Information ✘ [r e q u i r e d] ]| {ch. 5} With his born-inclination to the Void, Maelstrom is not one lacking for any 'unusual' features on his form, ranging from ashen, soot-stained fingers, to the golden surges of color that tend to surge over his cheeks. Most of the his visible mutations are not permanent however, only occasionally warping his appearance. Standing at approximately 6'4" in height, Maelstrom is a tall-figured, crimson-skinned individual of curly, short-cut raven black hair, and striking gold and red eyes. His features fall on the stronger, sharper side, with a more visibly active build. Spoiler: [ visual . info - optional ] Head Details . » With features stronger than they themselves, Mae possesses a very distinct appearance. Aside from being a similar hue as the same fire they carry within, they carry a rather androgynous look. Their nose is sharp, and straight, the same being said for their jawline, however not so much for the Silven themselves. Their eyes are alight with a bright golden hue, a red limbus curling around it's corners, and here and then, spreading across their sclera as another trait left to them by their curious heritage. Their skin is marked by a small handful of scars, and a speckling of freckles across the bridge of their nose and cheeks, not as prominent now as it was previously in their youth. Most notably framing their face is the raven mass of messily curled locks, closely cut to the back of their neck and regularly trimmed, never allowing it to grow past such a state, their brows of the same deep shade defined and expressive. Body Details . » Whilst Mae was born with greyed skin, characteristic for any typical halfling of their kind- they've come to shed it in favor of a bright auburn red complexion, at the hands of the same individual who caused their strange appearance in the first place. The Silven's form has suffered a decent amount of wear and tear over the years, as while fire has not once laid harm to their skin, knives and swords certainly have. With a multitude of scars covering them, from the thin string-like scar wrapping their throat due to an unfortunate mishap with an Arken, to the numerous warped wounds from impalement at the sides of their core. Scars and rips of their skin aren't the only marks they adorn, however- bearing some more organized engravings of the flesh. At their right shoulder is a mass of curling blue and red roses, somewhat faded with time. On their back, a wolven, burning head, and wrapping around their thigh, a serpentine shape. Both wrists bear marks from past identifiers from the Guards, their left and right wrists both carrying a dated branding from November 29th, 305, a simple "S" directly beneath. On the right wrist however, it differs, the next date of July 3rd, 306, being a cleaner tattoo, in memoriam of the day Sophie Perrot 'died.' 「 tattoos 」 - ‹ { x } › - Adornments . » If there's one thing that's been consistent, it's Mae's questionable fashion sense. They prefer practical attire over anything aesthetically pleasing, not often seen without some variety of pockets. If there's any specific garment they prefer above others, it's proper coat, having strode around the city in the same one for a good two years or so in the past. Even if it grows rather ill smelling or worn and torn, they'll still slip into it all the same, simply a fan of the fit and motion it provides, despite the comments they may receive for donning it. As for regular attire, they do have a.. lacking variety in their choices, frequently sporting a loose fitting shirt, a belt at their waist, and some bright-in-hue sash. Lining their fingers are a plentiful amount of rings, some a more ruddy gold and copper, some silver in better condition, the same applying to the earrings they wear, typically not too intricate in design. At their hip rests a rounded, bruised gold lantern, an object they both hold close to their heart and person, rarely ever spotted without it. Being a gift by their dear Mentor Saud in his passing, left to them in his will- they protect it with great value owed to it's existence. Spoiler: [ personality . expansion - optional [outdated] ] How would your character express Happiness and Contentedness? While Mae often overplays their emotions for the purpose of portraying such a vibrant personality, in moments of genuine joy- more often than not, it's genuine. It isn't hard for Mae to feel overwhelmed with joy, in fact- it's extremely easy once you know the right things that appeal to them. They grow affectionate, almost beaming, more social able in general when experiencing such rushes of enthusiasm. The Silven's smile will grow wide, they'll be more physical with the people they're close to, whether it be the simple act of resting their arm over a friend's shoulder, or patting them on the back. How would your character respond to experiencing Fear? Despite having so many run-ins with it during their life, Mae still isn't .. great at coping with sincere moments of fear. During more minor moments, it'll be limited to a disturbed fidget, either they'll curl up their fingers and dig into their palms with the tips of their nails, or they'll scratch at the surface of their pants. In general they just grow more tense, more cautious with their words, treating most genuine threats as if their life is, in fact- in danger. There is another way the Silven expresses fear, however- but it's a more.. rare occasion. When approached with a personal fear of theirs, or perhaps something that just chills them to their core, they tend to lose track of their proper thought process, typically acting out in impulsive fits of violence, more in a demonstration of self defense and ridding what's causing such a plague on their mind at the soonest occurrence. How would your character respond to experiencing Stress? Not