"Amrynn, *meldanya, what are you doing?"
From her place swaying gently in the hammock, she asked with a small chuckle. Watching her son try desperately to pull a carrot free from the ground. The young Cielothar had been successful, for a few moments in his harvest. A pile of five carrots stacked neatly a top a kerchief in the grass next to him. None of them were very big, but he was proud of them nonetheless. After all, every direction his mother had given him was dutifully followed; perhaps the watering part a bit too seriously...
Though, the very last carrot to be harvested was proving to be a stubborn root. His tiny hands had dug a little dirt away to get a firm grasp, but no matter how hard he tugged, it made little difference.
"It won't come out of the ground! It's the last one."
"Let it grow a while longer then, Honey Bee. Come swing with me."
Huffing, a firm glare directed towards the ground holding his hard work hostage, he agreed. Both hands patted off against his pants despite the look his mother gave him. Each step taken towards the hammock that swung low between two trees an obvious sulk."Let it grow a while longer then, Honey Bee. Come swing with me."
"I don't like gardening, *amil."
He grumbled, climbing into the hammock to sidle up against her side. Wind chimes hung up in the high branches of the trees jingling with the slight change in the hammocks weight. The gentle sound taking some of the young Nelfin's edge away, though Nestyla's arm looping around him and hugging him tight melted the rest.
Like snow under the warmth of the unbridled sun.
"There are many things in life you will not like, Honey Bee. Some of them you will have to do anyway."
Responding with a begrudged hum of acknowledgement, his attention wandered. The sweet hum of his mother's voice, her fingers gently sifting through his hair, all lulling him into a daze. Clouds dancing past the sun as it started to set in the meadow let the tranquility of life blend into one, quiet ambiance. Birds quieting their songs and other little creatures hopping about for a quick meal before their homecoming for the night.
Several thoughts suddenly collided in Amrynn's mind, all at once. The awareness, while his mind was free to wander on the wind, that the things he may have to do could be awful, terrible ones. His typical sweet, airy voice uncharacteristically heavy."Amil,"
"Yes?"
"What if the things are bad..."
Nestyla was quiet in consideration. Her gentle combing through the honey colored locks of Amrynn's hair pausing to pull him closer. A kiss placed at the top of his head."You think, meldanya, about who will be affected. If it is more than you, you do not do it.
You do no harm to others."
