Their parents, their homeland, whatever legacy they were intended to carry on was shrouded in layers of mystery. More likely than not there was none, but that didn’t stop the girl in her youth from dreaming. What they did know was this, and this alone: a voyaging ship docks on the island of Arvost, hoping to replenish supplies and find a brief reprieve from the merciless sea. It was a war of attrition, and they were losing. Understocked and unprepared, the sailors’ several month journey was sprinkled with tribulation -- one such trial being the birth of two children. There was absolutely no way they would survive at sea, and sustaining the infants for any longer than the few days the boatmen only barely managed wasn’t a possibility. So, for as much the crew’s sake as the childrens’ own, they were left in the care of a downtrodden family in a derelict mining village. From the get-go life was populated with strife. Food and coin were commodities in and of themselves, and surviving the months came secondary to the weeks and even days. Scavenging and stealing were necessary at points, and sometimes even easier: abandoning one’s empathy for his common man and placing his own survival above all else. This bought them time, time which they desperately needed.Their big break came many years later, well into their adulthood. A passing vessel’s maddened crew told delirious tales of a vile god of the great expanse, one who would confer any blessing if only the faithful offered its worth in coin. The promise of ‘more’ was beyond enticing, and so, despite their trepidations and fears of the unknown, the two girls ventured off with the motley band in search of greener pastures. They too would eventually become fanatical, those years spent roaming convincing them of their foul deity’s splendor and the promise of a future that came with piety.Their travels eventually lead them to Regalia, perhaps the greatest plunder of all, in search of proper fortune to be offered up in reverence. They would purchase a life of luxury and wonder, regardless of the cost.
