    Character Information
    Full Name: Nishtara
    Race/Culture: Devata Slizzar
    Gallovian culture, Talahm-Gall region
    Age: 140
    Birthday: June 24, 174
Gender: Genderless, usually feminine-presenting or androgynous
    Pronouns: They/She
    Sexuality: Asexual Panromantic
Occult: Primal God Magic (Gallovian Fornoss - Eilirik)
    Core Concept
Nishtara is a traveling Devata seeking to explore all the peoples and cultures of the world in a way that only a Slizzar can, but also trying to balance it with their old culture and identity. They are, above all, a curious soul, seeking to make new friends and discover new things, but are also often driven by a need to horde information and shape their world as they see fit. Given their detachment from the Dragons and Great Game, they find themself isolated from more traditional Slizzar while also feeling out-of-place among the Ailor.

    Appearance Information
Natural Form - Nishtara 'stands' at six-foot tall with a ten-foot tail and a slim androgynous torso. Their scales are midnight-black with splotches of light-blue on their chest and underside, all speckled with silver dots resembling stars. Often, Nishtara uses their abilities to make these actually twinkle like stars, but they don't on their own. Dark-blue antler-like horns branch from above their eyes and are often decorated with silver jewelry. Their 'hair' is purple fading to blue and reaches to what would be hip-length for a humanoid, each tendril able to move independently. Their eyes are a solid bright purple with a slitted pupil.
Everyday Form - Nishtara has two 'selves' which they use for ease of interaction with non-Slizzar. One, their half-shift form, is rarely used in Regalia anymore and varies according to Nishtara's preference, but typically is of a half-Maquitxl Ailor woman with patches of starry scales and purple eyes revealing their Slizzar nature. This shift is often used for initial reconnaissance or when they feel safe enough to be openly Slizzar. Nowadays, they usually prefer to go about in their birth-shape, a Gallovian woman called Rionna Declan. Ideally, they would prefer to incorporate the two, but are protective of Rionna's identity and so avoids compromising it when possible.
Other Shifts - Nishtara uses multiple 'faces' for exploration, information-gathering, and other purposes, but these are distinct from their more regular 'selves' in that they don't usually have strong relationships or lives beyond their intended purpose. The appearance of each is a mix of self-expression and blending in, usually taking an androgynous appearance and incorporating natural or celestial motifs.

    Plot Hooks
Between Worlds - Nishtara has a complicated relationship with their sibling, feeling both great attachment to them and fearing for their soul after they abandoned the Gods for the Dragons. Similarly, they are interested in having relationships with other Slizzar, but feel isolated from them due to their rejection of the dragons. They are most comfortable around other Devata while maintaining wary respect for Mauli and are most friendly towards Crown Witch, Keeper, and Mentor Archon.
Nishtara's Slizzar parent and mentor are available to be played. Other Slizzar friends and rivals are also welcomed.
Hungry Scholar - There seems to be no end to Nishtara's curiosity and passion for learning, leading them to throw themself into multiple different interests from natural science to religious folklore to magical theory to culture and languages. If there's a mystery to be unraveled or a story to be told, they will certainly be interested in taking careful notes. They love to meet people from new places and hear about their homeland, as well as seeking out connections between things they've already seen or heard about.
They are very well-travelled and have taken many different forms over the years, so it's possible to work in a backstory connection almost anywhere. Additionally, scholar characters in general are encouraged to discuss their research and swap information.

