She was raised in the outer regions of the Varran city of Ssil. Despite lacking one parent she was greatly loved and cared for by her mother. As she grew up, her mother taught her combat in the family's unique style, which consisted of a combination of unarmed combat alongside a large amount of speed and acrobatics. Unknown to her mother, Shani slowly developed a habit as a kleptomaniac. Adolescence As she grew into her teens, her minor habit of stealing smaller objects turned into an obsession, both as a bad habit, and as a means of rebelling against her mother, who always spoke of the value of laws and authority. As she grew into her late teens she started to ask questions of who her father had been. Her mother however refused any of this information, only telling it he had already died and that it was pointless to know. Between the secrets and Shani's stubborn personality, she often found herself in the company of less reputable people, who offered her freedom at the cost of reputation. With the help of her friends, she learned the skills of lockpicking and some stealth to help her with her shenanigans. Young Adult Later in her early adult years her mother eventually found out about her less than legal habits, and the two fought until Shani left home. She stayed within Ssil but moved into the main city instead. She joined local fighting rings to hone her combat skills, and made a living off stealing from people in the night, only living day to day. Her illegal activities eventually landed her in trouble with the local law, and was only let off after her mother arrived to get her out. While the two were still at odds with each other, Shani did apologize for the harsh words they parted by, and worked to fix her bond with her mother. While Shani did get a legal job with a hunting guild, she never did stop her stealing habits. The time spent with her mom eventually convinced her to tell Shani more of her father. Knowing at least where her father had lived, she was dedicated to trying to learn more. She spent many years after that saving, as well as stealing. Adulthood: Between being fined for her crimes and the slow grind of saving her money, it took her many years to save the money it required to head to Regalia. To expedite the process she took up pit fighting on a competitive level, often returning home to her mother needing bandages. With help and further training, Shani's fighting career took off from there, earning her a great deal of money. After a few more years of this, she had the money, and with loving farewells, she set off to Regalia hoping to find out more of the other half of her family.
