ailor across the board while also compensating on a subrace.
  • Revision of Politics to allow for aristocratic elite.
Exact Race Changes:
  • The regular one pillar Songaskian race has been split into Ashanti, Hassal, Rubah, Jenne and Wolof. These each represent a different creative interpretation of the same race with a twist to it.
  • Ashanti are slitted-eyed, white-haired gold-irissed Songaskians of the ruling class, who are immune to possession, cannot be born as Silven or can be affected in any other way by Planar Essence.
  • Hassal are normal-eyed, white-haired gold-irissed Songaskians of the richer class, who are not immune to possession and can be born as Silven.
  • Rubah are military oriented Songaskians who are permanently bald with no body hair and mahogany colored eyebrows and gold, mahogany or otherwise dark brown colored eyes who are the only Songaskian sub race capable of achieving strongman bodybuild and are always toned regardless of lifestyle. Rubah Songaskians are also often Slaves, even if this entire sub race belongs to the military class.
  • Jenne are normal eyed, black-haired (or Dark Brown), brown-irissed Songaskians of the common class.
  • Wolor are normal-eyed, blonde (from light to gold to dark blonde) haired, gold-irissed Songaskians who are sometimes a few shades lighter in their skin tone, but never quite as light as an Avanthar or Qadir. Wolor are the social outcast sub-race caste of Songaskian Society that makes up most of the banditry and fledgling nations bordering the Songaskian Masaya.
Player Effects:
Not necessarily too much, but some considerations should be taken:
  • Songaskian language was changed. As such <Q> should no longer define Songaskian language, but <S> or <Sofaal> should.
  • Songaskians that were previous impure (e.g born without white hair) are no longer social rejects. That caste now belongs to the Wolor, while the Jenne (Songaskians with dark eyes and hair) are normal class citizens of the Songaskian people.
  • Weird Songaskian body proportions were normalized to Ailor standards, while also barring strongman body build from the majority of the sub races. Height was also reduced by 4-6 inches and weight reduced by 20 pounds. Characters that maxed out on physical sizes may need to modify.
  • All Songaskian sub races cannot interbreed with any other race, or even sub race of the Songaskian race, with the sole exception of the Jenne. In the past, when a Songaskian bred with for example an Ailor, what we know today as a Jenne would be born. As such, nothing changes for existing characters, but views on NPC parents may have to change.
On a last note, we will be enforcing a certain standard for skin tone compliance. We feel that bleeding the "correct" skin tone that Songaskians are attributed to by making any art/skins for them appear Arabic or tanned Hispanic to be a betrayal to the original concept of the race. We have removed the Wiki Skin tone article to avoid further confusion since the RGB values on that page are not consistent across every browser. Bottom line TL;DR: Stop white-washing the Songaskians.

Well at least they're not Egyptian.
