My mind's inner creativity will not cooperate with me. I've been hoping to make some sort of sagely wizard of sorts to create some rp storylines while also doing what I love; mage rp. I have not been able to make some sort of definite idea, let alone a sheet. I do have some quirks and ideas for this guy, however, which are:

Very old and wrinkled, as I find the average attractive elven mage to be overdone from what I've seen on the server.

Will most likely be a Dwarf, though I am willing to accept an Ailor.

If it's a Dwarf, it will most likely be a Humorinn (I most likely butchered the dwarf subrace), if it's human, probably some form of Northerner.

I plan on this sage being clad in the generic DnD spellcaster garb with the pointy hat and robes. I may be able to accept the idea of some posh nobleman clothing.

I either have the idea of a gentle, kindly wizard, or a more feisty and arrogant one.

Most likely a form of Elemental Magic, though I am willing to go with Soul or Nature magic.

Also, I know the Magic Update will be coming out soon. I plan on just waiting until then to submit the application, though I may also submit the app and then tweak it a bit so it fits the standards of the new magic format when the Magic Update occurs. I know this is generally my character and my choice, though I'm also taking the community's tastes into account to see which one people will naturally align towards.

With all that out of the way, which combination do you think is best?

Well, it is expected that at first only around 20 people will get the magic waiver and even then it requires a special permission to make a mage character. But for the chance that you do eventually achieve it, I will give my views.

  • If they are old it's best to make one that is just starting to age because they can only live for 20 years longer after they start, if not less. But this would also mean a long backstory because they've lived for at max 180 years before starting to age.
  • If it does end up being a dwarf they will most likely end up being very fat due to their strong body-type. Just thought I'd point that out. The only problem with Ailor is that Expert forms can take over 100 years to learn so if you want a really experienced one I would go for Altalar, or any other Elven race you find suitable.
  • Well if you do decide to use that type of clothing it probably shouldn't have anything like jewels or anything too expensive unless you have a good backstory to explain how they got it. Also dyes can be very expensive and I thought it should be something to consider. You should at least know Purple is the hardest to get.
  • Nothing wrong with that at all, I would go with one that is generally untrusting but also tolerant. As kinder ones would be more unlikely with all the hate towards them.
  • You don't really choose one type, but you could choose to only learn one area of spell. There won't really be a specific type of mage anymore but different spells you could learn. And I don't know anything about the spells other than what categories there will be so I can't really suggest anything yet.
Also you should make sure you are relatively experienced/good at roleplay. The people who play Mages should generally be experienced and have a good understanding of the lore. Good luck!

you can play characters that have magic 'til the new lore's released, so go for it, just be prepared for not being able to play a character with magic in the future w/o a character app n stuff!

dwarves aren't necessarily really fat (though without regular exercise, they either get very frail or fat, yeah) + expert forms usually only take 40-50 years to learn

btw, I like the idea of a feisty, older dwarf wizard, chances are he'd know stone magic, right?

Not necessarily no, but I think the wiki explains this better than me. Just keep reading and you'll find something about it eventually. https://wiki.massivecraft.com/Dwarf#Physical_Characteristics

Also I thought this post might be helpful if anyone wants to know more. https://forums.massivecraft.com/threads/complete-wipe-and-rework-of-magic.55135/

I would say the best option is to wait until the magic rewrite is released. That way you A) Know that you can use your concept B) May come up with an entirely new one you hadn't considered. Ultimately though your idea is something that would be nice to see, but my recommendation for you is to wait for the new lore before settling on a concept that may not work or you may feel needs to changed in areas. Nice thoughts though.
