The crisp breezes of early autumn blew through the streets of Regalia, some of the first signs of the season's change. Within the Grand Hall of the Imperial Palace, the Imperial Court was in full swing. A string quartet played a melodic and soothing Anglian tune as the various family chancellors and colonial representatives made their way around the hall, whispering and exchanging pleasantries as per usual during the entertainment hour. Seated at the front of the hall was the Emperor, atop a large ornate throne, the Arch-Chancellor at his right, and the Supreme Reverend's empty seat to his left.

As the string quartet's song reached it's final crescendo, Arch-Chancellor Ulric Typhonus cast a sidelong glance at the Emperor to his left. The Emperor returned with an almost unnoticeable nod, before returning his attention to the courtier filled hall. Following the Emperor's gaze, Ulric drew a silent breath. He didn't expect to feel so.. Calm. The whole situation seemed more or less surreal to the aging knight of the Realm. But he didn't have much time to dwell on the fact. The throng of chancellors and dignitaries assembled themselves by court order as the music of the hall silenced, leaving only a few hushed whispers amongst the crowd. After a moment's pause, Ulric rose slowly to his feet, taking a few unhurried steps forward. "
My peers and courtiers," the Chancellor spoke, clearing his throat. "The Realm has seen a great deal of change within the past four years. So much so that I cannot even begin to name every detail. The death of the charitable and gracious Celine Anahera, victory over the Elven Kingdoms, the passing of the Righteous Emperor Justinian II, the Lo Heresy, the glorious coronation of our Emperor Alexander I, the destruction of a heretical Goddess-construct, an occupation by the forces of the Qadir Pashtalla and, by the strength of the Realm's citizens, the subsequent return to order. And that is only to name a few." A few courtiers nodded in agreement, some murmuring their support as the Chancellor continued on. "And there is undoubtedly more change to come. As the blessed promises of the Union tell us, Humanity will face many trials on the path towards our divine purpose, but all shall be overcome with the guidance of our most holy Imperial Spirit. But as some may be aware, an excess of change wears on a man. And it is with a humble conscious that I announce my resignation from State politics, and the Arch-Chancellor's seat." Almost immediately, rushed whispers rippled through the collected politicians. Grins and hushed cheers arose from the Ithanian Lobby's representatives, whilst the right-wing Imperialists and pro-Typhonus statesmen looked on in horror. "I will be taking a much needed retirement within the Lordship of Calemberg, but will readily serve the Realm if called upon. My titles and honors shall be passed off to my son and heir, Lord Cayden Typhonus, under the regency of Hadrian Typhonus, who shall be taking up my seat on the State Council until the Lord Cayden comes of age. Futhermore, with the Arch-Chancellor's seat now effectively vacant, His Imperial Majesty shall be receiving letters of submission from those who wish to run for the seat, effective now until the 18th of September, after which a State election will take place."

The court stood silent for a moment or two, letting what the Typhonus had just said sink in. But as the ex-Lord took a step back, the court exploded into a storm of incomprehensible yelling, muttering, cheering, and a whole slew of other expressions. With the Chancellor's seat now unexpectedly reopen to the Realm, the possibility of a new House securing their political foundation, or perhaps even becoming a name to be heard, was now reality. As the Court continued it's thunderous discussion, Ulric released a drawn out breath through his nose. Certainly a weight had been lifted off of his shoulders, but he didn't doubt the fact that he would miss this city, in a strange sort of way. With a final twirl of his groomed mustache he turned before the Emperor, offering a low bow, before making his way down the short stairs to the side of the dais. With hurried steps, Ulric Typhonus and his small entourage made their way to the flamboyant doors of the Grand Hall, leaving the Imperial court and the state's politics behind.

OOC:

An election to select the new Arch-Chancellor will be held after the 18th of September of this year. To participate, start a forum conversation with @MonMarty as a letter from your character addressed to the Emperor that expresses their desire to run in the election.

Before I'm asked, Ulric Typhonus is now an NPC character. However, the House Typhonus is not being abandoned. @Jared4242 will be leading the family as Hadrian Typhonus for a little while.

The Lord-Regent of Calemberg sat on the edge of his bed, thinking over the events of this chaotic day. The news had not shocked him, he had seen this building. He stood, and paced over to his desk, eyeing the multitude of letters on his desk. From the Houses Fong, Coen, Kade, Walerius, more...
He stood, silent, still. He felt the pain in his back, the tingling loss in his leg, his arching back. How
time had weakened him...

Crack. "Time to dance." he growled. His back straight, he attacked the letters on his desk, his quill a mad dash across the parchment. He would not be a footnote on his son's legacy, he refused to let this kill the House. On the contrary, that fool boy of his would return to a House twice as strong!

The letters sent, he limped downstairs, a retinue of House Guards by his side, as he made for the Noble Lounge, his cane tapping across the stones. "Come along boys, you've a Lord-Regent to protect!" He had faced war, but now, it was time for a great battle of a different kind.

Amidst a cramped yet arguably quaint Archive tucked within the Business street, Ren Fong poured himself a reasonably full glass of sakĆ©. As the otherwise distasteful and equally sour liquid funnelled out, he couldn't help but recall Ulric for the man he was, as opposed to the man the Court Ball pushed him to be - a fellow fighter unafraid to get his hands dirty when the time called for it, ready to push aside the Political Intrigue when faced with crisis. In the end, that was what mattered. That was what saved them salvation from certain apocalypse. Rubbing his own unmarked neck quite contently, he set himself comfortably into his seat, raising the glass in solitary toast as he crossed his leg, smiling to the shadows above.

"To fostered Family curses, hollow threats, many battles past, and many more to come, aha.~"

That night, the Passage Estate was alight with activity. The lounge, which has been prepared most grandly
for an impending tea party, was filled to the brim with Barlowe business. Words were exchanged --

questions asked, shouts and glares thrown, and eventually, conclusions met. The Great Barlowe Plot
they
called it, or, at least, what MƦdelyn would call it. As the evening sun kissed the world goodnight,
MƦdelyn began an order. She scribbled on:

The Ravenstad Boutique maintained a calm atmosphere: a blissful silence engulfed the rooms of the scarlet clad building, broken by short bursts of scribbles; the odd grumble; and the rhythmic tapping of an inkwell. Anton Ravenstad sat at his desk, a sense of great concentration plastered upon his face, as he began to pen yet another letter. It may be time to garner some influence in the the Ithanian Lobby... he thought, pausing briefly, before carrying on with the swift strokes he was so very accustomed to, while writing.

Kemion was shocked to hear the news, never imagining it would happen. Ulric Typhonus, retiring? What would it mean for Regalia? What would happen with the crisis in the North, now that Regalia has lost such a strong leader? Well, Kemion had plans of his own. He ran back to his home, and found his Messenger.
"Tonkim!" He called, "start writing what I'm about to tell you, I've got an election to join."

Tiber arose from the grave, fuck sakes, he had a family to sort out and an election to win.

Charles sighed at the news, another great leader lost. One of the best. The only admirable family worth such a position was clear, and he'd make sure he'd do all in his power to see they get that seat. He would exit his house, heading for the Coen Estate.
