Well minecraft 1.8 can be anywhere around the corner or far in the future , but eventually it will come.
So lets face it , the 1.8 enchanting system will of course affect the economy , be it good or bad , causing increase in prices of god armor , weapons , tools , enchanted books or maybe plumage of the worth of these stuffs.

If you are still not sure on how the enchanting system works in 1.8 , i suggest you watch this quick tutorial->

As you see , enchanting now requires a specific amount of EXP , but only uses 1 , 2 or 3 levels of that EXP you have , and 1 , 2 or 3 lapiz . Item combining now cost the same , name changing costs wayyyy lesser . And according to the Wiki , it says " Levelling takes longer " , and " Level 5 Enchantments can now appear on an item without the use of an anvil"

As you can see , the most major changes with the enchanting system is the amount of exp required , levelling takes longer , you can get level 5 enchantments naturally , and you can predict the enchant on your item from enchanting table

Here is the full changes made in Enchanting system from the wiki:
  • Enchanting will now cost 1 to 3 levels, but you still need the same minimum total levels
    • For example, an enchantment may only become available for enchanting after reaching 13 levels of experience, but will only cost 2 XP levels and 2 of lapis lazuli
  • Additionally, there is now a material cost - enchanting also costs 1 to 3 pieces of lapis lazuli now (seen above)
  • The actual enchantment calculation is the same
  • One of the enchantments will be displayed in the tooltip
  • The enchantments you would get on a tool will not change until you enchant something - this enchantment seed is stored per player
  • Leveling up now takes longer
  • Level V enchantments can now appear on an item without the use of an anvil
  • Looting now gives an extra 1% chance of getting rare loot per level
So basically this thread was made for you to comment your thoughts on how the 1.8 enchanting system will affect the economy :)

The economy will be so screwed up by this, perhaps if massive were to replace the lapis with some other type of item (such as an enderpearl or lapis blocks instead).

but they said that levelling will be harder, im not really sure how this works , but there seems to be more pros than cons with the new enchanting system , such as u can get level 5 enchants naturally so yea probably the economy will be screwed

What does "level 5 enchantments naturally" Mean?

means you can get for example - sharp 5 swords from enchanting , without the use of combining 2 sharp 4 swords using anvil. u can get level 5 enchants just from enchanting , efficiency 5 , sharp 5 , power 5

Edit: In fact i sold all my god armor and weapons already got 5k regals , used the cash to start a fac and paid someone 2k to build a giant medival house. im not planning on keeping the god armor and weapons , i believe the prices of the items sure will plummet because even though earning levels now is harder , enchanting has now become so much cheaper in 1.8 , plus u can predict the enchantment and get level 5 enchants naturally , obviously prices for enchanted items will plummet , so im going to take measures and plan my next step to combat the economy

Wont that take all the old god armour out of the economy and force new god armor, forcing the economy to deflate?

From my "research" , i have concluded that in minecraft 1.7 , it requires a total of 825 exp to level to 30. and in 1.8 , it requires a total of 1395 exp to level to 30 , 1.7 times more in 1.8 as compared to in 1.7.

I strongly believe the economy will drop for enchanted items because 1.7 times the difficulty to get exp in 1.8 as compared to 1.7 isnt a big difference , and now enchanting has so much new pros

If the difficulty goes up items that are enchanted gets rarer, causing prices to rise, causing the economy to actually work

but the difficulty goes up by only 1.7x times , and u can predict the enchantment , u can get level 5 enchantment , enchantment only uses 3 level out of the 30 that u have , its so much cheaper , i think economy will drop