    Life Story

Childhood - Rionna Declan was born beneath a full moon in the summer of 174 in an isolated Talahm-Gall village called Firnacol, just moments before her twin brother Naomhan. Their father was a travelling hunter and was often away, so they were primarily raised by their mother Mairead. There were some whispers surrounding their birth, as they arrived just a bit too soon after their father's brief visit between trading trips, and there had been a handsome stranger spending a lot of time around Mairead several months back, but both children were happy, healthy, and the spitting image of their mother, so the rumors eventually began to settle.
Adolescence - Rionna and Naomhan had a pretty normal childhood and adolescence, learning husbandry and weaving from their mother and learning all about their history, religion, and culture from the village elders, who promised safety and security in tradition even as unrest stirred in lands beyond their village. True to her name, Rionna took a particular shine to the spirits of sky, even spending a short time learning rituals from the Lair-Inniel and being dedicated to the Sky Searcher Greine-Faire when she turned fifteen. This continued until their eighteenth birthday, when strange visions led them out to the moors one moonlit night and they learned that their true father was Slizzar. Naomhan embraced his new nature and the dragons, while Rionna was more apprehensive and preferred the ways of her mother.
Young Adulthood - The twins remained inseparable even into adulthood, sticking close to one another and using their abilities to protect each other from suspicion, though their inexperience led to some clumsy mistakes. This brought about some mutterings among the superstitious villagers and renewed whispers of the strange circumstances surrounding their birth. When their village was pillaged and burned during the Clearances, this fear burst into anger as the unusual siblings were declared harbingers of destruction and driven away from the survivors. Angered by this betrayal, Naomhan struck off on his own to leave the North behind, while Rionna joined a group of survivors bound for Norrland.
Adulthood - Rionna spent several more decades with the Gallovian refugees and Velheim locals in Norrland until keeping up the ruse of Ailor aging forced her to move on. Working her way cautiously south, her curiosity about the dragons brought her to Anglia, where she finally met another Slizzar for the first time and learned of Sassrakand and her father's heritage. She additionally met a half-Isldar woman called Neska there, a Crown Witch who taught her alchemy and of Regulus, Aurora, and Ballas. Eventually, the pair became lovers and lived happily for a couple decades until, one fateful winter, Neska's dedication to healing others cost her own health. Though Nishtara tried desperately to save her, she could not, and she once again began to journey alone, though now keeping Neska's embroidered lavender-scented herb pouch at her hip.
Regalia - Grieving and shaken by this loss, Nishtara began to have a crisis of faith of her own, feeling abandoned by both gods and dragons that allowed their faithful to die needless deaths while serving them. She briefly considered embracing the dragons, reasoning that the gods had probably abandoned her as soon as she became Slizzar, but dared not face the Mirrors and so simply drifted away from faith in general. Eventually, she recieved word that her old mentor was residing in Regalia and travelled to the city to meet them again. Soon after her arrival, she experienced the city's infamous chaos as the Bralona arrived. Despite their banning of religious worship, Nishtara was intrigued by the Northerners that still held to the gods and their steadfast faith that they would endure. When the Occupation was over, Nishtara eventually sought them out and, upon finding a community of familiar people again, cautiously began her return to the gods, albeit very anxious and full of doubt.

    "Well, Adventure, she’s a strange bird -- she’s brazen and she’s shy
She’ll swoop down unsuspecting, but she’ll fly off if you try
To catch her for her feathers, she’ll just show herself in scales
But close your eyes, she’ll brush your cheek with wings of fairy tales"

I've changed their design a bit over time, so some pictures may no longer be accurate. Oldest portraits are at the bottom.

    Original character design sketch.
Rionna Declan - A Gallovian woman with long auburn hair. This is the shift that Nishtara was born with and that they maintained for her early decades with the Ailor. It is their 'everyday' shift, used to reflect themself most accurately while also maintaining their cover.
Anzid Hurin - An Eronidas male with black hair. This is a favored form when wandering Crookback or otherwise feeling threatened, as it acts as a bluff against those that might do them harm.
Ihuicatl Eleuia - An antlered Huactl Maquixtl male, though androgynous in appearance. Upon visiting Floralcourt a few times and finding a variety of people there, Nishtara adopted this shift to integrate into the neighborhood and learn more of their way of life. As they have discovered that people of many kinds are welcome in Floralcourt and finding it difficult to adequately blend in as an Exist-being, they have mostly phased this shift out.
Ryldryl Zyrkiirn - An androgynous Wyld Kathar with night and stag-themed mutations. Full name Ryldryl Marranahk Zyrkiirn Dar-Rana Raz Arrokhemaar. Commonly used when venturing below the city or in more dangerous regions.
Julienne Calaine - An Ithanian woman with blonde hair and green eyes. Full name Julienne Huinousse-Pouvoir Chardon Coeur Calaine Renarde de Lorrais. Mostly used for observing high-society crowds.
Sopdet Mehen - A female Merew Asha with an otter-like head, reddish-brown in color with patches of cream on her belly and dark-brown dapples on her arms and back. Although this identity was formerly "burned" after a previous disaster, it has recently been picked it up again upon Nishtara learning that their old friend, presumed dead, was very much alive and in Regalia. However, it has once again been allowed to disappear as the reason for its existence has vanished.
    On her person
    - An embroidered pouch full of dried herbs and basic first aid/alchemical supplies - smells of lavender
    - A sapphire cormgaltach, hung on a braided leather cord around her neck and shimmering with pale blue light - enchanted with feelings of peace and courage by Eric Daevaar
    - A gold necklace with an orange stone - a gift from Orm
    - A plaid shawl, often draped around her hips, shoulders, or hair (as Rionna)
    - A steel dirk with a blackthorn handle
    - A Rand's Eye amulet - given by Astrid, hung from her belt as Rionna but hidden under clothing otherwise
    - A small jade scale, smooth on one side and rough on the other
    - A Godsamtro radio

