So those involved with me have noticed my sudden and nearly complete disappearance from the forums and server- well I am here to clear up the mystery.

In short, I lost my computer.
Completely and totally...

Now understanding how significant that is you would need to know what I do for a living. I am an animator. Gamer computer are a pretty penny to pay for, Animator grade computers are ever WORSE.
It started with the core temp rising...

I did everything I could think of but the tower kept dimming and shutting off after only 40 mins or so. Naturally I do all the rudimentary things, like cleaning the dust, replacing the heat sink- simple.
But that did not seem to work.

So on my non existent budget ( due to being a student) I had to wait and collect my money to buy my last resort, a fan. It seemed one of them had suffered some damage from the heat was was sticking.
Surely THAT would fix it.
*distant cackling*

Welp after tediously going through the basic upkeep motion for a 3rd time, plus adding a NEW fan. It still kept shutting down.
The way it dimmed made me and my tech friend think it was the power box. So did all the other experts we asked around.

So it was time to get my tower a new power box and booohoooiiiiii was a power box for this pc expensive.
It took me a month to earn enough for one of the grade I needed.

Bought it, put it in ( by this time I had been gone for 2 months) it work foooooooorrrrr.... 1 day.
Like a eldritch horror this accursed affliction would not cease!!!

Once more, I had into another issue, concerning my school work, my external hardrive for my grad film was dying. Having served me well for 4 years, it was no longer compatible with most of the terminals at school.
Solution, BUY another one! But one of this kind was going to cost me. Combined with paying for services to finally go in deeper then my own knowledge could- I had to scrap together money for the next month to pay for a deep diagnostic and 2 replacement external hardrives.

SO when my baby was taken into the shop The experts discovered it was my PC's Internal Hardrive that was dying! Poor thing suffered some heat damage I missed and wasn't able to run its fan properly.

Not to worry! I had a replacement SERVER-grade Hardrive already purchased! Ready to go!

Popping that babe out of the package ( server grade for overnight rendering purposes) I handed it over proudly to the technicians and let them do their job.
(it had been 3 months and the christmas season had started)

*1 week later*

I get a call saying my NEW hardrive wasn't working. ...............

Apparently it was just faulty. It could happen to anyone. But it meant that I needed one to clone my original work to, that fit the design specs I needed. I used the LAST of the money I was granted ( by the school) to fork over 400+ for the new hardrive, whilst simultaneously sending the other one back, to be replaced. SINCE I was still in school and needed my PC back like... 3 fking months ago- I was desperate to just have this OVER with!

So with the help of their tech at their ordering terminal, I pick out a recommended replacement under these specs ( compatible with my original hardrive for cloning, server grade black for over night rendering) he gives me 3 choices and I pay a heeeeeeeeeefty sum and send out the order. 1. weeks later it arrives, and they tell me.

It wont fit in my tower. Turns out the dummy at the terminal thought I was building a actual SERVER in my house, so this thing had docking rails!!! It was MASSIVE! Considering they had my tower for 3+ months now you would think they would know what I needed by now right.

Well the seems that guy was new...

For the Christmas season and SPEAKING of the christmas season, that meant my personal budget was spend and now all money I made for the next month was going to gifts for other people.
But hey! it was just a simple misunderstanding, I can just order the CORRECT one again and use the store credit I now had to cover it! Yeup!

So whilst I waited for the RIGHT one to come in, I was christmas shopping.
For a computer of all things.. for my mom that is. This poor lovely woman had been using a obsolete windows XP which had long since lost service, and needed something to continue her tutoring with students.
My brother and I decided her days of seeing a blue screen of death every single day were OVER!
So with the bit of money we collected for this month, together, with Dad, my sister and a friend, we bought her a brand new laptop!

You should have seen her face- sweet woman was crying, she was so shocked. We may not be the most well off but when we put our heads together we can make christmas special.
Meanwhile I sent out my faulty replacement drive and was told it would arrive in another week!
The day comes around my new hardrive arrives, and with the extra cash I STILL had in credit, I paid for the cloning process and installation.

Christmas comes and goes, and I get another phone call.

