Maximillian was retelling the story of how he was baking cookies with Heidi, a servant back at Bornholm, when suddenly a ripple was seen in the thick, murky water. Then, he let out a scream as the Kyanprat darted away, it's doggish head appearing over the water only temporarily. The group spread out, trying to anticipate its movements. Milahme and Samuel made for higher ground themselves, as Linus and Alistair stood on either side of Maximillian, with his head barely above the water. The two managed to keep Max alive by distracting the Kyanprat as Milahme and Samuel plugged arrows into the beast, however this was largely ineffective because arrows do not fly well through water. Hurting the beast while it was completely submerged was a fool's task.
The great beast snatched at Alistair's right hand while the Earl tried to block its lunge. Not only did the Kyanprat snap the spear in half, Alistair's hand was caught in its gaping jaw. Exclaiming, "Shit!" In that instant, the bones of his hand and lower forearm crackled and snapped like a fresh log on a newly lit campfire. Milahme and Samuel take many potshots at the beast, but the apex predator only ceded when Linus jabbed it in the underbelly with his spear. The animal's jaw loosened, blood dripping profusely from Alistair's arm as it darted off. The group chose not to pursue it, for it had two injured. They returned to the pack donkey nearby, which they reasoned the Kyanprat ignored due to its miscalculation of the animal's size due to the diameter of the legs.
The donkey carried Alistair while Samuel and Linus took Maximillian, though Linus tended to "accidently" jostle the Duke. On the way back, Alistair received a severe infection on his injured arm. The arm swelled while the Earl was bedridden with an incredibly high fever as well as hallucinations. Milahme never left his side during the ordeal, and insisted the others be separate so that they could be alone together. Maximillian was able to recover, however he would not be able to stand on his own, let alone walk, for another two weeks due to a broken leg. The actual boat trip back to Regalia was dead silent, however, as the entire group wished to forget the events that unfolded on their vacation to Fendarfell.
