Basically, the subject. This is not whining, a pity party, a rant, or anything like that.

I used to think that RP was the one thing in massive I wasn't horrible at, but lately I seem to have been proven wrong in every possibke way. Every group or chapter or anything I apply to rejects me, one of them won't tell me why, one because I'm "Just not right for this chapter" and one because I need to improve my RP...when I asked why (for the 1st one) no response. When I asked if IC or OOC, (second one) no response. When I asked how I should improve and what I should work on, (last one) no response. Someone had even asked an extremely similar question that the person in question answered while ignoring mine.

The only conclusion I can come to is that somehow I've ended up like another forum member, and no one "important" wants anything to do with me and wants to reject for any reason they can, and no matter how much I work and improve, everyone will still see me as the same person I was before. I don't know much about the other person this has happened to, so my information may be wrong.

When I came back to Massive I hoped it would be better than it was before. I thought it was at first, but I was quickly proven wrong. I'm going to start trying to learn PvP only because I like the people of massive and I want to stay, but i'm even worse at that than I apparently was at RP. I'm not leaving Massive (yet).

This will not affect my forum activity, so if you were planning on applying to The Eye or The Crown Isle Informer, because I don't want my problems to affect other people's RP. My character apps will stay up, and I still want them reviewed so that if I decide to I can give them to people already approved.

If anyone disagrees with this, or wants me to keep RPing, tell me, but i doubt this thread will get any replies at all.

Don't give up buddy, I've seen newbies that have gone from having no punctuation or grammar to becoming stellar rpers. I'd personally study your rp and gauge it if I could but unfortunately I've never the chance to catch you online. Timezones, perhaps- but don't lose heart!

Everyone starts out at the bottom. If you choose to stay there, the fault rests on you alone. You can always make it to the top, if you have the determination and patience to do so.
 
You got this, some people just get a bad rep at the start, but that never sticks unless you let it stick. And from what I have seen, you ain't a bad RP'er.

Then I guess seems like the problem isn't in my actual RP quality, it's in either my forums join date or my reputation.

I honestly can't tell if my RP is good or bad or not because my friends say it's good but other people say it's not. I honestly don't know how I got such a bad reputation.
 
I was at this point once where I thought anything I did would just push me further into the hole that I'd dug myself, but I found that the saying "Practice makes perfect" is correct to some degree. You'll never be perfect, but you will definitely get better if you try.

People also give great advice if you ask them to critique you on your roleplay ability. The key to improving from this is to not take offense from the negative points they give you, otherwise people will be scared to give you the honest criticism that you need to improve.

Asking for criticism from your friends is a bad idea since most of them will be biased to only give you the good points because they like you. Try asking people you've never met before and go from there.

I appreciate the input, but everyone I have RPed with and then directly asked said I was good and they didn't really have any tips to give me (these were mainly Petrine members). Only two people have really ever flat out said that I wasn't a good RPer, and the one in question had no input whatsoever, pretty much just said "improve your RP quality" and ignored every method and time I asked how he thinks I should do that or what I need to improve on.

It seems like the only way to advance in RP and move on from simple conversations at the tavern or going to events requires you to apply to something, and everything I apply to I am rejected.
 
Favorite me in game and toss me a pm when you're on, Jack. My mc is the same as my forum name. I'll provide a brutally honest evaluation of your rp and any input I may offer to improve it.
 
Honestly, your forums join date doesn't matter. Hey, look at mine, I only joined at the start of this year! As Aespair said, practice makes perfect with everything.
 
listen man I may not have any redeeming qualities but I will have u know that I am the biggest cheese

also imma tell you right now that you won't get anywhere by quitting and that quitting is for losers. so don't be a loser, keep sucking until you eventually stop sucking.
 
dont give up there are some tips like here is what i do
-DONT YOU DARE GIVE UP!
- create a character completely unlike you
- READ TONS OF LORE
-get a feel of the timeset using the rpack
-make a dark skin
-have TONS of review on your app
-equal out negative and positive traits (the more negative the better)
-stay in your character's area (ie vamps stay in the sewers)
-dont stick out of the crowd
-dont create a "perfect sunflower"
-make sure that your character has flaws
-Rewrite sheets if they dont work well
-have fun

Dude, I'm not letting you to quit. You actually have a good sense of writing, and amazing ideas. I don't feel as safe talking in public about some stuff, but I'll PM you later. Just, DON'T leave.
 
