    Omar al-Raptum

    Basic Info

    Full Name:
Omar Sadit abd al-Hamid aal Raptus

Meaning: The Populous, Hardworking, servant of the Praiseworthy of Raptum

Nickname(s): Omar al-Raptum, Muqaran Almasarie (Horned Gladiator)

    Age: 54

    Gender: Male

    Race: Songaskian (Askaisyam Heritage)

    Sexuality: Straight

Preferred Weapon: A blackened steel Khopesh with brass inlays and black leather wrapped handle, a matching blackened steel Acinaces dagger and brass round shield.

Position in Regalia: Though many may be wary of him in the higher echelons of Regalia due to his obvious Songaskian heritage and stature his easy going nature tends to lead to people forming some rather strong opinions of him rather quickly, allowing him to move along people a little easier. Though he certainly isn’t free of those who wish to stand in strong opposition.

Upbringing: Omar was the child of slave parents, being born into slavery himself. He worked hard doing what was needed, moving goods, toiling in the fields and training when not.

Over time this led to him bulking up, growing tall as well as muscular. It was not long before his slave masters realized this and put him to use in the gladiator pits, expecting to get a bit of extra money from him but not expecting him to excel to the level he did, becoming a frequent champion and fan favourite.

Ambitions: A lot of Omar’s immediate future ambitions involve following Saladin’s orders in whatever way brings a smile to his face, living life large. Though there is a certain draw to honing his combat craft, he has toyed with the idea of maintaining a more calm and collected attitude to allow him more diplomatic opportunities but so far it has not panned out too well.

    Skill Info

    [Core]Sword Combat (10)
Sword Combat covers the usage of any blade weapon that can reasonably be wielded with one hand, except when they should fall under the other blade-like categories. This includes regular swords, falxes, longswords, scimitars, falchions, and more. Points invested into this skill allows the more proficient wielding of such weapons, both for their slashing techniques and piercing techniques, but also their means to deflect incoming attacks with the blade.
    [Core]Dagger Combat (10)
Dagger Combat covers the usage of small blades that are typical for their speed over damage. This includes weapons such as daggers, stilettos and knives. Points invested in this skill dictates the striking speed and balance of such weapons, and the ability to pinpoint exact locations where to strike and quickly land a blow.
    [Core]Shielding Combat (5)
Shielding Combat covers the use of shields, from small bucklers to large tower shields that protect the whole body. More Proficiency points invested increases the ability of the shield's wielder to protect themselves and those potentially behind them from melee attacks. When it concerns Technique counters, the size of the shield does not matter, they are just an aesthetic choice. Shielding has additional mechanics when it comes to countering Ranged Techniques. These Counters only work if the Character is wearing a shield on them and using it.
    After 4 Points
-Heavy Shot can be deflected by the Shield when shot at the Character.
-Light Shot can be deflected by the Shield when shot at the Character.
-Brittle Shot can be deflected by the Shield when shot at the Character.
-Belt Shot is unaffected, even if the shield gets hit by the shot, the effect transfers to the shield bearer.
    [Talent]Strength Training (10)
Strength Training is a simple and flat representation of time spent lifting weights and bulking muscle mass. This is why it counts higher in Physical Stat contribution than other Proficiencies. This Proficiency is also relevant for labor intensive activities, like mining, wood-cutting, hauling, demolition, etc. Additionally, several Abilities (from the Ability List) are gained after a number of Proficiency Points invested:
After 5 Points invested in Strength Training, the following Ability is (mandatory) gained for free:

