In addition to being systematic, smart, and meticulous in his job, Malcolm is often a quiet person outside of his work. Growing up, though, wasn't all great. Being on that end of the criminal mind's spectrum provided him with the knowledge that piqued his attention, and that information has helped him become a great detective. His clothes are always neat and clean, with a polished appearance. Despite his age, he still maintains a youthful energy and alertness in his posture and movements. His facial features are sharp and defined, with a long nose and green eyes. His silver hair has taken any remaining brown strands. He has a well-groomed appearance, with his hair neatly combed back from his forehead and a clean-shaven face. Despite his age, Malcolm's face still holds a certain ruggedness and toughness, as if he has faced many challenges in his life. His skin is weathered and pale, with a few wrinkles around his eyes and mouth. He presents himself as a well-dressed and distinguished gentleman, with a sharp and intelligent gaze. Life Story Malcolm was the illegitimate son of a Violet Order Guardsman named Stephen Cobb, raised by his mother Monica Lowe in the slums of the great City of Regalia. His father was largely absent from his life, leaving Monica to support Malcolm and herself through unsavoury means. As a result, Malcolm grew up idolizing his father and the work he did on the other side of the slums. Malcolm Lowe was never one to fit in with the crowd. As a child, he was often aloof and distant, preferring to spend his time lost in thought rather than interacting with others. But while he may have seemed detached, Malcolm was actually incredibly perceptive, with a knack for solving puzzles and mysteries. Growing up, Malcolm's unusual talents and interests often made him an outcast. But rather than be discouraged by this, he embraced his unique perspective and used it to his advantage. He became fascinated by the criminal mind and spent countless hours studying and learning about it. This knowledge would eventually prove invaluable in his career as a detective, allowing him to understand and anticipate the actions of even the most cunning criminals. As a child, Malcolm struggled with social skills and was often bullied. He turned to petty crime as a teenager in order to survive in his environment. However, a chance encounter with the Violet Order Guardsmen marching through the slums changed his worldview and ambitions. Once he was old enough, he applied to join the City Watch, undergoing law and combat training before starting on a small beat route. His talent proved to be particularly useful when it came to his eventual career as a City Guard. Malcolm was incredibly systematic and meticulous in his work, always approaching cases with a clear and logical mind. He had a particular talent for piecing together seemingly disparate clues and was able to spot connections that others missed. Malcolm proved to be a dedicated and capable guardsman, rising through the ranks and serving for over 20 years. For the last 8 years of his career, he worked as an investigator, using his skills to solve a wide range of crimes. He was not alone in his work, partnering with a man named Vald who shared his determination to get the job done no matter the cost. Despite his talent for solving crimes, Malcolm was a rather quiet and reserved person outside of his work. He was not one to seek attention or recognition and preferred to keep to himself. This quiet demeanour belied a deep intelligence and analytical mind. However, their partnership came to a tragic end when Vald was killed on a bad tip from an unreliable informant during a case they were working on. The guilt and grief drove Malcolm into a deep depression and reliance on alcohol. He quit the Violet Order and isolated himself from the world, only leaving his apartment for alcohol and garettes. After several months of despair, Malcolm had a moment of clarity and realized that he owed it to his fallen partner to find and break the news to Vald's estranged son, Willem. He spent a year tracking down Willem, relapsing into alcohol and despair several times but ultimately succeeding in finding him. He brought Willem out of hermithood and back into the world, eventually taking him to Regalia to teach him what he and his father knew best. Spoiler: Recent Time Malcolm spent a short tenure with the State Metropolitan upon his resurfacing to the City, showing his apprentice Willem what he knew about law enforcement. Willem took his father’s position as a partner to Malcolm. Though, as the state government positions were being filled Malcolm decided to use his know-how and skills for the State instead of local law enforcement, becoming the Minister of Information. During his time as the Minister of Information, he stopped many anti-state plots, kept tabs on criminal behaviour and even took a bullet for his State from an assassination plot by a revolutionist. Malcolm was as loyal as they come, but his thirst for information and control blinded him in his mission as he’d start his own personal campaign to re-form the State Metropolitan into his own police force, with the intention of combining the law enforcement purpose of the Metropolitan and the Intelligence wing of the MOI into one agency. Unfortunately, things didn’t pan out his way, in fact, the recent Metropolitan reforms completely foiled his ambitious pipe dream, leading Malcolm to be disinterested in his position as Minister, leaving behind his agency in the hands of the Chancellory. Malcolm decided to take a retreat to Calemberg, where he would hermit himself in thought and prayer, finding himself asking for guidance from Nicholas, God of Stewardship. He came back to the City months later with a new mission in mind, a holy one. He gathered those still loyal to him and started to cash in old favours to start this mysterious mission of his.