Don't leave, Jack. I'm in a similar situation, and I think that maybe... My char isn't meant for that Charter, or maybe we should give it a rest?
I don't know, build a map or something. Ignore Massivecraft for a while, then come back and enjoy it, rediscover it again.

Trust me, it works.

tbh i don't think it's either of our chars that's the problem, i think it's us OOC.

Dearest friend that I have not met yet. I have read your dilemma and as someone who has seen quite a few things (despite not being up to date) I am plenty willing to help you. If you want us to be brutally honest, then I will take it upon myself to be as honest as necessary.

Your attitude needs an adjustment. It seems you are already giving up on yourself, and though I am a hypocrite for saying it, you need more confidence. Be proud of who you are! I am learning so that one day I can go from Miss_Confined to Miss_Confident! (See what I did there? ;D ) anyway. You need to be able to assess why you have a supposed 'bad rep' personally, I have not heard of you before. Probably because you are a little new here. But that's okay! I feel that with some mentoring and some love and support you can do great. And not the love and support of others. I mean the love and support of yourself. Be a self-advocate. Be outgoing and put yourself out there. Be your awesome self, dude!
If you need help, which it seems you are asking for, instead of "ragequitting" as the hip folk around here say, take the advice of others.
@Aespair made wonderful points and by far is one of the greatest people on this server. If you need additional help make a forum PM and I'll see what I can do.
 
I'll toss in my 2¢, as I imagine I am one of those who turned you down for an organizational position. A big turn off to me is when someone:
  • Applies to every organization they see
  • Has so many characters they can't put much effort into one
  • Makes a new character every other week because they "get bored" or don't get the results they want
These are big red flags to me and tell me a story about a player's loyalty and reliability. My advice to you is that your roleplaying shouldn't be about the goal. The journey and the roleplaying that comes along with it determines whether a character is successful or not.

I hope this helps and wish you good luck wherever you end up.
 
YOU DON'T HAVE A BAD RAP, I HAVE ROLEPLAYED WITH SOMEONE WITHOUT EVEN LOOKING AT THERE NAME AND THEN OOC said "0ooooh hey"!

@DrFong No, it wasn't you. I haven't applied yet to you, but if accepted Im going to focus on that. What I do is apply to different things I like, and if i'm accepted to one I focus on it. Haven't been accepted to anything so haven't had to worry about it. I recently realized I have too much going on in RP so i consolidated everything and decided to abandoned two of my characters and mostly abandon one of them, and am going to possibly abandon one more depending on how things go. I am maiming Phillip, and my new Ur character. If things don't work out with my Ur character, I'm going to switch back to Phillip and Finwe. If things don't work out for Kovic (Ur) or Finwe, i'm just going to focus 100% on Phillip.

Mainly, I'm talking about guard chapters...I applied to one, rejected, made my own chapter, rejected, reapplied to the first after getting skype, rejected, different chapter, rejected, different chapter, rejected. Applied to Noble House guard, temporarily rejected but i'm working on that, I just have to RP with the person.

I just realized maybe i've been trying to focus on RP that just doesn't work well for me, because a lot of the stuff I've been trying to do relates towards one thing (being a guard) so i'm gonna try a bunch of different things (Brute Squad, idk what else)

Everyone, i'm looking for some suggestions on new things to learn and try instead of the Violet Order
 
I'm only going to try the next thing if i'm not accepted to brute squad. I am still looking for suggestions for things to try if that doesn't work out.

"Convince me not to leave" threads are a bigger turn off than "I'm leaving" threads. Equally illegal because they lack constructive content for our forum. So locking.