    Great Force 1 | Constant Passive |
Self After 10 Points invested in Strength Training, the following Ability is (mandatory) gained for free:
Gate Smash 1 | Trigger Passive | Direct Touch
    [Talent]Perception Training (10)
Perception Training makes the person more situationally aware of what is happening around them, as well as what is being done at them. This Proficiency does not grant Abilities, but grants specific Ability immunity or Counters, gained at 5 points invested or 10 points invested. As such, a person can only have 5 or 10 points invested, anything in between will not grant additional benefits. Consult the Ability List for full descriptions on the Abilities listed in the Counters. After 5 Points invested in Perception Training, the following Abilities are Countered Rogue Gift 1 is immediately countered when someone tries to use this Ability on the Character, a second roll may not be attempted and the first failed roll is discovery. Rogue Gift 2 cannot be used when interacting with the Character. Anyone attempting to dictate the /dice roll with Rogue Gift 2 must roll like normal, though the cooldown is not used up. Rogue Gift 3 does not work on the Character, being able to see through the written fabrication, so long as they have seen the real author's hand writing before. It does not give them the means to prove that the writing is fake, they will only know for certain that it is. Rogue Gift 4 partially works on the Character. The user of Rogue Gift 4 will still have their handheld items muted, but their footsteps are detectable to the Character. After 10 Points invested in Perception Training, the following Abilities are Countered Rogue Gift 5 is immediately countered when someone tries to use this Ability on the Character. They are unable to avoid the initial spotting so long as it was done by the person with Perception. The Character also becomes able to see through Guard Forgery Pack and Government Forgery Pack papers, able to see that the stamps are fake. This does not however give them the ability to prove to others that they are fake, only know for certain that they are.
    [Talent]Bodycare Training (5)
Bodycare Training includes training for many Bodycare related activities, including but not limited to: fitness training, dietary advice, hair care & dyeing, skin care, massage and other such activities to take care of a person’s body (but not including tattoos or piercings, which fall under Body Art). Putting points towards this Proficiency increase the skill with which all of these activities are done. This Proficiency grants additional Abilities at 5 and 10 points invested. Because this Proficiency still has a skill detached from these Abilities (unlike Perception Training), investing points between 5 and 10 is still worth it. Additionally, A character with 10 Proficiency Points invested can use the "Sculpted" Body Shape regardless of Physical Stat. This Body Shape is equivalent to Muscular/Ripped Body Shape but with more peak aesthetic, and also allows the Character to change the Body Shape of other Characters through Personal Training. After 5 Points invested in Bodycare Training, the following Ability is (mandatory) gained for free:
Skin Purge 1 | Toggle Passive | Self
    [Hobby]Body Art (10)
Body Art includes the art of Tattooing, scarring art, body piercings, and other Mundane body modifications. Higher Proficiencies lead to better depictions and implementation of body art, with better technique.
Songaskian Racial Boost Body Art (10)

Clothing: Practical and fairly minimal, made for combat and mobility.

    Height: 6’4”

Head Description: Omar sports a wide jaw and carved brow, strong features such as grimacing lips and a solid nose adorn his face. White angled brows and sunken eyes give him an intimidating countenance, not aided by notable scars over his lip and nose bridge. Straight white hair often tumbles down from his head over his shoulders but is just as often shaved back to stubble. What remains more often however is a pair of horns, signs of his pride in his Songaskian heritage after years of slavery.

Body Description: A large frame, wide and roped with thick musculature that compliments his sheer height. Scars run along his arms and torso from many a barely failed attack. Fairly often one may find him painted with songaskian pattern body art, representative of his victories in the arena and meant to spur on a crowd or put fear into an enemy.

He is, in more potentially dangerous combat situations also seen coated in the thick dragonscale hide of the Songaskians, relying on its defense and more intimidating aesthetic to overcome the enemy.

Fashion Description: He is often wearing items that make him ready for battle, pauldrons and vambraces, tall leather boots, decorative trophies and bolts of bright red cloth to show his allegiance. It is rare that he puts on more formal wear but when the occasion calls for it he dons more traditional Songaskian attire, tight fabric that sits under his combat gear.

When the situation calls for it and he deems it a little too dangerous to rely on his dragonscale he will don some extra armour, a black gambeson.

Voice Description: His voice is deep, resonating in his large frame with a gruff rasp that can cut through most conversation, his songaskian accent still thick and plainly obvious, a trait he is rather keen on. His words however are often rather friendly, laid back and easy going most of the time despite their outgoing, louder nature.

    Personality

Character Alignment: Chaotic Neutral. Unpredictable and given to flights of fancy. He often does what he finds entertaining at the time, be that exploring, drinking or fighting. Though you can be fairly certain he won’t be acting out of any sense of lawful conviction or maligned intent, you never can quite be sure what his actions will be.

