Rodion grew up as the eldest child in a hunting family, as the family had done for many decades prior. His family were moderately wealthy from the pelt trade, however that was becoming more difficult to sustain - with growing scarcity of the beasts that their people once slaughtered en masse. Rodion was given a short education by local tutors, but for the most part, he never received a formal education and instead worked at a very young age. It was during this time that he refined his unarmed abilities, bola combat and in particular, his hunting sense. His father claims his first kill was a boar, in which he killed with his bare hands - people choose to believe this or not. He grew-up very close with his brothers, and cousins (who were essentially siblings to him) and despite growing up in a very strict and traditional household, he thrived. In search of new industry, the Kuritnids expanded outward of Petrograd, beginning to work in coal exploration and extraction. Rodion’s skills were not best suited for the coal mines, which he tested, but the large expansive forests that surrounded their settlement. Rodion, with guidance from his father and uncles, became the skilled axeman; with the logs they were produced needed to keep the mine caverns from collapsing in on themselves. It became more than a small operation, and Rodion was tasked with operating the lumber-mills and woodchopping for their outpost, where he developed his axe and wood craft skills. As the settlement grew and was formed into Kuritnidgrad (named after their family), it was then that the family opened a new outlet of business. After discovering tabacca, the natural new business venture was in cigarette manufacturing. Kuritnidgrad had all of the wood for the rolling paper and match sticks it needed - and miners were a stickler for a good smoke after clocking off work. It was a success, guided under the leadership of his brother who had significant financial expertise. With all successful businesses comes the opportunity to expand and secure strong trade relations. The family decided to travel to the Crown City to find more business and build their financial syndicate.