It still... was not working.

Not only did my Hardrive suffer, my video card which was going on 4+ years of heavy work was finally dying as well.
The second most expensive element to my unit. The bare minimum I needed would cost me 480$ which was money I just spent on my mother laptop...
OH, and we were told we were going to have to find a new place to live because we were getting kicked out.
( The family that owns our house was giving it to another branch of theirs... so we got our 2 months notice.)

As we speak.. we are still looking.

I received my graduation certificate and whilst the ceremony is in the spring I no longer had access to their laboratory. My ability to continue working on my grad film was officially cut off.
So here is the latest update. Due to my credentials I am now teaching and from that I am slowly...SLOWLY getting the money for my video card. I am now 220$ short. Almost there!

At least my mother was so kind enough to let me user her NEW laptop, so I could log into these forums and let you know my story.

Looking forward to this finally being over. I just got another student so I see myself paying off the bill in the next month. But it STILL might be a while before I am up and running since I will be freaking MOVING as well!

I gotta tell you its been torture. Not just because I was cut off, but I lost my window to finish my grad project. I still passed with my grades alone ( work haaaard for the grant money) but I am the only one of my class to finish with nothing to show in the graduation ceremony.

SO my beloved Massive craft you WILL be seeing me again, this is not a farewell post but a, see you soon I hope!
Sorry for lame formatting My moms laptop is formatted for french and I have no idea how to change it back.
This is not for sympathy, just understanding I did not drop off the face of the earth for no reason. I hope this series of unfortunate event gave you a chuckle or two. Sometimes you just get slapped in the face with the WORST luck. Am I right.

Sounds like you had

I once heard a story about how a person's computer burst into flames while they were using it sooooo. At least you didn't get that aha.

You should set up a gofundme. I'd totally donate if I could.
While thats a thing thats out there, Id rather not. Like I said, I shared my story for info and slight entertainment purposes. I know eventually Ill get the money, it just takes time. I would rather start such a thing over a personal project, something I can give back to people with. If the worst were to happen *knocks on wood* and say we dont find a house to live in another month, THEN Ill consider asking for help. For now this is a controllable obstacle I am sure tons of people have dealt with in their lives. The only thing that worries me is how much I lost since I was gone. No doubt Ill be starting form scratch. My rent was paid up to the new year so I KNOW I lost my home, all my precious lore items, all that hard work just gone. once I am back I will need to work myself back into the narrative, catch up with events, find some place to belong all over again. At the very least two mains are still approved, so I wont be starting from 0, maybe just 1.0, but that is STILL something. I worked to get all those things before, and I am sure I can do it again.

Class A unfortunate event that is. I could sympathize with your misery somewhat with my pc going haywire on the last night of my high school project but thats a story for another time.

Take your time lol, I always thought you were busy with school but damn, how bad did your luck have to be to have several components sequentially failing after one another? I'm starting to feel lucky I could fix my little pc's heat problem simply by pointing my fan at its exposed mainboard.

Anyway, come back when you're ready! We still havn't forgotten you and we cheer you to get through those events soon!

I like your optimism and confidence. Keep at it! It's always a good thing to have. I'm sure you'll get through it and if you ever really need help we're always here.

i adore you and im so so so sorry that you went through that dffffjfjhff best of luck i love u <3

but like goddamn 10/10 respect to that persistence yo

i do not know you but I am very glad to see that you're dunking all these tribulations like a pro

No idea who you are but that totally sucks man
My mom once had a bad computer problem too
Transformer outside got hit by lightning and the electricity traveled back into her computer and it got fried, we had to replace it completely

Replace the motherboard. If I had to guess, the VRM modules are damaged, giving too much power to all of the components connected to the motherboard. That would explain everything but the HDD issues, and that likely was coincidental.

in fact, im almost positive its something to do with the motherboard power delivery system. the VRMs can die if they get too hot, and if this i a prebuilt computer, the probably are too hot. You cannot replace VRMs invidually (well you can, but is super hard). Just replace the motherboard, and if that fails, make a forum convo with me and i will do all i can to help

Hope this helps