Personality Type: ENFP, Campaigner. Though often chaotic and uncertain and, to some people, a serious threat, there is little that Omar would do that is not in some way enthusiastic, doing what he desires as he desires to do so. Whilst his duties and enjoyments sit on a wide spectrum, from menial work to killing, he is rarely seen without a smile.

Religion: He did not grow up terribly religious, not finding many reasons to believe in such a thing, preferring the practical and physical, the things that he can see and interact with over that which required faith. This changed somewhat during his time with Saladin. He is still not prone to true religious fervor but his loose following of Shambala is a clear influence from his leader.

Weaknesses: With a smile on his face or not Omar’s drive can often be a downfall of his. It is true that he works tirelessly, pushing to what he believes is the best solution for the greatest outcome based on the situation or orders before him, but this brashness has also often put him in opposition to those on his side or those opposing him, leading him into dangerous situations physically and making diplomatic situations considerably harder than needs be.

To a man with a hammer, everything looks like a nail. As his previous leaders have found, proper application is key.

Quirks: Thanks to his size it is quite often hard to find a comfortable location for the man to rest so you can often find Omar fidgeting, shifting his weight, stretching his muscles or pulling at one of his horns. It is rarely enough of an issue to put him in a bad mood but it certainly makes him no less noticeable.

Dislikes: If there is one thing that will swiftly put him in a bad mood however it is sly misconduct. Scheming and plotting run counter to his entire person, seeing a straightforward quite often fairly brash but honest way of dealing with things as the fairest to allow the stronger of the two sides prevail but subterfuge and going behind people's backs truly doesn’t sit well with him.

    Life Story

Omar grew up in abject poverty, his parents themselves being born into slavery, his ancestors slave soldiers in the armies of the Farah’deen. His parents had attempted to jump the compound fence to safety when he was a young child yet it had failed and only drawn the slave owners attention. His father now worked as a guard for their master as his mother raised him whilst she was brutally worked under crushing manual labour.

His life of immediate hardship kept him on his toes however, pushing him to grow mentally and physically, becoming a large man in musculature and in height yet his outlook staying unendingly positive, even under such pressure. He despised the conditions he toiled under and did what he could to lessen them but to his friends and family that worked alongside him his carefree nature was a beacon of hope.

It wasn’t until he was a young adult that this began to truly rub his master the wrong way. The next thing he knew he had found himself within the fighting pits, sand under his feet, a crowd at his back and an opponent before him. If he lost it removed a problem for his owner but if he won he was making more money for them than he ever could in the fields or moving cargo.

It became swiftly obvious that he was a natural, pulling his weight, challenging his way through the ranks and becoming a beloved champion. It was over this time that he made friends with many of the other arena fighters, learning new combat styles to utilise or oppose, one mysterious stranger was well-verse in the School of Turall style of dual wielding which suited him incredibly well.

To top it all off the crowd loved him for his bravado and brutal efficiency, riling up the audience with his chants and laughter before charging in with a Khopesh and dagger to overwhelm his opponents or shrugging off their attacks with shield and scale only to strike back twice as hard, always recognisable thanks to his Songaskian horns he maintained, proudly protruding from his brow.

It was during this time as a Gladiator that he caught the eye of one known then as Saladin ad’Alamut. The figure approached Omar’s owner after the days fighting and made him an offer he could not refuse, riches and connections he could barely dream of to simply loan out the fighter for a time.

What the owner did not expect however was for Saladin to form a close bond with Omar so as to learn what he could about the encampment before letting Omar lead him to the perimeter wall, a number of Saladin’s own men in pursuit to perform a night time raid to free the gladiators family and friends and have them join his own cause. It was that night that Omar learned that sometimes jumping over one's obstacles is less effective than breaking through them.

This gesture of kindness from Saladin has been repaid in unmoving loyalty from Omar ever since, the slave owner not only finding much of his ‘property’ gone but the wealth he had been afforded linked directly back to a string of caravan robberies that had accumulated quite the bounty.
