Priceless Items: The Dagger

Ooc note: As I said in the first part, I'm not making this a big series and that I'm focusing on the backstory of some of Connak's items he carries with him. Again, the events from the stories of the "Priceless Items" story arc all happen at different times on the same day. One last thing, I highly recommend that you read the Priceless Items: The Locket first if you haven't already.

Intruder alert! There's a Kathar spy in the base!

Priceless Items: The Dagger

Moments after leaving his house at dawn, Connak would be the first of many on the streets of Regalia. The streets would be empty with Connak being one of the few that are up and about, with the exception of the guards who are on patrol. The first place Connak had to go was the Nook and Cranny inn. Upon getting there, he'd check the stock and poorly scribbled down what was low on a piece of parchment. At this time, nothing in stock was low, which resulted in Connak leaving before anyone showed up. He'd make his way to the sewers, and a guard would pass by. In passing, Connak would offer the guard a brief nod which was ultimately ignored by the guard. Both would continue their ways and Connak eventually made it to the sewers.

Upon arrival, he'd make his way down the line when suddenly, he'd be a mugging target for a dweller. The dweller swiftly stepped in front of Connak and drew a rusty dagger which was then pointed at the Sundial's neck.

"Give me all you got, Mudskin." The dweller would order as he made a quick little stabbing motion with the dagger.

"I wouldn't do that if I were you. You have no idea what I'm capable of." Connak would say rather calmly as he carefully reached under his coat and behind his back. He'd show the dweller that he was armed with a shortsword and nothing else.

"Oh, I think I do know what you're capable of. You are capable of giving me that blade on your hip and what other things you got. Now, do as I say and you won't be harmed… too much." The dweller would boldly say as they continued to point their blade at Connak.

Without a second to lose, Connak would quickly snap into action. He'd swat the dweller's arm away and drew his own from what seemed to be behind his back. The dweller would let out a meager battle cry as they tried to stab Connak in the chest. Being quick on his feet, Connak would step to the right and the dweller would stumble forth. While that happened, Connak stabbed the dweller in the back and the blade would punature the dweller's lung. Quickly, Connak would rip his dagger out from the dweller's back to increase the size of the wound. As a result, the dweller would fall to the ground and grunted in pain. Promptly, Connak would flick the blood off his blade and then walked away without a word. He'd be reminded of the few times when his dagger got him out of a troublesome situation. Out of the memories, one would stand out and went something like this:

The date is June 6th, 273. A twenty-one year old Connak would be out on an important assignment. His task is to infiltrate a known coven base in order to gather information on their plans. For Connak, getting in was easy since there is a small patrol outside, timing is everything and that Connak slipped by each member of the patrol and waitwd for each opening that was presented. Once inside, he would still have to sneak around to avoid detection. There would be more patrols inside which forced Connak to take it slow and carefully sneak on past each patrol. It'd take almost an hour for the then Kathar to locate the information. Upon discovering it, he'd take a moment to read it over before taking what was important. He'd do that for thirty minutes and took what he needed.

Just as he began to sneak out of the room, he'd get spotted by one of the coven members. The coven member was much bigger than Connak and also far stronger as well. The coven member would evilly grin and then went right onto the attack by charging right at Connak. In one swift motion, Connak would roll off to the side and pulled out his dagger.

"I'm amused by the eety beety teeny tiny spy and his tiny toothpick. I'm going to have fun ripping your head off. Perhaps, I'll skin you and use it as clothing." The coven member would taunt with a deep, sinister voice.

Connak wouldn't say anything in reply, instead, he'd stand up and ran right at the burly enemy. The coven member would remain where he stood and took up a wrestling stance. Connak would quickly slide underneath his enemy's legs and would then quickly pop back up onto his feet. The coven member would try to grapple Connak but missed completely as the rogue slid past. Since Connak was quick on his feet, he'd take the opportunity to stab his foe in the back. The coven member would fall forward onto his knee and Connak followed and leaned in close to whisper something to him.

"When you get to the void, tell them that Connak sent you." He'd whisper with a devilish tone of voice.

Connak would violently rip his dagger out of the coven member's back and then swiftly dragged his dagger against the already downed enemy's neck. After that, Connak would sheath his dagger, collected the intel he needed and eventually snuck out of the base. Upon exiting the base, the rogue would run and the flashback would stop just as he smirked a devilish smirk.

Coming back to reality, Connak would make it to the docks of Crookback bay. A sudden voice would come from behind him.

"It took you long enough."

"I ran into some trouble."

"So, where's the money?"

"I got it right here."
Connak would say with a slight smirk as he reached for something under his coat…