well, at all. When it comes to stress, they do try to bottle it all up, but in reality it's less like a bottle, and more like a.. loosely lidded pot. Initially they'll shove all of the stress back down into their core, trying to merely ignore it as if everything's perfectly fine. However as it piles on more, and more, that's where the fidgeting comes in, the teeth grinding, the sharp and snappy responses to anything that slightly reminds them of said stressful occurrence. While it takes a while for them to snap, they.. will, inevitably- usually letting it all out in one swift go before settling down at last. How does your character view Law and Authorities? A necessity, but an unfortunate one. While it keeps problems off of their hands, it's also unfairly affected them time after time. Whether it be due to a false accusation, purely propelled by their sour reputation by the public and a few misleading deceptions, or a minor truth, Mae's had a .. good many run-ins. Despite this however, they have worked with the law, time after time. And Mae would, again, as it's much more convenient when the law force will cooperate with them, lacking all of the unnecessary judgement. This is rare however, and as much as it's been suggested, they don't have any intention to partake in the law force themselves, viewing it as a chain that'd be binding them to a responsibility they don't believe is their own to handle. How does your character feel about Races other than their own? Mae's never really been overwhelming judgmental about other races. After all, they never had anything that would spur them to. Being mixed themselves, and left between the Sihai and the Kathar, two.. very opposing communities, neither was an overwhelming influence on them or their decisions. While with more recent occurrences Mae bears a semblance of pity for the Kathar, purely due to the knowledge they're all doomed to a self-inflicted fate of their race's sinking ship, they don't have any distaste for many races. Sure, they absolutely feel themselves above the rest, which is purely natural for a Manathar, the only 'race' they're closest to actually despising would be the Url, due to the forceful and rather horrifying (in Mae's personal perspective) source of their existence. The concept of taking on such a transformation and losing grasp of your original face or appearance forever is an idea the Silven absolutely loathes. How does your character feel about Religion for themselves, and other faiths? Before recent developments, they never really had any religious alignment. And technically, they still don't given the truthful nature of the Xenophane, but it still fills the role of one nonetheless. Having been exposed to so many truths of reality since a young age, Mae found it hard to actually believe in anything they hadn't seen. And that still stands, as Mae upholds the belief they'd never loyally hold faith in something beyond their own perception, even if they hadn't taken the path they had. It's something they struggle to understand, and simply don't.. get the point of. Instead, as per their lifestyle, they purely place their beliefs in themselves and their own potential, this being the same belief and perspective they've upheld for years of their life. How does your character feel about the Arcane and Magical in the world? Magic is quite literally the core of Mae's existence. Or at the very least, the arcane forces are. As someone raised primarily by Kathar in their youth, and infused with the void itself by birth, it has never not been present in their life, except for the two times it briefly was snipped. Magic is something Mae physically could not imagine living without. And while they have, it's never been ideal, as during the phases of their life where they either had been stripped away of their heritage or their prowess, there was something that simply ached within them. It never felt right, it never felt as though they were whole, as the very concept of being mundane is something .. foreign to them. It isn't the identity they were intended to have, nor one they'd ever even consider uptaking. In fact, it is for this reason, that given the delicate state of magic's pull on the world- they've previously expressed that should they have to cull others for their own arcane survival, they'd inevitably make that choice to prosper. How does your character feel towards their family? Family is a strange spot for Mae, and it has never stopped being one. With a curious father figure who despite his motivational interactions with Mae, and the intentions he seemed to hold of purely wishing for them to succeed in life, this care is still in a strange spot, given why he wished for them to thrive. Their mother wasn't much better, either, as whilst they didn't hold any genuine hate for Mae, they just.. weren't very present, always neglectful and poor overall as a proper parent. For this, the only strong connection the Silven had during their youth was to their twin brother, Shiori. Their double, their stitched sibling, someone who growing up, they believed would never leave or betray them, til the day they both died. This isn't exactly how things went from that point, however. At one point, the flaws of their family came to light. They realized their father's intentions, how he practically was raising them to be a living weapon, how his destructive intentions and manipulations of his child propelled their magic to be of such a harmful nature in the first place. How their brother, once they finally grew of age- had almost ignored them entirely, their relationship ending on a rather sour note as they ended up estranged. And then, as if earnest retribution for the heartache they had suffered, a new family was also found in that same light. A genuine father, despite having already been passed past this