It would be an icy day that the Black Carrack sailed west of Regalia, docking in a port town in Ithania for only a few nights. Captained by Philip Black partnered by Roxanne Lampero, and aided by crew additions Iga Chlodek, Emrik Ebonhelm, and Rhunor Drahzas, the crew's destination would never be reached by boat. The goal was to arrive on the Red Coast, however little did Philip Black know of the change in landmass in Jorrhildr. Only during the hottest month in the summer do the ice plates around the Red Coast thaw, and the days were soon fading to autumn. The Black Carrack slid into a bulky patch of ice with minimal hull damage; nothing that couldn't be fixed. If this was no indication of the luck the group was to experience, was the Black Expedition in for one hell of a ride.
Philip left his cabin followed by Roxanne. Even though they were covered head to toe in warm garments provided by House Black, the winds slapped their faces like cold little razors. A storm to the north has lowered the temperature to negative thirty degrees. As Philip stepped to the side of the Carrack to leave, he turned only to find Roxanne standing within the doorframe of the cabin. She shook her head once, and retreated within, closing the door lightly. Philip sighed, but could do nothing else as he led the remaining three others onto the dangerous ice plates.
The group slowly made their way to the town they had intended on docking at. It was a medium sized town, small by Ceardian standards, though not lacking in friendly faces. The group set to work immediately, asking the many different Ur. This progress in itself did not take too long; Iga was welcomed as a sister, and nobody really paid any attention to the Seraph Ruins anyway. With the location of the ruin in hand, the group was able to make their way to the edge of town. The Dozorcovka took immediate notice of Iga walking through, but luckily Philip Black was with her. The Ur patrols did not want to risk a political incident with Regalia, so they looked the other way as the group went on their way.
The storms turned for the worse as Philip's group left the town. They travelled for a day in the harsh weather, leaving deep footprints in the gathering snow. Rhunor stood straight to give his sore joints a break from the walk, but he noticed something in his vision. As he turned to the side, his back slowly popping at each vertebra, he caught sight of several black dots. As the Thylan approached, it was clear that it was a hunting party of about eight strong who caught trace of Iga. Rhunor called the group to attention, and they turned and prepared to fight.
Two of the Thylan drove straight towards Iga. Seeing this, Rhunor rose a stone wall using his Stone Magic. This wall smacked the Thylan from the underside, propelling them into the air. Iga caught them, smashing their heads together. Iga then moved forward like a brute gorilla charging towards three of the Thylan that were assailing Philip, smacking one on the head with her paw from above. She grabbed the ankles of another, lifted the Thylan into the air, and brought it down like a hammer on its last remaining kin. The three turned their attention to Emrik, who was clearly suffering against the other three. Rhunor dispatched one of the Thylan by smashing it in the ribs with an axe created with Stone. Iga followed in suit, driving a punch towards the Thylan that would snap its spine. At this point, Philip was clumsily making his way through the snow, but was not able to get to the Thylan in time. The final Thylan drove its spear towards Emrik, and the Dwarf was unable to jump out of the way in time due to the deep snow from the raging storm. Emrik was left with a huge gash on his arm, but Philip impaled the Thylan through the back before it could finish the dwarf off.
Philip, wishing to get started as soon as possible, looked at his group and came to a realization. It was thirty degrees below zero, and a member of his group was injured. If Emrik wasn't treated soon, he could lose his arm to the cold. Furthermore, the weather did not look like it was about to let up. Philip sighed, and for once, made the proper decision to turn around and head back to the ship in order to protect the wellbeing of his group members.
The group stumbled through the harsh weather, unable to see more than twenty feet beyond them due to the incredibly snow storm picking up. Nearly one hundred feet in front of them, however, was a large beast that had been tracking their movements for the past twelve hours. The beast, detecting the group in front of it, began to pick up its pace. Emrik, who was being helped along through the deep snow by Rhunor, was the first to detect it. He started saying, "Stop, stop…" but the group paid no attention to the warnings until the stomping was closer. As it got closer and closer, Iga identified the behemoth of a beast as the Frosthorn, a large, lumbering animal the size of an Ogre. This beast supported itself on its forearms, and had an apelike head with large antlers sprouting from its skull. The beast was covered in white fur, and growled in the winter wind.
Rhunor dropped Emrik immediately, raising a stone shield to block the Frosthorn's first clobber towards Iga. Iga, in turn, jumped around the pillar to get at the Frosthorn from the side. She punched and flailed as the beast banged on the stone wall, confused. Eventually it turned its attention to Iga, licking its lips with a purple tongue, for it knew of the distinct and rare taste of an Ur. The beast raised its arms, swinging madly to begin to clobber at Iga. The Ur, however, was nearly three quarters the height of the beast, so she took all of these blows with ease. As Iga began to tire out, she grabbed one of the arms of the Frosthorn, bending it to immobilize the beast. This gave Philip the time he needed to draw his sword, sneaking under the great beast's large upper body and poking the blade into its neck. Not waiting for one if its brothers to show up, the group made off towards the ship.
Philip's party returned to the ship. As they moved away from the mainland, the storm began to calm. It seemed as though they would not have any trouble leaving: that is, if it weren't for the large band of Northerners closing in on the group. Roxanne stood on the deck, screaming for the group to get on the ship as the crew made the preparations get out of there. Iga took Emrik from Rhunor, lifting the weakened Dwarf onto her back and running towards the ship. Even though Rhunor had shorter legs, he made it to the ship before Philip due to Philip's clumsiness on the ice. The Northerne war band was closing in just as Philip grasped ahold of the ropes on the side of the ship, pulling himself up as the ship made away just in time. The Northerners resorted to chipping off pieces of ice and throwing them at the ship, but their aim was nowhere near adequate to do any actual damage.
In the end, House Black did not lose much in terms of profit, besides that of basic supplies such as food and flint. It was a good thing Roxanne stayed behind, because if it weren't for her decisive actions in preparing the ship to get out, the crew would not have been able to get the party out in time. Only Emrik had any sort of injury, which Roxanne cleaned and wrapped for the journey home in preparation for stitching that would be done at the Helsenhaus Clinic.
