Ever heard of the CIA run Operation MKUltra? I'm sure many of you have, and many of you haven't. For those of you who don't know or want to hear more about it, here is the gist. Feel free to skip these next couple paragraphs if you already know everything.

Basically, in the mid 20th century, the US government began to test human psychology. It began with some simple tests like human reactions and how we respond to different situations. All done in an attempt to better interrogate prisoners, help in wars, and to know how to make people do what they want. Sounds all fine and dandy, until you get into the next phase. It was all amped up to 11. Mind control. This may all sound like a conspiracy theory, or a joke. But no. There are records of it in the CIA headquarters, government statements, and entire books written on it. Indeed it happened.

Now, back to mind control. Sounds farfetched, but they got results. Not in a simple way. No. Through the use of LSD and other drugs to get what they wanted out of the test subjects. And these test subjects could have been anyone. Aerosol LSD was pumped into towns, nursing homes, elementary schools, and colleges. Agents watched how they acted. Some went insane. Some killed themselves. And it wasn't just in the air. No. They also slipped it into people's drinks, food, makeup, anything they could. And they watched through windows, cars, one-way mirrors. They even tested in Canada, no permission as far as I'm aware.

Now, there are some specifics that I won't go into. Some operations that are not kid friendly. Not saying that the rest of it was very E for Everyone, but it's better then some of the projects.

Now, the debate. Should the government have been allowed to do this? In my opinion, I'm all for expanding out scientific knowledge. However, I think they they went a bit too far. If they toned it down a bit, or had volunteers, it would have been much better. I personally think the government want overboard. There should have been compensation or counselling afterward to help the victims.

The rules are:
No flaming, use of all caps, screaming, or harassment. And cases of this will be deleted or reported in need be.

Don't bring up anything that would lead to flame. Should a flame war start, I will have this thread locked. Don't do it. Simple as that.

Respect the opinions of others. They are valid. They should be treated as such.

Don't spam this thread. Don't keep commenting without a reason. Unless you want to throw something in that is on topic and constructive, the post will be deleted.

Stay on topic. This thread in about MKUltra and government testing. Don't start talking about your date tonight or the new episode of (insert favorite show here). They belong elsewhere. Not here.

Don't be offensive. Unless your giving you opinion for the debate, stay neutral. Don't offend the other side.

Other then that, let the debates........ BEGIN!

For every scientific step forward, two "bad" sciences are born. I think that the only we we will be able to expand our knowledge, technology, and science is by knowing everything, be it good or bad. Who knows what this can lead to. For say, IF an alien civilization were to come down to earth, phazers blazing, we could use this a way to know a bit more about their biology and phycology. This can also be used to bring down gangs, and other such things.