    At home
    - A well-worn notebook filled with entries in antiquated Gallwech - on her desk
    - Many books about plants, animals, folklore, cooking, history, and astrology, written in many Northern tongues
    - Alchemy and Godsamtro artificing supplies
    - A large obsidian cube - under a dresser
    - Assorted copper, silver, and gold jewelry - on her closet dresser
These are in order from most important to least. Those in the first section are strongly-held values - Nishtara seeks to hold them regardless of what shift they’re using or whether they’re convenient. The second includes loosely-held virtues - they prefer to uphold these tenants but are prepared to bend on them if it benefits a higher one.
    • Loyalty - Loyalty to kindred, loyalty to the gods, loyalty to your allies. The strongest virtue instilled in Nishtara from both their culture and religion is to be true to your own, which ties in well with her instinctive protectiveness of other Slizzar as well. ‘Kindred’ is a bit of a broad term including blood-relations at the center, ‘chosen-kin’ just beyond that (including close friends and allies), and then ‘birth-kin’ including fellow Gallovians, Slizzar, and Old Gods faithful. Loyalty to the State doesn’t factor in here, though it does discourage explicit disloyalty. Nishtara’s relationship with the State is ambivalent, disliking much of what it stands for but generally avoiding outright antagonism, citing the law of hospitality that host and guest should never assault each other under a shared roof.
    • Knowledge - A restless hunger for knowledge is one of the primary motivating forces for the young Slizzar, who seeks to learn about everything from natural history to interpersonal intrigue to religious philosophy. While loyalty and compassion maintain some boundaries to their search for knowledge, there are times when this hunger takes precedence over the needs or well-being of short-lived strangers. Similarly, “more curiosity than sense” is almost certainly what will one day be on Nishtara’s gravestone.
    • Survival - The world is a dangerous place and, having seen persecution both of their religion and their race, Nishtara tends to regard the world with a wary suspicion that tempers the wondrous curiosity sparked by their quest for knowledge. Believing that you must always look out for yourself because few others will do it for you, they place great emphasis on the need to survive and endure, using their cunning and skills to protect themselves and their kindred through what means they must. This also includes the ‘cut and run’ instinct of the Slizzar, though this is often frustrated by the Northern instinct to stubbornly stand and fight.
    • Freedom - Being born among the Caeren and raised under the open sky, Nishtara has a powerful appreciation for the personal freedom to travel where one pleases, believe as one pleases, and do as one pleases, provided it doesn’t harm others. They hate being confined against their will and chafe against role-expectations forced on them from the outside, though sometimes begrudgingly accept them for the sake of tradition or some other value. Their general philosophy on this matter is ‘live and let live’, which is why they tend to avoid using their mind-control abilities frivolously, though they are much less hesitant to do so to a random stranger than a trusted ally.
    • Secrecy - Perhaps the strongest influence their Slizzar nature has over Nishtara is their instinct for personal secrecy. While quite happy to casually share academic knowledge with friends and allies, they prefer to keep personal details close to their chest, including the truth about their nature. This has the result of making them much more subdued in their habits than others they live among, preferring to observe and work from the sidelines rather than outright drawing attention to themselves in the center. Given their patron among the Aesir, the Prince of Snakes, they have a loose relationship with the notion of truth. While they prefer to be honest to friends and allies for the sake of good relationships, they’re not bothered by bending or breaking the truth for a purpose, and they find entertainment in making statements that are ‘technically’ true while meaning something else.
    • Courage - Though they often project a confident persona to better fit in with the forceful habits of their cultural kin, the reality is that Nishtara often feels quite anxious and full of self-doubt when confronted with challenges or threats. However, they have reframed this into a belief that ‘Courage is action despite fear’ and strive to keep the fear from paralyzing them despite their personal difficulty doing so. Indeed, they often privately question the wisdom or effectiveness of the more bold and brash individuals whose fearless courage is so lauded in Northern cultures, despite still privately admiring and envying them.
    • Compassion - Despite the patchy reputation of Slizzar, Nishtara really does have quite a soft heart for others, especially those they see as being wronged or oppressed in some way. In particular, they believe offering a chance to people regardless of the circumstances of their birth or other things they couldn't control. While this does regularly take a backseat to higher values, given the opportunity to show compassion to one weaker than themself, they will often take it. Similarly, they greatly respect others that have power and use it mercifully, while disdaining those that use it to mistreat others.
    • Pride - The virtue of pride is a bit of a complicated one for Nishtara, who takes pride in both their Gallovian and Slizzar identities, but also struggles with self-doubt and imposter syndrome because of them, as well as often having to keep one or both of them hidden. While they easily “live as if one is already magnificent”, their instinct to hang back and observe before jumping into action will probably keep them from ever becoming truly famous. They harbor a secret envy of the born-Ailor who burn so brightly with their short lives, but still consider themself as Slizzar to be above them.

