The high pitched whimpers persisted, coming from behind the bar's chipped wooden counter. Henry's frozen heart immediately felt a churning from the guilt… He gave Frank a quick, disbelieving glance before carefully making his way to the source of the crying… There was no doubt about it, a small toddler was cradled in a pile of blankets underneath the counter, fussing about for its mother. The Kathar stared at her, his hands trembling. He lost grip of his sword, throwing it to the side, before falling to his knees.
He couldn't believe it… This made everything so much worse. Why did they have to have a kid? Why would they birth a child in such a terrible situation? They knew they'd be hunted… And now Henry just made an orphan. His breathing grew unsteady. His heart began racing. He couldn't get his thoughts together. He hadn't felt this way since…
"Autumn…" He muttered to himself, already feeling the tears begin to build.
"Hopeless…"
It wasn't what Henry had intended to do. He did it in a moments notice… He thought he could get away from his past life as a soldier for the Dread Empire, away from a life of heartless slaughter, he swore to her that he would never kill again, it was why he changed his name in the first place… But, he couldn't. They killed his lover, they stabbed Autumn! He couldn't hold back his rage as he saw her bleeding out on the cold, stone road. He killed the entire squad of Kathars, it was the last thing Autumn had seen him do. She saw the real him… And she knew, from that point on, he was always going to be a hopeless killer.
Frank slowly walked up to see the situation for himself. With a long, grim sigh, he put his hand over his partner's shoulder to comfort him. "Look," He said, staring at the blue eyed baby, who's whining had stopped. "You didn't know. Let's just… Leave her here and wait for Marcus to get back. He was probably out getting food or some sh-"
"No," Henry muttered, before gently taking the child into his arms. His tears had already dried. "We're taking her back to camp."
"What? Fucks sake- Henry, Henry, we can't just come back to camp with a damn baby!"
"I don't care. We're not leaving her here either. Let's go, we're telling them that we killed Marcus and Elizabeth and we're going to raise their kid."
"No, no, not we, if you wanna do this, go right ahead, but I ain't taking care of some kid. Hell no!"
"Whatever, I don't care. Let's go…"
They both looked to the broken door that had been kicked down, then to Elizabeth's bloodied corpse… Covering the baby's eyes, the duo left, heading back home.