discovery, a half-brother who truly cared, and a .. complicated in relation dad-nephew-half brother. Their family as of current is incredibly messy, but to Mae, it's better than what they ever had received when they were young. And they cherish it, extremely, sincerely so. What is your character the most proud of about themselves? In truth for Mae, they hold a bit of pride in quite literally everything they do. They have always been a confident person since birth, as one might expect given everything. And with this taken in consideration, there's not much they're necessarily insecure about. Most of all, however- they're especially arrogant regarding their arcane prowess. Proud to the point where if someone were to step up and challenge their said 'authority' in regards to that class of casting, they wouldn't hesitate when it comes to taking up the offer of combat. Mae holds a very-- "I am the only me, and I will always be the only one capable of these things." kind of mindset. Their general existence is something they're proud of, the very concept of them being the only Mae to exist is something that they're genuinely proud of. In general, their identity is something they cherish, and would probably collapse if they were ever to somehow lose grasp of. What motivates your character to move forward and better their life? Mae's never had many long term goals throughout their life. If you asked them, it'd mostly likely be chalked down to simple things such as "Immortality" and "Success." And while these are still their main goals, given their end desire is to be un-trumped when it comes to what they do, everlasting and existing for years on years to see how the world progresses, new motives arrive at their doorstep by the day. Their life has always been a very vibrant and lively one, never getting much of a rest whatsoever, and for this they haven't stopped moving forward for years, always pursuing something as long as it benefits them, their goals, or the people they hold dear. What is your character's biggest insecurity? Insecurity isn't something Mae often copes with. Not on a vocal level, at the very least. As far as Mae will claim and is aware, they lack such a thing. This isn't to say Mae isn't flawed, though- as while sure, they'll deny it, the Silven is overwhelming flawed. Their confidence extends to such a point where they struggle to take criticism, where they struggle to view the things they do as wrong. Where even if there may be someone better, Mae will often not recognize that or will straight out deny another's worth. They are caught up in an idea of perfection of themselves, but their faults are rather endless. They struggle to connect to other on an empathetic level, this being something they're a bit more aware of. They can't even handle tense scenarios too well without entirely flipping out, and holding a hypocritical nature, they'll fail to grasp the own irony of their words. It isn't as though this has never been pointed out to them, but rather that after receiving so much criticism, they've built up such a shield to the concept of any of this being a negative thing, purely so they wouldn't have to endure the doubt that comes with it. What is your character's biggest fear? There are a good many things Mae fears, but there is without a doubt one thing that stands above the rest. Already holding so much worth in the concept of their identity, the idea of losing it is, well- terrifying. Very, very terrifying in fact, so much to the point where arguably anything that even has to do with Mae potentially losing their sense of self or being forced to warp their being horrifies them. Whether it be the idea of a Shapeshifter trotting about, trying to make poor of their name, depriving them of what they know and understand to be theirs, or an Orl Worm somehow embedding deep into their skin and taking away all they understand themselves to be, or even someone forcing them to become someone else, . Anything that'd even fall into that category just chills Mae down to their bone, and they'll make an active effort to avoid any of these possibilities. Secondly, they hold a rather large fear of entrapment, of any variety and sort, really. Whether it be more a metaphorical sense of entrapment, or a physical sense- as long as they believe themselves to be trapped, it sends them into a fully fledged panic. In a more minor sense they also fear thunder, however they have the best grasp on this fear. Story ✘ [r e q u i r e d] ]| {ch. 6} On June 15th, Mavokh Vazhiirn was born in the city of Arrokemaar, to a present Dressolini mother, integrated into the Kaahl Vazhiirn, and an absent father, Pride. He did not however stay in his mother's arms for long however, instead ending up in the care of another Kathar from the same Kaahl, who from that day served as the child's father figure in life. In his early years, Mavokh was mostly showed the ropes of combat, encouraged to try and harness whatever potential he held. Most of his upbringing centered more on the focus of strength and survival, rather than any sort of warmth or tenderness, however the few moments he did have of such would be his rare interactions with his birth-mother, and even his adopted aunt, at times. Despite thriving in the environment he was raised in, eventually Mavokh felt a certain itch of unrest, and with little word or explanation, he decided to uproot himself. @Yurs felt a little quirky and with the kathar update, decided it was about time I strip all "pre-existing character involvement, time fucky wucky" from mae's backstory. entirely new people involved, swapped out his half sihai heritage in prep for the oncoming update (since it'll soon be very strange+ailor can be asian coded anyways) and also adjusted his points some again. in short i took a big hammer to his backstory. needs re-review