@Caelamus A bit of an expansion. With the recent change to Society Point Buy allowing for Primal Mages to take Heks Wisdom, I've added that and a new episode in her backstory explaining where it came from. I also added some more notes relating to her religious journey and some cultural flavor, as well as adding the Mount Pack because the Qarresh is cool.

@Caelamus Just updating according to the new packs and Slizzar update. I added Deeplore Wisdom and adjusted the links, as well as added the new Slizzar abilities/racials.
I also did a little rewriting to condense my religion section and tweaked their appearance. I feel like my Life Story has Tribbled in size, so I'm going to try to figure out a good way to condense it and just put the full details in a spoiler, though I don't think that will require a re-review.

@Caelamus Another minor update due to lore/mechanic changes, just removed the now-defunct languages from their list and changed mentions of the Caeren to Gallovian. These are in green, as well as the Deeplore Pack I added a while back. I also condensed their life story a bit, moving the full version to the Extras page.

@Caelamus Another lore-change update. With Altered Power removed, I decided that it better suited the character to be mundane than to be either Exist or Void and opted for trying an engineering build instead. Changes in green.
    - Heks and Dimenthist Wisdom Packs removed, replaced with Memblock and Lifelink Technician Packs
    - Materialism and Mimicry Spell Packs removed, replaced with Climate and Diver Athletic Packs
    - Altered Power removed, Artificer and Technician Specials added
    - Removed mentions of magic, removed mentions of Anglian Witches
    - Updated Ritualism to Old Gods religion

@Caelamus Minor update with the new Archive Wisdom Pack. Probably doesn't require a re-review, but just in case, here's what I did.
    - Removed Medical Artificer in favor of Archive Wisdom (Storvel Circle)
    - Removed 2 Artificer Specials and Slizzar Identityvex (removed from lore)
    - Swapped Starwalking Magic Special for Lifewall
    - Updated Language names to match the Linguistics page
    - Noticed that my pronoun use was inconsistent, so I fixed that.

@Caelamus Sorry, I didn't know there was a Slizzar update upcoming. I added the new specials and replaced some of the point-buy abilities that were either made redundant or disappeared. Slightly tweaked the backstory with the removal of half-Slizzar and with their twin possibly becoming a played character soon. I have a second Archive to choose, but I'm still thinking on whether I want Gray Crown or Girobalda, so I'll just leave a placeholder for now.

Removed Mount Husbandry with the removal of the Presence category and placed that point in Wisdom for Dimenthist Wisdom.
