First of all, I'm unsure where to post this so Imboring56 if this is in the wrong section, feel free to move it ^^
If you are a skinner like me (my work), you'll understand that making skins isn't exactly an easy task. Not only does it take time, skill and patience, it also has a rather large limit on what you can and cannot do with a skin. For instance, Thomas Kade as a character has a tattoo on his right forearm. I cannot make a skin which has a tattoo on the right forearm due to the way the Minecraft skins work. I can easily say that I've gotten so fed up with so many skins that I scrapped and never returned to.
With the latest update, Mojang has added a lot more personalisation into the skin creation, allowing for the left and right limbs to be edited on their own. Every part of the body can now be edited, allowing for a range of unique and new skins which I'm sure all the skinners out there will enjoy.
Although it will be more work to put it, a better and more unique result will be produced! But, that's not all. Not only is Mojang allowing you to customise each limb, it's also giving you the ability to create armour. The new update will allow you to create an extra layer on the top of your skin, much alike the old HEAD2 feature which allowed you to make hats, or funky hairstyles.
For those who are interested in what the new layout looks like or for those who wish to get started on new skins immediately, here is the new template:
The armour parts mentioned above are marked with a '2'. They can also be transparent so you do not need to skin them.
RL ~ Right Leg
LL ~ Left Leg
RA ~ Right Arm
LA ~ Left Arm
This is also the actual size you will need to upload it it, so if you were to edit and then upload this skin, it will work after the 22nd January. Note: Your old skins will work as they did before, and uploading skins of the old size will also still work.
Feel free to discuss the new skin update and what you plan to do with your skin ;D I'd love to hear what people are planning.

Finally, Mojang will be migrating their skin databases on the 20th of January. Here is the notice if you haven't already seen it.Between Monday, January 20, 07:00 CET (Stockholm time) and Wednesday, January 22, 07:00 CET (also Stockholm time), we'll be migrating our skin and cape databases. During these days, uploading skins and changing/redeeming capes will not be possible. Sorry for any inconvenience!
This only affects the PC version of Minecraft, and you will still be able to see the skin and/or cape you had before the migration started.
The reason we are doing this is to make it easier for us to add more personalization on your Minecraft characters. We'll see what the future brings!
Feel free to discuss the new skin update and what you plan to do with your skin ;D I'd love to hear what people are planning.
