Little Sister

He was cold in his bed, shivering the slightest as he watched the snowflakes stick to his window just across his small room. His hands were folded across his chest and a small, pale hand reached across from her narrow bed to grab onto his fingers. The boy, nearly nine, looked to his baby sister, her little fingers trying to wrap around his but her fingertips simply brushed against the back of his hand, her arm too small to reach him. The boy clambered from his cold bed and crawled into his sister's, wrapping his arm around her small form to try and warm her.

"Kea." Her voice was as small and tired as he felt, the gentle snow making his drowsy again. He turned to look at her, a small hum of question raising from him as he couldn't bring himself to ask in such a tired state. "Kea, where is Mama?" He Laid there a moment before saying he'd find her, pushing himself out from the covers of the narrow bed and treading over to the bedroom door.

As he crossed the room though, his clothing seemed heavily and looking down he realized that the floor was becoming water - was water. The colors of the wooden boards from before swirling like washed away paint. He spun around and saw the bed his sister was on was sinking, drifting downwards. Keanu rushed forwards - or went as quickly as he could with the swampy waves tugged him backwards with every step.

"Kea!" His sister shrieked, reaching her scarred hands towards him as the water was up to her waist by now. He kicked himself forward, slipping as her face went over but her hands searched still for something. He wrapped her grown and scarred hands in his own calloused ones.

"Don't worry, I have you." He said, trying to pull her up, but she didn't rise and didn't fall - stuck in the small place despite all his efforts. "No," He said. "No, no!" He chanted, trying to pull her up as something fell down his face - he couldn't tell whether it was water splashed on him or tears escaping. His sister stared up at him, horrifying and standing out terrifyingly in the darkness of the water.

Suddenly, something pulled him backwards, her fingers slipping from his. He clawed at the air, trying to get to his little sister but she was already vanishing in the gloom. His hand hit something solid and he jerked forward as his wife let go of him.

Aethe rubbed her chin where Keanu had bashed his knuckles into her. He remained on the covers, his arms pulled to cover his face. "Kea?" Asked his wife, resting her hand on his back. He simply shook his head. "Kea, I'm here," she said.

"I know you're here, but I wasn't." He said, sounding lost and simply confusing his wife. "I left her and told her I hated her and now she's dead." He continued, leaning backwards against his wife. She suddenly understood who he meant.

"She's.." Aethe started but her husband shook his head and started to rise from the bed.

"I need.. I need something." He said, forcing himself from the room. He stumbled down the stairs and placed his forehead on the Summer-warmed wall. "Noelle.. I'm so sorry." He said to the wall, placing his folded right hand on it. The wall didn't respond and neither did his sister. She was lost in the darkness of Sin and blood.
