Priceless Items: The Locket

Ooc note: So, this is kind of a bit of backstory behind Connak and three of his items. This is not at all a big series and I only plan to make two more after this one. Also, the events from the stories of the "Priceless Items" story arc all happen at different times on the same day. There is no obligatory 'read at your own risk' warning here. One last thing, whenever Connak speaks, try to read it in a light Irish accent. It's how he actually spoke before coming to Regalia and losing the accent all together.

Priceless Items: The Locket

It was like any other night for Connak. Come home after a long day, talk to the wife, chat with the kids, have a light dinner and then go to sleep. But this time, he didn't fall asleep right away like he normally does. Instead, he'd lie awake while his wife was curled up beside him. He'd glance at her for a moment and then picked up the locket that he always wears off his chest. He'd click it open and gazed at the small paintings inside. On one side, there would be a painting of himself as a Kathar with his usual bold and daring smirk. On the other, a woman who he had loved dearly, even long past her death.

"Alessa…" He faintly whispers into the air. Being careful not to wake his wife.

As he looked at the small painting of her, it began to bring back memories of both good and bad variety. There would be a few memories that stood out, one of them being the day they met. Another is the day she died. A third memory would be their first date, while a fourth would be on his birthday and how she surprised him. Out of those four memories, the good overpowered the bad which caused Connak to smile. He'd also get pulled into a flashback and it'd happen a little like this:

It was a clear summer night in Hallonq. The date would be June 11th, 267. Both Connak and Alessa would be laying on the roofs gazing up at the night sky. The two would be conversing amongst themselves in quiet voices.

"Now I see why you like being on the roofs. The night sky is so beautiful and peaceful."

"Not only that but listen to how quiet it is up here. I just enjoy it up here. It makes a good way to calm down and be happy."

"I see. Is it the same as when we get together?"

"Yes, it is. Alessa, there's something I have to tell you and I'm not sure how to put this but I'm going to try. Alessa, whenever I'm around you, I feel like I found someone who seems to make me whole an-"

"Dack, if you're trying to ask me out then yes. I'll date you. After all, I feel the same way with you."

Connak would go silent as he smiled from ear to ear. Instead of saying anything, Connak would simply hug Alessa in utter joy and happiness that one could dance… and that is what they did. Connak wasn't much of a good dancer while Alessa was. The two would dance with each other until break of dawn.

The flashback would come to an end and Connak came back to reality. The Sundial would smile as he clicked the locket shut. He'd place the locket back on his chest and then looked up at the ceiling.

"Alessa, you may be gone, but you're not forgotten. No matter where I go or what I do, I will always carry the memories we had, and this locket. It has became a part of me so that I can keep you close at all times. It's the same with Andreas and my tattoo, and Zayde and his robe, but the memories of you have always stood out to me. Even after all the time that has passed, I'm never going to forget the good times we shared." He whispered into the air. His wife would stir around a bit but she remained asleep. Eventually, Connak slowly closed his eyes and drifted off to sleep.

The night would be vanquished by the morning sun and Connak would be the first to wake. He does his normal morning routine and then grabbed something for a light breakfast. Once he does all that, he'd head to the door and then paused to make sure he had everything he needed. Once he did, he'd set off to carry on with his day.
